  • When we develop a narrative or a label for someone, everything we see from them will start to seem like proof of our preconception. As leaders, we have to take the time to find out what problems someone might have before we assume that they are the problem.

Simon is an unshakable optimist. He believes in a bright future and our ability to build it together.
Described as “a visionary thinker with a rare intellect,” Simon has devoted his professional life to help advance a vision of the world that does not yet exist; a world in which the vast majority of people wake up every single morning inspired, feel safe wherever they are and end the day fulfilled by the work that they do.
Simon is the author of multiple best-selling books including Start With Why, Leaders Eat Last, Together is Better, and The Infinite Game.

Empathy is a great quality. Challenging to practice but it is worth it. It so powerful when we choose to understand first. “Seek first to understand, then be understood”

Changing our narrative by asking the right questions...
It takes some humility in moving your Ego aside, but the upsides are fare greater.

      1) true to a point. Other people in your entourage should be able to count on you .... and vice versa.
By the way, it is the complete opposite of NEEDING each other, rather the POINT is to be able to COUNT ON EACH OTHER.
I"ll add a few more comment on the other points.

    • @daedalusdreamjournal5925
      @daedalusdreamjournal5925 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      2) True! : "No citizen should be an amateur in the art of sports. And it is shame to grow old without seeing both the beauty and hte strength of which our bodies are capable of." signed by good old Socrates :)
      3) and 4) speaks pretty much for themselves. Work in your inside before working on the outside world. thtat's how you attract worthy ppl in your life.

      10) yes!! But to be more precise, invest in good HABITS !! It"s the kind of investment that keeps paying for itself. Also, again according to old wisdom:
" We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then is not an act but an habit." ~Aristotle

In the organization I work in they take it so hard on us the sales folks. The moment you provide any feedback for improvement it’s considered an excuse. Also management brushes off any problem with “that’s something we can’t change”. It’s very discouraging but pays the bills. Sales = golden handcuffs

This reminds me of "systems thinking" but this time for humans. That is, basically trying to understand the root cause of people's behavior and attitude. Once you're able to understand what the underlying problem /cause is, it will easier to love, relate with and understand that individual without being judgemental.

This sort of reminds me of no blame culture, which apparently exists in aviation some places. I have never experienced it in my work life.
We had an equipment failure in my team. A camera was broken. The set up is a simple but effective homemade solution, but a screw had worked itself loose and a new employee had a camera falling to the ground and messed up the auto focus on the lens.
I calmed the new guy (I am team leader) and handed the camera over to the person responsible for our cameras and informed him of the problem. He fixed it, we got a new lens and continued our work.
At our next meeting he informed that a camera had been broken. We had to make sure a particular screw didn’t work itself loose. Fine enough right? That should be the end of it. Except he kept saying that it was unfortunate but “nobody’s fault” in a way that hinted at something different.
I wanted to punch him across the table. Either it was a undiscovered equipment failure or it was what I figured out later an issue that had happened before at least once, and caused the same damage, except the risk was never disclosed, so the issue persisted, and naturally sooner or later meant that another lens was dropped and broken.
This could have been handled better, and I have no idea why he was out to find a scapegoat. He is safe in his position. The new employee wasn’t. And at the end of the day it could have happened to anyone. It was something that was bound to happen sooner or later,

This follows the ethical teachings within Islam portrayed by various ancient scholars and companions
The quote and reference is as follows.
Al-Bayhaqi reported: Ja’far ibn Muhammad, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “If you hear something from your brother that you reject, make an excuse for him up to seventy excuses. If you cannot do it, then say: Perhaps he has an excuse I do not know.”
