As much as I loved SH and Crusader, that much I hated these custom maps for multiplayer. Completely destroying the castle building experience that the game was supposed to offer..
it was made to minimize the lag because the player theres is just one straight line of walls to defend as for the economy it's mostly unchanged, just the layout for farms and stone plus iron.. also there can be spectators, up to like 6 people can watch as they have unreachable keeps
@Blood Tatar That doesn't matter the unbalanced units are available for all players, so it's fair and these maps actually disable catapults, mangonels and balistas that are seen as overpowered
@@beardsntools just cause all players can do it doesnt matter. Stronghold is abyssmal in MP, which is why it never got an interesting online scene. Its not even 5% of the complexity as AoE2, and everyone just abuses the same boring shit. Shields, horse archers, etc its stupid. It is BEYOND Me why they never implemented actual unit modifiers like spearmen being useful vs horses or that kind of stuff that virtually every other strategy game has.
Bottom line, stronghold is not meant for MP. It simply doesnt have enough variety in viable tactics to make it any interesting and the skill ceiling is waaaaaaay too low.
@@Felix-tp8ch exactly. Stronghold was Always a Single Player Castle build game and Then just destroy the Computer with mass of cool units. Thats what Stronghold always has been
Multiplayer in this game is terrible, no fun castle building gameplay, only absolute sweats in the lobbys, they all just rush which is not fun at all.
Therefore I either play mp with a friend or i play singleplayer
In Vanilla, bakers despawn if they don't find the flour in their original desired stockpile slot, they targeted on walking to the stockpile. Which is really bad. Also there is a bug too where one baker can empty all flour from the stockpile without taking any to his bakery. These things are all fixed with UCP ^^

@@lordhuhnerfutter9191 bootstrap gameplay familiar to Crusader2. Finally my opponent create "Huge army of... 30 macemen" :D. And NOTHING changed when sweat boys playing. As usually HA + Shield. And catapult 100g (ONE HUNDRED) only - ahhahha. Bootstrap creator just madman without imagination about balance and gamedesign. Nothing to say.
Weird to see a master of stronghold crusader to lose. But dont give up. And thanks for upload!

Typical online match: Unlimited res maps, Population\Taxes bugs abuse, Shields, Horse Archers, Catapults. Sometimes you can see Knights, Assassins, Crossbowmen.

I don't really understand your "unlimited", I am pretty sure that in this kind of maps the opponents have the same quantity of resources (2 iron and 2 stone some grass etc), as in default ones I can say yeah, a good spam of quarries.

well yes...but in standard pop maps you can't base all your economy to 2 stones :)
Horse archer spam is the reason I only play Stronghold 1 lol
Ahh placing shields 1 by 1 was a pain, luckily UCP fixes that. But that all over the place building placements hurts my eyes xd

I think it's fun playing with one player and a crap ton of bots against you I find that fun and challenging
It is, especially with Mods that have better AI's than the classic ones
Stronghold just has so much options to share Ressources and Gold which kinda supports teamplay
Played with my Cousin and a friend against a Hackerman AI, sat there for hours since Hackerman basically insta builds a castle, doesnt need Eco, has infinite Gold and spams tons of Units .
Was building the entire Eco while my Friend build our defense and my cousin our army. That was good fun indeed!

That trick with assassins was really well played. An outstanding move by your opponent which lost you the game. I miss multiplayer.
i wish there was an official online multiplayer option for this game
its my most favorite strategy game, its not as complex and stressful as age of empires, but complex enough to have fun in the game
Hopefully they will make a definitive edition of crusader and revamp the online play
Ah, the joys of vanilla PT MP on flat "empty" maps... spam-click bread and other eco during PT, struggle to mass-construct shields, then HA+shield+catapult micro the shit out of your opponent until he resigns... I mean, there's certainly some skill involved there, but I never liked those empty maps and most units being irrelevant altogether.
So for future MP videos, I'd love seeing some bootstrap games again (i.e. cool maps, 0 start gold, 0 PT) - with or without the bootstrap rebalance on top - to see some more varied gameplay with early trash spam, rushes, strategic terrain usage, non-standard eco builds, etc.

Online shc is a different beast totally , there are top experts so strong that can crush other top experts like flies , I know..

I remember this, when online match use gameranger, 5 min rush speed 60 and no cat,no ballista, and wasting my time just build 1v1 map, 2v2 map and 3v3 map greet from Indonesia, INA_EMIRHAMZA
What was it with the stockpile and the wheat? Move it closer together? But it didn't look like he had it close, or am i blind?
The observer guy wanted me to place my stockpile closer to the farmlands (Watch the first few seconds of the video, that's him playing)
He was right though, it increases your production by a LOT
@@Jefflenious Yeah it sure does lol.That's what I always do:First place down a wheat farm,saving as much oasis space as I possibly can,and then putting a stockpile adjacent to it.With this simple trick I can feed 100 people on neutral fear factor,and 200 on maximum negative fear factor lol,and still have food left over to sell;)

I remember playing my first online match. The guy I was playing with had lots more experience playing online but he just spammed archers and towers and thats it, didnt really knew much of the mechanics. So yeah instead of fighting, I just taught him economy and how to make seige equipment and how to attack. Happy memories right there.

Let's start a thread on how to make Multiplayer better.
Here are my 2 cents:
1. There is an option to make fortifications stronger. It should always be on.
2. Limit the amount of catapults.
3. Reduce the range of horse archers and crossbow men.

I hate the delay in selecting troops for online matches. I have to wait like 3 or 4 whole seconds just to keep the selected group number toggled on ctrl + number. It might help, but setting rally points constantly at different spots for assassins can work in some situations, since they move really fast moving to rally point.
Yeah but most people don't even know that u can set rally points in this game,nor how.I myself am one of those people lol
@@Ugh718 it doesn't say how to set rally points, but to set rally points simply open the barracks or mercenary post and press number keys(1-7) for which unit you want to use and click in the map where you want them to rally to. Number 1 key will be archers for barrack or slaves for mercenary post and so on

Why are catapults banned but not shields? A ridiculous amount of defence is still OP, not just offense.
I've already seen your comments on why this map, it's a shame they can't do things like pick an imbalanced map, but more resources to the disadvantaged. Then make it a two game where the positions are swapped. Third game can be a balanced map tie breaker if there is a tie.
i think you dont know the secret of copy troops type on 1 to 0 numbers... all you need is to select any type of troops like shiel and the press ctrl+1 . and the whenever you will press 1 those shields will automatically selected. and you can save hourses one number 2 . and so on
Can you tell me how you go to online match while ucp, is it gameranger? Also, did you install the game via steam or pirated it? I want to play sith my friend (i know we have to be same version)
I'm using the steam version but I'm pretty sure they are all the same
Yeah I used gameranger with no UCP. If you wanna play with a friend you're supposed to have to exact same UCP settings on both players. Check out UCP's github page for more info on how to play online!

I think every Stronghold game sucks when you play pvp, unless you ban some units and play by rules, for example the need to build an actual castle instead of a boring wall. I love playing 2v6 with a friend against AI though. If I want to play PvP I start up Warcraft 3, Starcraft 2 or AOE 2

Why do they build apple farms? What's the point?
A few apple farms are nice before the bread production starts working! Otherwise you'd usually run out of food
@@Jefflenious yeah it makes sense if it's early game. But looking at 0:01 and 0:17 (they actually made the apple farms last), also 19:18 it seems like they wanna keep it even in late game. It's just weird to me feels like I'm missing some pro strats

will do again next Saturday, mark my words :D Happy to set you up with the bootstrap setup. We (i guess i speak for the UCP community here) have our own rebalance, since we foudn the vanilla balance became stale after a while with too many horsearchers, shields and always the spam of eco until a clashing fight.

I think its better to play online without horse, shield siege, and assasin. Or each player can ban 2 troops. I think it will be more competitive and fun🤔
