As for recommendations, leatherette covers are one of our most popular types, maybe you will like those(www.mybinding.com/binding/binding-supplies/thermal-covers/leatherette.html)? How long does it take to cool?

The machine will probably take more than 15 minutes to cool down to a touchable heat(on the heating unit inside the machine). For covers it is safe to give them at least 2 minutes so the glue is hardened.
