  • You can drain your hot tub with a standard garden hose, which can take 2 hours or longer. Or you can use a submersible pump which takes about 15 minutes.

This seems great except the sub pump hose is only 25 ft. I would have to drain directly on my lawn instead of running the longer garden hose over to a ditch. Is that ok? Oh, I see you have a video on this "Can you drain your hot tub on your lawn?"

Can a solar panels enough juice to keep the warm for 12" spa?

Hi Gilbert. Great question. Unfortunately I'm not an expert on either, but offhand, I would think no unless it was a large bank of solar panels. A swim spa draws even more power than a hot tub, and 1 panel only puts out 250 watts, and a swim spa heater uses probably closer to 6000 watts. So doing simple math that would mean you would need 24 panels. Hope that helps!

how about using the submersible pump that is attached to a garden hose?

I'm not quite sure how that would work as the hose size is different. I suppose you could get an adapter, but I'm not sure what the advantage would be.

@@HotTubOwnerHQ Actually it works well with the sub pump I bought frm Harbor Freight, the garden hose fits in it perfectly.

Do you turn off the main power to the tub before you drain it?

I've read your just turn the breaker off to the hot tub. If not on a separate breaker you should have a shut off button on the olug.itself. lastly just unplug it
