Lesson learned. With gemstones, opaque or clear, light is your friend. Love the green eyes with amethyst. Nice contrast. ❤

Hi Julie I'll be honest I like it both ways. The dark purple made them look Encapsulated! I don't know if you ever watch nail art? The product for this type of nail art is similar to resin. And this is called encapsulation. There was just a few more steps that you would have had to do over the dark purple sanding and applying a clear gel top coat to make the gemstones really pop through the color. So I really liked it that way. But I love it this way too! btw it would be totally surprised of the hundreds of ideas you can get watching nail videos. And applying what you saw into your artwork!

Julie, I just thought of a little tip that might help for future experiments. If you are going to experiment with the stone and background colours, including glitter, you could probably use one of your heart molds to see what the final result will be and use and/or waste less resin if it doesn’t turn out… but awesome save on this, he is adorable and who doesn’t love amethyst embedding in a cute octopus??? 💜💜💜 🐙🐙🐙 ☺️

I was trying to think of the name of those stones, I knew it wasn't amethyst. I have a fluorite obelisk on my dresser & it's been driving me crazy trying to remember what it was. So thank you heaps.

I actually liked how it looked with the dark background, it gave the octopus a mottled look, which looked natural to me. But, the clear looks good also.
Next time try taking it out of the mold while it’s still soft and twist the tentacles, I think that would look pretty cool.😊

This is adorable and turned out beautifully. I wouldn't stake my life on it, but I'm pretty sure your stones are Fluorite, which is one of my favorite gemstones. Fluorite can be found in almost every color but is dominantely purple and the multi color stones you have are often called Rainbow Fluorite.

I tend to learn the most from my mistakes - what not to repeat. When you were pouring the dark background I was thinking 'we may be about to learn how to remove a resin skimcoat'. If you are unsure about adding a background now maybe place the piece on various colors of paper or fabric. I think it is lovely as-is but I do wonder how it would look with green (to match the eyes), lavender, white, ocean blue, etc. That is definitely a stunning mould, the stones took it to a whole new level. Well done Julie!

Aww.. I’m glad you saved him. Great job! I put an amethyst in a deep heart mold, along with flowers, shells and other colorful stones (inspiration from Tea and art). The amethyst almost completely disappeared in just the clear resin. Those exact stones are saved in my cart. They’re really pretty. I have a fun project in mind for them but, I need to finish all the other projects I have lined up first!😂 Thanks for showing how they look in resin, now I know I need to figure out a different background.❤️
