So many great chapters in this video. Jon you were came across so relaxed doing the flight, great landing and Thank You for keeping so much content in so we got to see everything. The landing was superb for sure. The dad joke was hilarious at the end. 👍👏
I feel that the next step for GA is that the "tower", which soon won't even need to be a physical tower, will have the ability to link to the plane via the transponder so that they can set all the flight director details. Instead of being told to taxi via G, F, A1, cross rwy 17, B, hold short of active rwy 08... they'll just pop that into your setup and you'll see the arrows on your screen. The fright of it is if they accidently change the wrong aircraft's settings. The bonus of it is if a pilot is incapacitated, they'll be able to tune NAV1 to the ILS and set the AP to automatically fly the Approach. The only thing the tower will need to instruct a passenger to do is cut the mixture or otherwise turn off the engine once on the ground.
Ex SR22-G5 owner here. I love the SR Series, from the fire-wall back only. After 6 years of ownership i can say that 90% of our unscheduled and non-budgeted expenses were fire-wall forward. When pressed, the majority of Cirrus owners will admit to a similar bitter / sweet ownership experience. I will re-commit to full ownership only when Cirrus releases a FADEC Diesel ( Jet A1) power plant. Till then i will rent and let someone else deal with the existing 1960’s engine maintenance budget uncertainties.
Could not agree more! It’s 2024 and they present a new generation with an around 100 years old overthirsty leadhungry engine without FADEC? From the factory ready for next museum? They should get the CD-300 or something else that burns half the amount without lead in Jet-A and be ready for SAF…
Thanks Jon, a great piece on the evolving Cirrus. I am sure that there is a never ending list of ‘if it just had’ and they will never please all of the people all of the time. Great innovation for GA but probably well outside the everyday flyers pocket!
Great video thank you for posting, and of course what an amazing aeroplane, the panel and features are superb all adding up to a very safe aeroplane if flown by a competent pilot in appropriate conditions.

Your video was really excellent however, and anyone wanting to know more about the G6 vs the new G7, and what it's like to fly it, you need to watch this video. Awesome aircraft #cirrus and great video Jon!
Bit disappointed it wasn't more different with jet A1 or greater range which to me it sorta suggested from the promo! Aside from that great video! Always love to hear your opinion. Alex
Agree. To really get with the 'state of the art', Cirrus need to get rid of the TSIO-550, and get the Continental 300hp TDI engine in (same engine as the Diamond DA-50). Even in the G7 form, the SR22 still guzzles more than 20 g/hour in the climb, and not much better in the cruise. The DA-50 will climb at 12 g/hr, and 10 in the cruise. Huge difference.

Thank you for the detailed exhibition of the differences in the avionics etc. I was pretty disappointed by Cirrus' own launch depiction but now I see the value of the new systems. I have about 100 hours in G3 through G6 and the G7 is a big step forward
Lovely airplane I gotta say. You did a very good job explaining and going over everything. I can't watch the entire video, or else I get motion sickness, so sometimes it helps if I watch sideways. Getting on one of these is absolutely not in my future. I'll stick to RC, wich I've enjoyed for the last 24 years.
Another brilliant production 👍 and a beautiful landing. I like SR22's but I think for me I would prefer a Yolk over a side stick. Also good to see some cockups at the end. I think including some bloopers to the end of the videos would be a good thing to start adding for the added entertainment.
Loved the video. Great job! Having flown both SR series planes (not the G7) and DA series (DA40, 50 and DA62) I find myself wishing the two companies married and had a baby. A DA50/DA62 with the modern FADEC, gas sipping engine, carbon frame, and impeccable safety rating combined with that slick G7 touchscreen interior, CAPS, and the "keep the blue part up" (LVL) protection and you would have the perfect GA plane. Can't wait to fly one though.
I find nuances with different EFD. I got thrown one doing an ILS in an Avidyne-Garmin 750 equipped Saratoga. The course did not auto-slew to the final approach. Fortunately, it was a practice approach in VMC. Took me a while on the ground to figure it out.

You handled the Cirrus very well Jon given the fact that transitioning to a Glass cockpit takes time. 👏👏👏 Whilst I fly a Diamond DA62 twin, I highly recommend you try out the Diamond DA40 NG with FADEC and Jet-A1 fuel to compare the differences, including the price. 🛫🛫🛫
Its a great shame they didn't upgrade the engine. To all intents and purposes, the aircraft has identical ability as the G5. Its a lot to pay for upgraded avionics, auto-tank change and cupholders. I know Cirrus are very well aware of the engine "issue", surely they could have delayed launch of G7 until they had it sorted? Perhaps they have plans already for a G8 in another 7 or 8 years?
I've read an opinion that I think is probably correct -- they wanted a good training story to tell insurance companies for people buying the SF-50. Having a cockpit with tons of commonality, they can argue that owners with G7 time will be more ready for the step up to the jet, and will hopefully be able to get reasonable insurance in a tightening market. I think we'll see a new engine sooner rather than later.

Thanks Phil. It wasn't all that hard to fly to be honest, and the avionics seem fairly intuitive...and I'm in my 50s. Younglings will whizz through it! Thanks for watching.
Love the layout of the aircraft - but Cirrus really missed the point - Still a 150 yo engine technology - they just refuse to go Diesel/Jet-A - or at least just add a FADEC for engine control, but no - still with a mixture handle.
I hear you but the only possible option is the CD300 which will require a significant revision of the front end of the plane and significantly on W&B (I believe AVWeb did years ago a good video on why it’s so hard to go from the old engines to more modern ones) .
Really interesting video and very informative. Pity no discussion about performance speeds etc. There is no doubt this aircraft is a fantastic tourer with huge capability and ease of use when you have had the proper training and can master all the screens. It is certainly a mini airliner, not really a hands on aircraft to fly. Far better on the autopilot. I am more of a hands on pilot that as well as touring, likes the thrill of poling it around the sky in my RV6. My slight worry is that it is also an aircraft that people with high income will buy, but their flying ability and skill does not match. I hope a full training course is made mandatory on purchase. One of the reasons I say this, is because being an ex aviation insurance broker and also an underwriter at one time, I well remember the early days of of Cirrus owners. There is no doubt this aircraft is the future compared to PA28’s & 172’s that are more than 60 years old in design ! Lastly Jon, you seem to have enjoyed this more than the Spitfire- Sacrilege!!! 😂
I like hand flying too - in fact this flight was all hand flown, with the exception of a short segment when we tested the level button. Like cars, we all have our preferences. Some like a classic - I used to have a triumph which I would take out for a 'drive' - I prefer the comfort and economy of my Skoda for work and long distance trips.

Amen brother, running the 915is on my MCR4, not the perfect plane by any means but I'm enjoying the 145KTAS cruise at 25litres of sweet unleaded Autogas 👌🏽
Does Cirrus offer a 5-point seatbelt harness? Having the buckle up at the top of the abdomen is horribly uncomfortable. In the airliners we have a "crotch strap" that attaches and allows you to pull the buckle apparatus down to your belt buckle level, making it much more comfortable.
There is no doubt Cirrus made the G7 to upsell its customers to the SF50. The G7, in my opinion, falls way short of a revolutionary or even a striking upgrade. Over two years in planning and design offering only touch screen avionics, which is only a moderate upgrade and a nonevent for many pilots. I fly a TBM with a G1000 and prefer the knobs and buttons over a G3000. For those with a G5/G6 the G7 isn't worthy of consideration.
A very interesting new Avionic fit that clearly has the same menu structure at the Garmin GTN650/750 so transitioning to the G7 should be a low stress affair. It is a demonstration of how far GA avionics have come in the last twenty years, I can remember Garmin introducing the GNS430 and it was considered a game change…….. now it just looks so clunky!
@@TheFlyingReporter you are more than welcome to come and fly my Garmin GTN650 equipped Robin as see how a well integrated modern avionics retro-fit works in the real world, The aircraft is also about to be fitted with the Electroair electronic ignition system. This EIS is expected to drag the Lycoming into the modern age giving better starting , smoother running and save 1USG/Hr in fuel consumption. This might make an interesting video.
Ya es un avión exitoso y con cada mejora es mucho mejor más apetecible más amigable con el piloto una belleza el avión el sueño de cualquier dueño operador o piloto
Thank goodness we had the Spitfire when we were scrambling when somebody “rang the bell like hell” during the Second World War is all I’ll say! Also if hiring from brakes off to brakes on for an hourly flight, I think I prefer the Robin DR400 or the Slingsby Firefly!

Best G7 review on TH-cam.
I'm a fan of old-school analog instrumentation but I must say this is a beautiful system on the new G7.
the analogue "data" from the sensors is digitised early on thus precluding any hope of having a backup "dial"

It was very easy to use, and I'm not yet conversant with the latest toys...I still have a 430!
Thanks for watching.
All this tech but still no fadec is crazy
All shiny no substance where it counts
So, when is the order going in Jon ? 😆😆
Haha.
Thank goodness we had the Spitfire when we were scrambling when somebody “rang the bell like hell” during the Second World War is all I’ll say! Also if hiring from brakes off to brakes on for an hourly flight, I think I prefer the Robin DR400 or the Slingsby Firefly!
Gorgeous interior -- but damn is that a really expensive single engine piston..
For all the fancy tech -- still a piston up front 😕
It’s Garmin hardware and software. Nothing to do with anything Cirrus, although they want credit for it. This is common among several manufacturers.
Tower communications are a bit distracting and cannot hear you guys on the ground, going through preflight.
nice bird :))
Thanks for watching Ian. Who knows what's in the pipeline.
@@TheFlyingReporter ya its need the jet
A burner from the DA50 :))
Cirrus needs to get serious and add the PT6 with retractable gear as an option.
If you ask me, the new cockpit is absolute nonsense without some modern FADEC engines... but otherwise a great update.
Thanks for watching.
Like the aircraft but still no modern fadec or fuels
all this tech, and still no FADEC.
