Thanks Daniel, appreciate the support. I suppose not everyone is handy is enough to do up a ruin. But admire those that take on a project like that!

My thoughts exactly! Not another ruin transformation means they can focus on developing the land

@Thanks to the Water I agree, people do whatever is best for them or within their means at the time.
We love it when people transform a disused space in to something functional. It requires so much commitment, so nothing but admiration for those who take on that kind of project. It benefits them, the land and the local communities too.
Thanks for watching and the congratulations :) Have a great week!

And the city of Leiria is very good to get whatever you need. We loved a house in the Portalegre area, but thought it was a little to remote. If the sale goes without a hitch between Fundão and Castelo Branco. We have made several reconnaissance trips, have NIF and bank in Fundão and made an offer 😊 Our house in the UK is in the late stages of selling 🤞 Challenge is paying a deposit before the sale completes 😂 One thing you might have experience on is we can either apply for the D7 immediately, with a UK property, but no free funds, or we can wait and apply once sale completes, ie with funds but no permanent UK address. Lawyers have not been helpful so far 😱

Good that you asked about water, i am currently putting together a video on that - about our water situation and what we plan to do in the future to capture, save and preserve water! Great question.

Dursley, not too far from where i lived in bristol (about 30mins)
A ruin you can pick up very cheap, depends on the potential - including the land status etc. If you want a ready to move in home, there is a premium but if you're willing to do a bit of work, you can pick up run down properties for pretty cheap.

They're not meant to be fixed and lived in by families hence the land is cheaper as compared to a house in a village with little garden. Portuguese govt is usually slow to react but when they do. All these so called expats will be selling those "farms" for 10% of what they've paid. Cheap doesn't always mean good.

Currently there are lots of vancancies and shortages of staff in some sectors, as you are portuguese you have the right to live & work in Portugal without the need for visas.
Make a list of what qualifications / skills / experience / interets / you have and then try to look for work in those areas. You may be able to get free training in some areas paid by EU social funds, and you may be able to qualify for zero tax for a couple of years (I think) because the portuguese government has a progamme to attract portuguese citizens back to the country by offering a TAX HOLIDAY. Check online with portuguese consulate..
Some qualifications attract good salaries, others not so good, but life in Portugal is not just about making money, it's also about quality of life, slowing down, outdoor life, having more time for oneself & family & friends, being able to own a nice home (still possible & afordable outside big cities).
