Clare Torry performed and sang this song on Sunday 21 January 1973. She made history. Pure emotion
Unfortunately, she was no longer able to do it the same again.
I have attended many Pink Floyd concerts live, but no vocalist has ever been up to it.
For the first time, with Viviane Donner, it's like having a video recording of that incredible 1973 performance.
An infinite THANKS to VIVIAN DONNER for the emotion he gives. The musicians are also great.

I'm 58 years old seen Pink Floyd 2 times and seen a lot of videos of bands trying to capture the essence of the song, just have to say this band & lady did a wonderful job 2 thumbs up 👍👍
It's a great tribute to Clare Torry. I hate when singers begin to improvise on this piece. No matter how talented they are, whatever they do, sounds like crap, just because it's impossible to rearrange this masterpiece. This girl paid respect and learned the original aria, with some altered notes here and there. Well, close enough, and she put some heart into her version too. It's the best cover so far I heard.

I had the privilege of listening to the original with a nice-smelling girl in my arms 😍, surrounded by peaceful people. Yeep - guess my years 😁.
In this case, however, Viviane Donner respects the original, is mostly perfect on the original and thereby proves her ability many times more than all those who "want to make it better".
Viviane Donner's small deviations no longer bother you after listening several times.

Клэр Торри, первая певица, в одиночку навыла звуки.
А Ричард райд, пианист и композитор из группы Пинк Флойд, из этих звуков вытянул мелодию, отбросив остальные звуки.
В будущем Клэр Торри звали петь эту мелодию на концертах.
Она не справилась, точно она не смогла спеть, то что навыла.
Многие брались петь это произведение и даже втроём пели и лажали, а эта девочка в одиночку всё исполнила в ноты.
Очень молодчина.
Хотя в других видео и она бывало лажает. Ну что то не получаются иногда звуки.

What makes this song so special is that Clare Torry sung her soul out and embedded it on the original record (this is why everybody has goosebumps hearing it... ;-). Need 3 things to do this 1) has to be a young voice 2) talent(wide range) 3) the singer has to "get it" really like the song and understand what was really intended, all the stops are out and the music goes beyond music and takes flight. She achieved that, nothing will be as good as the original on dark side, but that's just the way it goes.

For me, this song evokes the deep angst of man longing to express his/her greater spiritual nature through a limited and constraining physical body - which is possibly why a performance such as this brings me to tears.

I grew up a fan a progressive rock. Bands like Genesis (w/Gabriel), Yes, King Crimson, Supertramp, and yes, Pink Floyd). These bands struggled and succeeded in breaking new ground and raising the bar of excellence in music. This song is perhaps one of the most DIFFICULT for ANY band to reproduce, and Atom Pink Floyd NAILED IT. Viviane's astounding mastery of the vocal track sent chills down my spine. It was so perfect it was like listening to the album. I had to replay the video and have bookmarked it. BRAVO!!!

I am a Floyd fanatic. They are my all-time #1 band hands down and I've heard many excellent vocalists sing this cover and this is by far the best I've ever heard. AMAZING! What a pleasure to listen to her and her talent. She just makes me smile and shake my head. All I can say is .....wooooooowwww.
Wow! Covers are what they are. Never to be expected to sound like the original. Because they are not the original band. Plain and simple. Bands playing tribute to those they admire. I myself do the same thing. But this vocal track stands right up there on its own with Clare's.. Absolutely beautiful rendition. Hats off!

The sweet little smile on her face at the end of her performance is a perfect finish to a perfect delivery of one of Pink Floyd's most cherished classics. Excellent is not a big enough word to describe her rendition, but it is the best I can do. Well done Viviane, extremely well done!

Why "almost"? It's actually perfectly done, on a technical level.
Few things make one proud to be a member of the human race these days but there is true beauty in this piece of music and this band and this lady do it justice.

This is just one of the few things that our world has been blessed with, The Great Gig in the Sky, and this was pretty damn good, and this woman is to be commended after hearing others try to make this work, but some things, such as this, should never be touched by another soul, and Clare Torry is the one that blessed this music with all she had to give.... this is Often imitated, but can never duplicated...

I've always wanted to have The Great Gig In The Sky at my funeral and I'm going to get my wife to play this version. I'm 60 so not expecting it anytime soon but I've just listened to this 10 times in a row and each time it's sent shivers down my spine. Viviane Donner, if only you were a bit older and just happened to be in the next studio when PF were recording the original, we'd still be talking about you 50 years later instead of Clare Torry.
