For those who didn't see the whole thing they actually started out with 10,000 dollars and Alpharad had to give them 5,000 more halfway through because everybody except Pchal and Drxx spent all their money in the first half. Not really necessary for this video but it's extremely funny to me.
It was interesting to see the differences in bidding tactics. Drxx and Pchal specialize in extreme difficulty hacks that require you to stretch out your resources, and both decided to take as many cheap picks as they could for $300-400 each. They also highly valued ghosts and were reluctant to go into bidding wars. In contrast, FlygonHG and Whacko can play the long game if they have to, but also have more experience with vanilla Emerald. Both decided to go all-in on the 'mons that they knew could clear the few risky fights the game has.
There was a legendary as the last pokemon that they were both saving for. It did screw them over a little bit but because they still had so much more money they were able to get some really good mons at the end.
This happens all the time though if you've ever done fantasy sport auction drafts. It's a legit strategy called studs and scrubs. You pay up for the heavy hitters and then round out your team with the discards. I feel like the metagaming around the draft could be super interesting to look into
It’s honestly CRAZY how far ahead you were before Breloom shit the bed even thought you hit all of those optional trainers. In my heart you won, Flygon, lol
It's about how many modern popular nuzlockes are often a boss rush (because of just using rare candies to get to the next level cap) and carefully calced puzzles to solve, where often for the harder roms, you have to get the "right" encounters to beat it. I don't actually think this is a bad thing because I love a good challenge and puzzle and I totally understand not wanting to grind. However I'm old and was here when people often told their nuzlocke stories in the form of comics, and nicknaming your pokemon was so you'd get attached to them. A lot of times, nuzlockes were good for making you use and grow fond of pokemon you would have never used. I miss the narrative aspect of it. These videos always craft a narrative and pay attention to pokemon's gender and names and give them personality. It's just a nice nod to the origins of nuzlockes imo.
Matti and Jacob's friendship has really went up since matti congratulated Jacob on his reward in pokemon awards and Jacob said "............a-a thank you. ......."
Ngl, I love watching the alpharad draft race vods, and this one was probably the most exciting finish, especially considering how wacko continued to retain the “never punished” title in the elite four, while flygon was getting the worst bullet seed luck
I’ve been watching and enjoying your videos since the channel started and it’s not only been nice to see how your content has evolved over the years but also really cool seeing you collab with other creators who I love. Happy holidays and wishing you all the best in the new year!
Breloom has always been better before the Elite Four. At the Elite Four, it tends to be outmatched by the better stat pokemon. It also doesn't help that his team is all underleveled when compared to Wallace's team.
I know Daddy Stone wants Steven to come home, but the real question is why he left in the first place? Nosey being caught in the middle of this is so sad!
Congrats on 2nd place! Sorry it didn't work out, but I'm glad you had a great time with the challenge! I would not have kept my nerve for that long. I'd have started by making mistakes, and then would have started compounding them. And not even throwing for content, just flopping. :D You did well, and this is a very entertaining video!
you gave me some serious vietnam flash backs at 5:52 when bowsers inside story music came on, it’s the fight with the electric guys i remember being stuck in that fight banger song
I had been looking for the rom hack that you guys played this on for so long then your video popped up on my recommended with it in the description. THANK YOU. Deserved the sub
Really enjoyed your video even after having watched the 5+ hours Alphared Video. Also i really like your error analysis, not just blaming RNG. Great job

Hey Flygon. I watched this live and enjoyed your video! One amazing thing that I think the video highlights is how the most skilled players make mistakes under the pressures of competition - like traditional sport. It was a fun concept to watch, and you guys are all so skilled that it’s cool to introduce the time & pressure aspect to throw in another aspect of difficulty! Looking forward to the next one, great job!
yet another flawless perfectly cooked fish filet joke. i'm being serious when i say that i keep an ear out for them every time you upload a new video 😭
Female Pokemon fan taking the time to appreciate that FlygonHG calls his Pokemon 'she' when they're female. Edit: it's a rarer quality and it makes me feel seen. Chad the Lopunny was a girl, too
When first I scrolled past the title, I caught the words ”Alpharad”, ”Nuzlocke” and what I *thought* said ”DRAG race”. Really wanted to find out more. lol.
Very fun video! I wonder if this “Emerald but lite and modern” version you’re playing with is available somewhere? (Even, or especially, with a roster of available Pokemon that’s not necessarily the Emerald classic ones…)
Wallace's Tentacruel, Ludicolo and especially Milotic are insane when you are on a race. But Warlord wasn't the one I thought would cause problems (and it made Tentacruel and Milotic lot more threatening).
I expected Breloom to be slower. The reason I never use Breloom is its low Speed. A quick search came up with a fun detail: Breloom has got 10 base Speed more than Wailord (70 vs 60). With a 2 level advantage, as was shown in the video, Breloom should be faster. It must be Natures playing a role.

Doesn't that mean Pchal and Drxx had a massive disadvantage?

Breloom might need some health care
fr
I guess Flygon’s three hit bullet seed went to the ceo of UnitedHealthcare
Great comment
We all do
I understood that reference

Your dedication to paying attention to your pokemon's genders is always weirdly delightful to me
You're right, that is weird
@@as3609 it's not weird, it's delightful, as stated
I also appreciate that from Flygon's commentary.
I love seeing it too. My boy Primarina (pulls up the most adorable feminine Pokémon)

So is this why I’ve been seeing breloom on the news?
I got a little worried when he started roasting, bro is acciedentally political lol
Give Whacko an inch, he'll take a mile.
"gen 3 sturdy mechanics aside" lmao, not even a minute into the video and I'm already dead

Was awesome that you gave Sharpedo spotlight because it was severelly underrated in the draft
19 inches of Flygon is all I need.
Context my friend, context.
@zombeef3074 There is no context. These are my needs.
The low rolls on bullet seed... I felt that. 2-5 hit moves are a crime against humanity.
Breloom just got fired from every nuzlocke in hoenn

We don't bad mouth Breloom.
“Does this thing have a Speed IV of 6 or something?! … Oh, it does?”
my guy got outsped by wailord. I don't know about you but but I would definitely be in that 100 "NO FUCKIN WAY" poll
Bowser's Inside Story, Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger... FANTASTIC taste in music.
I believe the Wallace choke is some sort of karmic justice for pronouncing Lapras the way you do.
Great video and looking forward to the next auction
I was so excited for this video after Alpha’s take on it! You did a great job, Flygon.
Fun Fact: Breloom has just 10 more base speed than Wailord. It's not nearly as crazy as you'd initially think that it outsped the Breloom.
So at minimum what spd ivs would the wailord had to of had to out speed?
Champion team has 24 IVs I think
