    The guide above was updated from this one to be more detailed.
    A quick and simple tutorial on how to unlock your Yaesu FT-4X to transmit out of band for emergency purposes.
    NOTE: IF THIS DIDN'T WORK ON YOUR FT65, TRY 62406665.

    I know this is an old video...but thanks! I ordered 2 yaesu's after seeing this!
    When we go to the lake, I usually have my wife and son carrying gmrs radios, and I carry a ft-3dr AND a Btech GMRS pro. I've never been able to get the ft-3dr unlocked, even though I've sent it in TWICE. For what I need it to do, carrying 1 ft4xr with the ability to talk to the wife/kids in an emergency will be infinitely easier.
    Seems like a decent little radio that can handle most of the baofang accessories as a bonus. If I wasn't so lazy, I guess I could run my vx-7r and do the same thing, but I hate pulling it out of my plate carrier for just a day at the state park.
    Thanks so much!

    I pulled the trigger and bought one. Made in Japan and this blows the Beofeng UV-9R out of the water. Better sounding receive and was told transmit was much clearer. Well worth the money!!!!

    Hey, HR Dude, *love your vids. So, here's the question....and it's a fairly NON-REALISTIC scenario type question, I'll admit, but inquiring minds wanna know. Say you've done the transmit/unlock....opening up GMRS freqs. Also, say that the bit of wilderness you intend to hike through has zero ham repeaters near by, but happens to have a GMRS repeater. So the question is... once you've unlocked the transmit frequencies, can you also make a memory channel complete with ctcs tones for the GMRS repeater?? Thus, enabling you to call for help over a GMRS repeater when you break your leg skiing... etc. etc. [BTW, I'd love to know the answer to this same question re the FT70D, but rather than posting the question twice, I thought I'd just go for a 2-fer here. THANKS AGAIN. 73. Tim

    Another gray area question: If I bought a GMRS license, $35, then used my FT4XR on those frequencies, am I illegally using my radio but legally using the frequency? Or said another way, when you did not transmit on a GMRS frequency as a demonstration that the modification works, what law, rule, regulation are you breaking?

    • @LordGryllwotth
      @LordGryllwotth 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not American. But just keep it at same power level as GMRS. I do not know how they enforce the rules. But I would buy a radio like this, and unlock it for use. Maybe just have a spare cheap GMRS somewhere if someone asks you what you are using. But if they are really picky they can make a profile/identity of what radio you actually used.
      They see frequency and other parameters they can use to make the profile.
      I have myself seen using an SDR difference between radios on a group as example on PMR. Just looking on how the frequency drift on the first second during transmit as an example.

    I've read several posts online where people are really opposed to doing this, saying that its an illegal modification. So is it illegal to use a radio on authorized frequencies from a radio that has had this disabled? I'm not asking about then using it on unauthorized frequencies. Just the legality of using the radio at all if you've unlocked it.

    • @HAMRADIODUDE
      @HAMRADIODUDE  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey good Day, That question is a Can of Worms right now, due to the Recent FCC Notification. No one wants to give any legal advice. Regardless (I can be wrong, and certainly someone will come in here to tell me I am), Modifying the radio and transmitting on the intended frequencies, In my opinion, is not illegal. I think if the FCC was so concerned, they would not have allowed the Import of Hundreds of Thousands of illegal radios. The radio, regardless of modification is still Part 97 certified and modification has not (that I have seen) altered the performance on any frequencies it was intended for (Emissions or otherwise). For this reason, my opinion is the radio, if modified is still legal to use on the bands it was intended to be used on. Best wishes!

If an emergency ever came up, I could pop the battery off to get the code, then make the modification. I tried it, and the code works fine.
