Thanks for another really enjoyable video We had our boat in Dover for a while in summer of 2021. We entered from the East and it took us about half an hour to get from the East entrance to being tied up! It's SOOOOO BIG! 🙂
Just came across your channel, your videos are interesting, and like your philosophy on nature, and keeping focused on trying to think green From a sailor of 40 years , from Canada 🇨🇦. Oh! Not everyone who feels destitute can afford to go out and buy a sailboat, let alone afford to maintain one.
Hi, thanks for the positive words. I'm sure to many people buying a sailboat is out of reach. where we live there are many sailboats in need of love . Many of them in yards where the owner has left them. There are occasions where they can be picked up for little or no cash at all. I can only speak for our area but when you consider rent of a house is around £1000 per month plus taxes and bills then there are those of us, myself included who have chosen this path. It is really hard work but on balance is more affordable than any of the housing around our area. Thanks for watching and keep the comments coming!
@@svmoondancesailing thank you, and appreciate your reply. You have made the right choice not to wait for retirement to buy , or go sailing. I have a personal sad story that was devastating. My wife/ soulmate and I sailed for over forty years together. Her last year to retire at 58 she suffered a massive brain aneurysm while on our sailboat, on vacation anchored out off an island, and she was the perfect picture of health. Actually that morning she had her swim off the boat. 20 minutes later it was a coastguard helicopter, and boat Mayday. That included Canada & U.S. coastguard, sadly she was pronounced dead a few days later, something that I already knew. So yes "do what you like" when it is possible. We are only here for a short time, and one never knows how long. Like the Canadian band "Tropper" says "We're Here For Good Time " (not a long time) ". On boat, & owning etc. We are definitely on the same wavelength, but I think you left out a few major issues. As for boat graveyards, they are world wide, sadly to say. Most insurance companies will not insure old boats, let alone one's that have been reclaimed, and refitted by a ,"handyman". Then their is the fact that boat owners, Marina's do not want a none insured boat next to them, for good reason, let alone the class distinction. Even mooring areas will not allow boats that don't fit the standards. I can go on for hours on pros and cons. But I definitely agree if one has the love for sailing, and not just thinking its a cheaper way to live,go for it. But it is a life that most can not get used to, especially woman, for good reason, most men become dominating. Sailing, or being on the water is a life of love, not a necessaty state of mind. I have decades under my belt in every way possible in sailboats/ sailing on the water. I will watch the rest of your videos. Sailing is like music, it's all about feel of the water, and it's movement, and the boats reaction. When the orchestra leader can combine it all, It becomes harmony. Words from a musician aswell as a sailor. the hardest thing for captains to conform to. Is to understand that sailing is one of the slowest forms of transportation. We are always wanting to get to our destination faster and faster. Then for many the inferiority complex set's in lack of speed, time issues. MAY THE WIND ALWAYS BE IN YOUR SAILS.
Firstly and most importantly. My deepest sympathies for your loss. I simply don't have the words. Over 40 years of sailing together must have been really inspiring. I bet there's a book in there somewhere. It's nice to know we have music in common too. I have far too many instruments on board and I love them all dearly. There are, as you say so many pros and cons for the lifestyle and that in it's own right could make a valuable read for the prospective yacht owner. Insurance in the UK for a boat is pretty straight forward. You can get most boats insured third party with no major stress . If you need fully comprehensive insurance then a survey is required . Anyone can do their own work but it needs to meet the standard .I can only speak for insurance in this country. I had a conversation in the last few days about how we are programmed to be places on time. As a child and as an adult we are required to always be rushing from one place to the next. After over 15 years of sailing, this week was the first time I threw that conditioning out the window. Sailing is like music. There is a flow and a rhythm, constantly changing and you are at the same time held in it's grip and the conductor of the orchestra. It's not for everyone but I think everyone should try it. Fair winds to you .
@@svmoondancesailing thank you. Yes many life experiences that only the experience can tell the true story. I could probably write a book on my life's experience the size of Piece & War. I sold my boat this spring, another ordeal with deep emotions, after having it for 27 years . I guess it could be similar to ponding one's most favorite instrument, that you spent a lifetime getting to know its feel. Absolutely agree, that everyone should attempt a day sailing.and it's lifestyle. "Well it's a marvelous night for a moon dance, with the stars up above in your eyes,". Cheers

Hi guys, another great vblog. Did you experience anything negative from the many Visitors swimming to the shores ?
Not at all. All the guys that have settled here look like they fit in really well. I don't honestly think we can do enough to help these people.
