Symmons laundry valves and shower valves are quite common in the New England region. Nothing but high quality raw brass and easily rebuildable if you have access to parts at your supplier.
The brand name he’s using is Flood Stop. It’s an in-line automated shut off valve that comes with a ribbon sensor, that immediately stops flow when it comes in contact with moisture.
Most shocking part is people actually pay to have a washer "installed". I mean, 2 water hoses, a drain hose and a power cord.... next episode, we install a garden hose at the backyard spicket.
It's not that, imagine having a stackable in a 4 x 5 room you don't want to do that as a homeowner. Plus if u hire a license plumber u can sue the company if something goes wrong. If u do it yourself and mess up well now it's on you.
It's typically the building, in NYC most won't let you do anything with plumbing unless you are licensed and majorly insured. Even getting the machines delivered into these high rise buildings is a challenge. So since they know what is being delivered there is a good chance they will require you to have a plumber connect them.
Mid town apartments are $7+ million with boards that will charge and/or sue you if you leak to your downstairs neighbors due to negligence, simply because you didn't want to spend a tiny fraction of your abundant wealth to hire a licensed plumber. Now, if the hose starts to leak 5 years later, the system he installed will auto shut off.

And for those of you unfamiliar with luxury high rise plumbing.. if you make a mistake and cause flooding.many apartments are millions of dollars not including the contents.. so if you are on a higher floor and flood apartments below that are $5,10,15+ million dollars.. if those people see water damage and or mold you are toast.. have seen tiny drywall repairs on small sq footage on the ceiling or wall cost $50-75,000 .. trust me if you live in a $10,000,000 apartment and have mold.. check into a nearby hotel and call insurance and property management company.. likely their lawyer is making the call

Those 2 big screws on that washing machine valve release the valve assembly from the studs. A new valve can be installed by purchasing a replacement valve remove the old rings from the studs and put the new on put the new valve on the existing studs and put the screws back . entire time 15 minutes. Last time i bought one it was $45. I repaired appliances and came across leaky or stuck ones every once in a while. I had 1 of those in the truck all the time. Watts Washing machine shut off

The bathroom was plastic off with a warning sign asbestos do not enter called the investment banker and this guy got shitty with me and said just cut out the plastic and make the repair ... I refused and said when it's clear then I'll make the repair. The owner supported me and told me you did the right thing... I love it when bankers and real estate people tell me how to do my job
I know a Doctor. He is a pretty decent wrench on his motorcycle. He went to school to learn how and hangs out with people that know their stuff. Anything else he'll tell you I'm going to get real skills to do this job. He asks around, usually friends and acquaintances that know. Then he calls. He said, I'm smart enough to know I'm paying for knowledge.

They make a rebuilt built kit for that washer machine shut off assembly. Sometimes you could change the whole assembly or just change the washes. If I'm not mistaken, it looks like a Simmons washing machine valve. simmons is one of The best valve companies out there as of yet. They were the very first to come out with the anti Skuld valve. That is still pretty good up until this day.
I saw a video on YT where a plumber was complaining that the previous licensed plumber had routed the cold water pipe into the hot water pipe going to the shower. The home owner has the right and responsibility to make sure the person he hired is doing the job correctly and thinking through it and not just fitting pipes together. I’m sure it’s frustrating and seems condescending but it’s their home and investment. They have a lot more to lose.

washing machine valves! the whole reason im a hobby plumber now 😂😂😂 i changed out the dryer with a steam feature and when i hooked the hoses up, noticed the gates were leaking from the packing and could not be stopped. Majorly corroded so replacing the packing nahhhhh. Job looks very nice 👍
The reason people try to talk you out of jobs like this is because once you start cutting into the wall to replace stuff it gets terrifyingly complex and open-ended to someone without your expertise. They don't know what else you might find wrong and they're afraid they could find out the whole place is rotten from the foundation up.

If the line backs up your connection is going to leak in the wall. That washer box is made to glue on PVC.
