They are 2 separate songs, but they played them together.
Yes, Elvenjig , originally called Jigs, is a song that Troy brought with him from a former band, Iona. Elvenpath is the first song on the first album, Angels Fall First, from 1997. The first spoken part is the intro to the song on the record. That album was recorded with Tarja, Emppu , Tuomas ,and Jukka. Emppu played guitar and bass in studio. Sami Vanska joined on bass before the second album.
The song ended, the part with no audio is the intro to the next song, I Want My Tears Back, you'll see and hear that section in that video.

@corneliusantonius3108 There's nothing specific to LotR except the spoken part about the Rings of Power that you are referring to.
I know you haven't made this mistake but for others - that reference doesn't mean the whole song is based on LotR as some have said. There is all sorts of myth and Fantasy in here 🙂

Hi Nikki. Great reaction again. Elvenpath is from the first album of Nightwish. Tarja sounded really elvish back then. But Floor is a real real Galadriel, Queen of the Elves.

The spoken parts are from the intro for a 1978 movie by Ralph Bakshi called "Lord of the Rings" made from a book story about world of Wizards, Hobbits, Elves, Dwarves, humans, powerful rings, dragons and the horrible Orcs who were led by the most evil Sauron. In more recent years the Lord of the rings trilogy was remade in full.

The text is a mixture of fantasy literature and Finnish pagan gods. In Finland, as in Rome, Greece, and almost in every country there was a god for everything. Tapio is the god of the forest, Mielikki his wife, an elf lived in the sauna and witches flew on broomsticks. As for the forging of the ring, Tolkien studied Finnish and took inspiration for his books from the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala

This song is one of the first I ever heard from Nightwish. The way it leans towards many works of fantasy is nostalgic, it's been years since I read books from David Eddings but I remember Sparhawk well from series The Elenium. And referencing to Tapio and Mielikki, probably the most well-known forest-ruling deities of Finland makes this song kinda relatable and grounded for me. They're literally called Tapio, King of the Forest and Mielikki, Mistress of the Forest (and any DnD player should recognise her name!).
It's really interesting to see how the songs have kept their multiple layers and complexity through the years even if the themes differ. This song of more fantasy-based like the others in the album yet when compared to the latests songs they still hold similar mystery and intrigue towards the unkown beyond our sight and into our imagination, making us wonder just what lies beyond there. And Tuomas still has the touch of getting the best out of his band.

Great reaction. Elvenjig is not on an album but was played live on the Decades tour. Troy brought it from his previous band Iona, a progressive folk band. th-cam.com/video/wv80lxNJ8aM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zmlbG5xCJeSSWqFn. Elvenpath is from their first album Angels Fall First and the lyrics are kind of cheesy in a typical power metal way. The lyrics reference lot's of charachters from fantasy books, movies and video games. Some obvious ones are Bilbo from The Hobbit, Beauty and the Beast, the Seven Dwarves, Willow, and the Rings of Power from Lord of the Rings. I think the lyrics are very much in line with Tuomas's love of Tolkien literature, fantasy books and movies. It also dwells on his desire to return to the innocence of youth where your imagination runs wild and carries you to Neverland or an elvish world.

Tapio and Mielikki mentioned in lyrics:
Tapio is a god of forests.
Hunters prayed to him before a hunt. His wife is the goddess of the forest, Mielikki. Tapio is the father of Tellervo, Tyytikki and Tuulikki (daughters) and a son, Nyyrikki (the god of hunting). Fitting the "a green man archetype, Tapio has a beard of lichen and eyebrows of moss.
They are part of the Finnish mythology.

Some parts of this song are based on J.R.R. Tolkin "The Silmarilion". Its the story about Middle Earth. "the uncarven path" is the way to "Valinor", the land of the Valar. I ´m sorry, english is not my language. In German I couldt tell you about hours over this.
Very cool that the picture in the background maybe the "Helcaraxe" the Iceworld in the north of Middle Earth. That is one of the ways to Valinor.
And there are some of other fantasy-stuff in there...

'Elvenpath' was track #1 on the first Nightwish album in 1997 ("Angels fall first") before the band had even played a live concert... That record was done by Tarja (vocals), Tuomas (keyboards/ vocals), Emppu (guitar + bass) and Jukka Nevalainen (drums)...
When Nightwish decided to do shows, they hired original bassist Sami Vanska in 1998, and they did the 2nd album 'Oceanborn' (1998) and 3rd album 'Wishmaster' (2000)... before Marko Hietala (bass / vocals) joined in '02.

The song based on "Lord of the rings". In the end of the song you can hear the voice of a narrator about rings created by Dark Lord. Before Floor, with Tarja it was only Elvenpath. But with Troy's instruments it became irish/elvish jig:) Tuomas is a big fantasy genre fan, so this song as many of early based on fantasy books or stories.

@@nikkireviewsBut not accurate. There is mention of LotR of course, but the song is about fantasy worlds and myths in general. There are references to fantasy books like Willow and to Tapio (Finnish god of forests and animals), Mielikki (the Finnish Goddess of the same), Bear King (Indian mythological king of the bears), Blue cloak (one of the hundreds of known names for Odin, ruler of the Norse gods and Valhalla) as well as Snowman, Sparhawk and others

I disagree. If the music is not paused, this was pretty good volume for the music to easily hear what she was telling about her experience. If you want to listen the original piece without extra distractions, you should follow the link in the description. If you came for the reaction, the reaction is more important than hearing the original music track intact and therefore the music should have lower volume as in this video.

Hey Nikki. Well, I don't think you seen the next part (the one that is muted at the end of this video) or, at least not in this epic version "I Want My Tears Back" - where Troy, Floor and Marco harmonies are superb. Elvenpath brings memories of Tolkiens "Lord of the Rings" or the "Hobbit" - mentioned in the lyrics "Bilbo", "Bear-King" and "Willow" and then there is the "Beauty and the Beast" another early song from Nightwish that actually was sang by Tuomas himself (until he decided, others were better suited for the lead singer partl)

I loved Nightwish before, but i love them soo much more after 2013 and up till today. Although the loss of Marko (hopefully just temp) is very visible and they lost alot in theyr vocal sound, but i have nothing against bassist-Jukka in. He used to be in the same band as Kai,so im aware of him from before too. Hes not much of a singer, but a great bassist.

Thete is another great version of this in Bogata in which you can see how some of the sound effectsvat the beginning are achieved - for example the tinkling sound Marco gets by pkaying below the bridge, an unusual technique (as you might expect from Nightwish and Marco).
Remember that Tuomas is a kifelong fan of Disney but also of all fantasy.
