Of all the tutorials I've watched, yours was by far the best and most easiest to understand (considering this was my very first attempt at rooting a phone). Thank you!
I have no knowledge in this matter, it took me about an hour between videos for the updates and new processes, but at the end, everything works flawless, just make sure to follow the instructions as said... many thanks!
Hands down the best unlock/rooting video that's I've seen. Very informative, concise and detailed! Something a lot of us need bc this process can be complicated. Thank you very much!
Worked perfect for me.Thanks sakitech. Those who got stuck at 'Waiting for device' msg, please get into fastboot by pressing power key and then run the recovery cmd. Good luck.
Steps to download adb and fastboot has slightly changed due to Android SDK Tools being renamed to the Android Studio bundle, see this video for step-by-step instructions: th-cam.com/video/0ccUcPR2Mko/w-d-xo.html
sakitech hey man i successfully unlocked my phone but when i tried to root it i get stuck at C:\fastboot>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (waiting for device)
First congrats to sakitech....Brilliant tutorial ! I had no clue what unlocking and rooting a device was but end of 20 minutes it's totally changed. For those of you who had a hard time getting past 18.05 min, Plz do the below steps with you phone connected to your computer full time via USB. 1) Click on recovery and wait. 2) Your phone will be re-booted automatically and will take you to the lock screen. 3) Unlock the device--> go to settings--->go to power--->Uncheck the fast boot option. 4) Now power off the device. Bring up the fastboot/recovery and etc screen by pressing, "Down volume" and "Power button". 5) You will notice that a new word has been added at the top named "Tampered" which means you are doing things correctly and proceed. 6) Now click on recovery and you will be find it continued in the video :) Cheers (y)
After following other instructions for rooting the htc one it was a failed ettempt all i managed to do was unlock the bootloader and was left stuck on what to do. i used the tutorial to pick up from the unlocking process, worked a charm, great video, clear slow and imformative. good work man.
Wow. Thanks. This video is still a great resource and I successfully rooted my HTC One TODAY using these instructions. A few tweaks I needed to do: 1) I had to install Android ADB drivers on windows 10 before fastboot would see the phone 2) clockwordmod is now obsolete and replaced by twrp recovery 3) SuperSU is now version 2.82
Yes, there is low 1% chance that could happen. But in the description of this video, I have added "How to Unbrick" and "How to Unroot" videos. Basically, there is no risk. Everything is fixable and reversible.
Wow! Can't thank you enough for your clear, step by step instructions! Was able to unlock and root my AT&T HTC One M7 with this. Only thing I did differently was to install TWRP instead of Clockworkmod. Thanks a ton!
There is a command you can use to make sure fastboot is working. While phone is in fastboot mode and connected to PC via USB Cable, type in "fastboot devices". If you get an error message, your phone is not in fastboot mode. Just make sure that when you power on the phone using "power+volume down", you highlight the fastboot option and press POWER again to actually activate fastboot status (an active fastboot will be highlighted with red)
The recovery in that forum post is a little old. Use the second link in the description to grab the latest clockworkmod recovery. It says "(preferred link)".
Is USB debugging enabled from "Settings - > Developer Options?", also make sure you have the proper usb drivers for HTC One. You can just google "HTC One fastboot drivers download for Windows 7". Or Windows 8.
That definitely sounds like a driver issue. Uninstall and re-install drivers. Also, try to plug your HTC One to a USB 2.0 port, instead of a USB 3.0 port. And make sure you restart your computer after re-installing drivers.
Great guide!! Still works in June 2015! Some tips: Make sure you've installed drivers for your phone before you begin and make sure you install the latest supersu and recoveries Thanks for the great vid!
Dude yo are the bomb. just an update from my side: I have the HTC One Max from Sprint. I tried the CWM step, and it didn't work, so I went an alternate step and used the TWRP, and it worked. Just a heads up in case others get stuck. Latest version recommended of course. Now my device is unlocked and rooted like a boss.
Go to my website and under the "DOWNLOADS" menu, you will find a link to a website that has working mirrors. Link to my website is in the description section of this video.
Not a 100% sure why but I received an error when I was missing the fourth file (adbwinusbapi.dll), so I included that in the walkthrough anyway. Won't hurt to have the fourth file in your folder.
Can someone please help me, I am going nuts and have been trying to do this for about 4 hours straight with no solution. I keep getting a little closer every time but right now I am stuck at the part around 10:58 . I go into my command prompt and enter fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin just as it says, but it tells me " cannot load 'Unlock_code.bin. I have tried resending the code multiple times and even on different email addresses and I am completely stuck. I have the file saved in the folder with the other files just as he says... I don't understand how I have gotten this far but now am stuck on this step. Someone please help!!!!!!!!
followed your guide exactly and successfully rooted my phone and gained super user access, now time to gain s-off :) which i know how to do, yay! great clear guide! thankyou very much!
If you want to use MAC to complete the process, just make sure you download the MAC version of the Android SDK tools, but yes, you can use the Terminal on MAC.
There are other ways to go into recovery mode. Easiest way is to download a free app called "ROM Manager", which has an option called "Reboot into Recovery".
***** go to unlockallandroids .com where you can get any adroid phone unlocked for free. This seriously is the only siet you need to unlock you androids.
Very good and accurate video. All links works. Just the process of unlocking the bootloader was kind a tricky because there are 8 steps on the website instead of 11 but still, the whole process of unlocking and rooting is easy and understandable for a noob like me :D thx
No, this unlocking is "unlocking the bootloader", not "carrier unlock". The only reason you would unlock the bootloader is to gain the ability to install Custom ROMS (modified versions of Android OS)
bravo to you for explaining it in a slow language for dumbasses like me whos doing this the first time. moving from my POS ip4 to this and that sense UI is killing the phones potential performance. cheers!
great video...now you can use that phone for any GSM international carrier right? ques tion i have an htc one from sprint can I used this same prosedure?
very good step by step explanantion. worked for me got my phone rooted. Only 1 thing id like to say. up date the download links. Had to put some work in finding those. but for the rest. super explanation
Thank you very much for an excellent tutorial. It's so well detailed and organized that the least techie person can follow it successfully. Will this method and these files work on the Verizon HTC One?
Rooting gives you superuser access to your phone. It's similar to when you run sudo command in linux or "run as administrator" command in Windows. If you root your device, you get can do high level things like creating full system backups or run some specialized apps that require root access. I have an article regarding this one my website. Go to my website, sakitechonline, and search for "rooting and unlocking".
thank you very much, although this guide is a little bit outdated so I couldn't find some of the files, never the least I was able to root my phone successfully :) and this is my 1st time doing so, followed all ur steps and it worked like a breeze, thank you for taking the time its 2016 and ur guide is till relevant. cheers :)
+Mantas Rinkevicius hey Bro! Don't I came a cross it in a forum somewhere, I have it all saved I'll upload it and send u a download link... Good day :)
7:38 a pitty it doesn't work on my HTC, it only says "waiting for device" alltough it's connected, but win 8.1 doesn't recognize the phone. :-( HTC-Sync is installed tough. Any advice? Great Tutorial anyway!
Turn your mobile om in BOOTLOADER mode. You should see marked FASTBOOT with blue colour. Make sure you have selected FASTBOOT by clicking the power button before you actually perform anything in CMD... and o fcourse.. connect your phone to your PC with USB cable :D
Gr8! But I the process of rooting I noticed that u changed the source for the recovery, so instead of a file you get a zip file. Do u use that entire zip file or extract a particular file from the zip file
Would these steps apply successfully to all HTC one models (say the M7, M8 or E8 for example) or just the the particular model used in the video? _And_, should I complete this laborious (but worthwhile) process, would this then allow me to run said HTC phone on any major network? See, I want a really decent phone (don't we all?) but I also want it on a decent network with an affordable plan, i.e. Boost Mobile, whom unfortunately doesn't carry some of the HTC models that I'm interested in. So here I am looking into the complex process of unlocking, which I must say, you've laid out quite thoroughly.
Okay, i've done everything from the new video with android studio, then i copied the 4 files in new folder done everything step by step i unlocked the phone but then he didnt want to turn on it stayed at HTC One first screen after i turned on, i entered in bootloader it said its unlocked tryed to turn it on again but the same problem comes up... Then i was forced to lock it again just to turn on the phone... Am i doing something wrong or i just dont wait enough time.. I waited like 10 minutes on the starting screen
My HTC one doesn't say that it is tampered in the fastboot but supersu is installed in my phone. Does this mean that I haven't rooted my device properly?
So when going into recovery my phone just goes to the usual loading screen then black then a phone with a hazard simple then turns on like normal. how do i get to the recovery screen?
I followed link 5, downloaded recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.3-m7att (touch version for at&t htc one), but the file is not the same type as you show at 13:47. Instead of being a .img it is a disc image file. I renamed it to recovery.img and it did not work in the cmd prompt step. Can you help?
I did eventually get my device rooted. My contract with at&t was up so they provided a device unlock code and I used a T-Mobile sim card to complete the process. As for the rooting process I am a little fuzzy on the details of which approach actually yeilded results but I eventually decided to pay the other $25 for sunshine because achieving s-off was so frustrating. Hope this helps
Thanks mate, Can I still use "Terminal" for Mac to flash the file? or should I use Windows for that? ... Also, when I was trying to download the SDK, he gave me the option to download the Mac version, are the four files in both versions (mac & win) are the same?

i had bought an htc one on a website and it looked like the boot loader was already unlocked, so when android 4.4 came out, i downloaded it i didnt know what i was doing. so when the device reboots, my phone is on light blue/cyan color screen and doesn't do anything, if i try to turn it off, it automatically turns back on and goes to the cyan screen again. what do i do please respond. (im new to android)
why the token didn't come out after I enter the command @ cmd.? I already follow all of your instruction, but when I insert command ' fastboot oem get_identifier_token ' and hit enter, nothing come out..help me

Yes, but you can always unlock and unroot which "reinstates" the warranty. But it's not illegal to do any of these things.

You are very good at creating tutorial videos! Thanks!
Thank you so much for the video! It was easy to follow, had maybe to reboot once or twice more often than supposed but it worked at the end.
Nick Cronin did you ever figure out this problem? I'm having the same problem...
Thank you very much! it worked perfectly. First time doing this and had no issues. Thank you again!
Mate you are the man..... god bless you... very precise description... love you mate ... ;) in straight way... LOL
This really helped! Thanks a ton man :D You are awesome!
Thank you so much for your time and hard work on this. Helped me out greatly. :)
Hi sakitech,

do you lose your carrier signal or something like that when you unlock and root your device?
i had bought an htc one on a website and it looked like the boot loader was already unlocked, so when android 4.4 came out, i downloaded it i didnt know what i was doing. so when the device reboots, my phone is on light blue/cyan color screen and doesn't do anything, if i try to turn it off, it automatically turns back on and goes to the cyan screen again. what do i do please respond. (im new to android)
Make sure to use a USB 2.0 port instead of a USB 3.0 port.
Excellent walkthrough. Should work on an international One?
Worked! Thanks a lot you are very clear and relaxed lol
Hey Sakitech I can't flash the recovery.img it's giving me an error in command prompt. What should I do.
