“I hate being Bipolar, it’s awesome.”
I get it.
But you deal with it. You surpass those who can't. God Bless You !
I have it too...I hate it.
@@nicolegeiger2225 Me too. I wouldn't wish it on anyone
@@lapisi.ibhubesi it can be. I just hate it when i become disillusioned into doing something I'm going to hate once the manic state goes away.
@Retain your seed and be a king same here. He’s always been a huge inspiration but I never knew why until I got diagnosed with bipolar 1 and severe panic attacks. Now he’s even a bigger inspiration Bc look how far he came, he never let his mental health stop him from chasing his dream, he always believed in himself when literally no one else did. Ye is forever the goat and knowing his struggle with mental health just makes his accomplishments even better
The media makes him look crazy when in reality he’s a dude that’s battling his own demons
He's not battling demons, he's battling an illness.
Kiki Gomez that’s an expression smart ass
2AstroPuff BI-POLAR is a major mental illness. Many brilliant talented people suffer from this illness.
he is just stupid
@@KaseyLea Yes but bipolar disorder sometimes feels like you are battling demons. Everyday struggle with your own mind is something that i dont wish even to my worst enemy. Bipolar people are literally their own worst enemys. 10-15% of bipolar people die by suicide, wich is very sad.
'You can be president of the United States'
Well that aged like fine wine....
So underrated
Kanye announced his run for president back in 2016

@@arch4ngel I'm 100% sure people would rather vote for Trump again than vote for Kanye.
Jimmy Kimmel why did you plant that in his head?!😣
I genuinely think that Ye is REALLY smart, but he just doesn’t know how to communicate his feelings/perspectives on different things.
I agree. That may be part of his bipolar. The brain does not function the same as people without bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is different for everyone but in some people it does have the capacity to affect how you think, talk, perceive and react to things which makes sense because it is a disease of the brain.
Heavily agree on this Kanye has really good ideas but he has a hard time expressing his thoughts, so you got to take the time and understand him and his logic and so far I agree with Kanye

Every time I feel down and lonely because I have to deal with this illness, I searched for celebrities and successful people who have bipolar and that cheers me up. It gives me hope
It also helps to look at family, friends and others in your community to spot it in them. BPD is so common. Most people still hide it
I wouldn't look at Kanye as inspiration tbh hahahaha

Kanye is actually a very likable guy
No he's not.
He's just a big ego confused.
Mike Nunyabizness you think you're going to convince any body dude? I see u commenting on everyone's praise.
I was a massive Kanye fan & I highly disagree.... most of us like his music but find him very unlikable
He is arrogant and feels like he is better than anyone else. He loves attention like most gemini. Why do you think he married a kardashian! For attention. He is bisexual
"I hate being bipolar, it's awesome." That might be the best summary of what it feels like. I love that he's bringing up the lack of mental health awareness in the black community also. It seems too often that white men get therapists, black men get parole officers.
damn that was deep
This sums up society.

I don’t know man. I got a glimpse into what bi-polar disorder could feel like after taking mind altering substances. And let me tell you… those lows were extremely unforgiving. I gave up while I still could…

This was a nice interview and nice to see his side of the story regarding his illness
Everybody wants to say, whats wrong with him when he talks about politics or anything sensitive in this day of time. But when he says that he was on opiods when he was brought to the hospital and had difficulties weaning off, nobody listens and even think to place themselves in a similar situation.
He has no disease. He is just a Gemini.
Jasmine whateverthefuck... Calm your dumb ass down

He seems very honest and likable here... but back stage...
Mikayla dumbass
T sich thats who he is. If you’re gonna pick apart everything he does. You cant say that because he got where is now from being like that
Trump is the single most popular individual on the entire world. He's also complete trash.
Same goes to other non-Trump talk show hosts like Stephen Colbert. Liberals essentially "helped" Trump become POTUS in 2016. Most likely he'd get re-elected in 2020 with the "help" of liberals again.
Mental Health is real and scary. Thank you Kanye for opening up and touching on these serious internal issues people are Battling everyday!
Your Entertainment City exactly
It's not scary.. You're not helping it now 😅
Mohamed Atta it’s scary for people who live with it but people with mental illness are not scary
Its terrifying
Mental health isn't, but mental illness is
“People need to be able to express themselves without judgement” well.. that’s exactly what people won’t let you do.. so sad
People do not have any right to express themselves knowing full weel that it is intended to hurt someone no matter what. That crosses the LINE.
@@cteigh31 he hasn't said anything to hurt anyone my guy
3:45 Bipolar? That explains a lot... He seems really genuine when he gets to talk about it. The fact that he is fully aware of what his actions are and his behavior during a high episode, is a great start for his wellbeing.
Totally explains his moments of grandiosity
Tbh I really think that Kanye is a untapped indigo because he is completely woke and has a fiery temperament and warrior personality and extremely creative but people don't give him credit for it because he is so called crazy which is not but have demons and weaknesses like the rest of us.
When you are manic you are psychotic so you are not aware of your actions.
Bipolar never goes away.
he says his arrogance comes in so he doesn't disbelieve himself however, no one can doubt this man is better for humanity than a large percentage of the population
Kanye should give TED Talks bro...
His TED talk would be 70 hours long
that would be exhausting to listen to
No.
I like Ye and all, but I don't need to hear +5 hours of Ye

It’s so sad the man is publicly losing a grip on reality I want College Dropout Kanye back his music was just so good
MasonGman yeah man i miss old kanye too :/
I love college dropout and I love new Kanye even more
Disconnected Roamer new Kanye is losing his mind and is not actively seeking help his music is still good but he is legitimately losing his mind
I hate seeing people with hidden disability get taken advantage of.
The way he explains mania really hits home.. sometimes it’s like you’re seeing yourself go 1,000mph but you can’t stop and then after, you have to assess the situation as if you were just a werewolf and weren’t in control.. I really really admire him for being honest because men, black or white or purple, do not often talk about this type of thing...which leads to even bigger problems 100% of the time.
Men don't talk about NPD either. Perhaps it's easier to say you are "Bipolar" than it is to say you have NPD.
there's no purple people 🙄 he was speciafically talking about black people coz it's way harder to talk about mental health in those communities
@WHAT HAPPENED TO GODS COUNTRY? REPENT ALL!!! was Kanye brown with bipolar?
I feel really really sorry for him, especially not having his mother around in these times. He definitely has not been able to get over his mother's death, and find a robust way of grieving and putting his other emotions into perspective.
I believe throwing himself into his art is the only way he has dealt with it.
He is a fantastic artist and person, but he must understand that, why this Maybe out of his control, he must find the fortitude to look for a therapist compartible with his values that he can. and must trust, to help him deal with it safely and productively.
I wish him the utmost success and the very best in life.
Many Cheers Kanye!
He’s speaking with such clarity here, makes me incredibly sad
Yeah he seems in interviews to not be able to articulate himself as well as he does in his music… but here is speaking with so much clarity.
Finally! someone isn’t afraid to get deep and be so blunt about mental health, especially so openly for someone has a “Hollywood” lifestyle. This is SUCH a huge topic that i feel isn’t really talked about and there are SOOOOO many people that struggle with mental health and who just need to feel herd. I wasn’t a fan of Kanye but now watching this I definitely see him in a different light✨💖
@XSilentWizardX I've met many bipolar people before. Kanye may be bipolar BUT he is AN EXTREME NARCISSIST FIRST AND FOREMOST. Please educate yourself on "abusive narcissism" before you are duped again by a narcissist in real life. Kanye uses "Bipolar" the description for a mental illness as an attempt to overshadow and dismiss the blantently obvious real problem- his disgusting arrogance, delusional inflated ego and abusive narcissism. Those who disagree need to educate themselves on Narcissistic Personality Disorder. People with NPD are not victims ..they victimize and actively try to humiliate others amongst other kinds of abuse. He's just manipulating the public (and you) here (another trait of NPD-manipilation). It's sick how many uneducated ppl idolize this, over allll the other positive black male superstars.
But he did it while hurting others. I"ll bet you didn't.
@@Yentra163 why did UCLA diagnose him as bipolar then?
I like how he says being bipolar doesn't do the opposite in your brain, it just heightens how you feel. Whether you go low in your mood or high theyre still how YOU TRULY feel. I dont know the true facts about bipolar disorder but the way he explained it made me understand from his perspective

I'm sharing this video with my brother who is struggling with bipolar 1, according to the professionals who work with him his prognosis is severe and it's been one of the most devastating and eye opening experiences of my life. Regardless of how hard it gets, when we lose him to the mania and the psychosis and all that remains of my brother is his outer shell, he always comes back to us, we have to fight so hard to get him back each time it takes longer but myself and our family love him so unconditionally and as long as anyone with bipolar has a strong support system they will thrive.
Who is here after Kanye's presidential campaign?
Pfff
Any one but him.
I was recently diagnosed with Bipolar II (what Kanye is describing sounds like Bipolar I) and I really appreciate him in this interview.
I love Kanye man. I really do, gives me hope being a weird intelligent black guy myself. He’s my inner self I always wanted to show people but too scared and was always labeled weird when I did try to act like myself. I’m glad a black rapper like this came out during my time. Gives me confidence to be myself more often.
They need more caring black men. Showing any type of feminine qualities as a male in the black community always frowned upon. Like mental health for example

my brother is bipolar, and this actually made me feel that he is going to be just fine isa 😔❤️
I love Kanye; he's such an amazing artist. I hope one day in his recovery journey he'll advocate Bipolar as something you have, not are. We are not our illnesses; someone can't be Bipolar, just like someone can't be cancer. Seeing yourself separate from an illness encourages people to seek help faster, heal better, and break stigma for others xo
I knew he was bipolar. You could tell he was having manic episodes. My husband of 23 yrs was bipolar, though treated very well on medication. We lost him when he stopped his medication abruptly after 15 yrs.
Did you lose him mentally or did he died
He died.
I’m sorry for your loss. I thought the same exact thing as you about Kanye, if you have ever been around someone that has manic episodes you could spot it in Kanye from a mile away.
Thank you. My husband's was much milder, but he also had a much milder life. You recognize the was someone speaks and their mannerisms when in a manic state. He was treated for such a long time to where it was a non-issue in our lives. Stopping the meds abruptly to "take a break" threw him into a severe mixed episode, and I woke and found him, shattering our lives.
I love how people say ah he was so well on medication! NO,no one ever is. They are supressed, then they live a pretense and suffer. They then stop taking medication and naive people go ah it was thr meds look how bad they are now!
I'm bipolar and I'm also more on the manic side but I do have severe suicidal depression. I'm also crazy af and say what I want. I love being bipolar, it sucks!
Sadie's My Name, Chasing Mice is My Game me too I'm more manic
Stay safe though please. Bipolar people have a high risk of suicide off their meds.
me too - LOL :-)
Good for him on not being ashamed of what God gave him! Be yourself, be proud
Its nice to see a calmer Kanye because the ones that make the headlines are when hes amped up and hard to understand and this makes me love him even more because hes such an interesting person
Got diagnosed when I was 14, turning 28 soon. Everyday I battle my demons. Some days are different, others are the same - whether good or bad; like a roller-coaster in terms of mania. I'm on a new medication which is actually working now, and seeking therapy again. Growing strong little by little, but effectively. 🤘
I think he is very uncomfortable in his thoughts.
I doubt it. I think he is more bothered about other people's behavior because they trail off his idealistic version of the society he wants.
vsboy 25 you're thinking too much
quite contrary actually.. set your quality meter to HD
I think your very uncomfortable that kayne is right
I don't agree with him on much, but if you are not bipolar, you just can't imagine what our brains are like - on and off meds. His album title is 100% true, it gives us some experiences no one else has (natural euphoric mania is a high no drug can come close to). I don't like his politics, but for him to live his life so publicly, gives America an understanding of mania like y'all have not had before. He's not someone I want representing me politically, but he is an amazing artist and his creative mind deserves respect. I wish he wouldn't romanticize his mania, but I do the same... God bless you, Kanye, for being an authentic and inspiring voice for bipolar people.
Having a bi-polar brother and son is challenging and it takes a lot of compassion
I have a friend who is bipolar. But he is not a billionaire nor on a stage nor dreaming of being The President.
The fact that someone like Kanye can give me the courage to get through my day having being diagnosed with BPD myself
This interview is great because it truly embraces Kanye for who is as a person. In times like today where media controls a lot of what we think and say, the overall vibe of this section is how we need to approach people in general, regardless of if they are friends or foes. I love Kanye because he loves himself and he is one of the only truly positive and genuine people in this world that actually give a damn about his passions and people that he holds dear. I hate to frame it this way, but I can't wait to see how the world will view Kanye when he's gone because sometimes it's hazy in the moment of his actions but when it happens, people will start to truly appreciate Kanye and will use him as a figure for the youth and those that aren't in power with themselves, whether that be from mental illness or lack of motivation. I am so glad that I live at this time period where Kanye has done so much and impacted so many people and has impacted me at such a young age where I can get inspired by him and still continue to grow. Thank you Kanye for showing me that the world isn't just black and white but is a rainbow of excellence and if we unite together, we can create something beautiful that my kids and their kids will show and pass on.
I am also bipolar. Lyrica has done wonders for me. Given me my life back. Stay Well.
The comment about not being "fully "medicated at age 5 was gigantic but will likely get lost in so many of his other comments.
He appeared to be fully medicated on stage when he berated Taylor Swift.

@@personofnointerest I appreciate your feedback. I am a novice on the academia of a subject like this. I encourage you to go for what you know. We sure need it.
I love how he references the black community. One thing I’ve learned while studying psychology is the prejudice within it in relation to other races. It’s incredibly important that people recognize this, especially those working in human services.
Good on him for being open with his personal mental health issues. I can imagine it helps a lot of people the more open public figures are with their struggles.
Kanye west this is an interview people needs to see. Thank you Jimmy for keeping him calm and being great
*All of you people that called him “Crazy” when he’s mentally ill* are the same people preaching “Positivity” and call yourself “Progressive” he needs help not a spotlight shined on him and mocked… same thing happened with Brittany Spears when she had a breakdown and all the media / people who mocked her just washed their hand’s with the situation and moved on afterwards like they didn’t play a part in it.
I agree that he needs help but at the same time I am sure many people offered help and he refused. He is kind of narcissistic so he thinks he knows everything and shouldn't have to listen to others. Also there are so many people worse off than him that need help, he has plenty of opportunity and means to get help. Most people don't.
The feelings either way are far more INTENSE than what normal people will ever feel..so the creativity / ideas are more intense too
“I feel like you ignored the title” 😭😂😂
Thanks Ye and Cudi for giving Kids See Ghosts. The song Freee helps a lot 🙏🙏🙏

The way he points out the album title he’s actually just so passionate about it and he’s like a little kid expressing himself it was just so cute
I think Ye was one of his best albums and I was surprised to see that some people hated it… imho I think he had more of a vision for the album than he did with Donda and Donda 2.. although I think Donda was basically “Jesus is King” but done right
The mania feels good. That’s why so many people refuse to medicate. You will create the best art you’ve ever done during the manic phase.
It explains so much about his character people with bipolar are hyper sexual (not always) but he definitely is and how he says outrageous things/ has a grand sense of self
I have a loved one who has bipolar. He's hospitalized currently and it's killing me. I feel for Kanye because you can say all sorts of things in mania or psychosis and having the public scrutinize everything you say is tough.

I know nobody finna read all this but idc anyways...
I HATE SEEING COMMENTS SAYING HES EGOTISTICAL AND NARCISSISTIC because I bet you not even 10% of people in this comment section know that Kanye was doubted since day one. when he first started rapping nobody wanted to sign him or work with him because he was known for being a producer , his only supporter was his mother and she died shortly after his rise to superstardom. And that’s the mindset that got him this successful that’s the mindset that won him 22 Grammys and look now he’s the most influential artist of all time. If everybody around you doubted you then it’d be nothing but fair and expected for you to have a mindset like that cause why wouldn’t u,how else are you going to progress and prosper. Why would you condone and believe all that negativity. Kanye turned all of that into positivity with that mindset. Who else is going to believe in you harder than yourself..nobody. And to the ppl who hate on him for having that mindset are literal proof of why he needs that mindset because after all his accomplishments and success ppl still find a way to downgrade and diminish what he stands for and how far he’s come. it’s insecure ppl like you guys who try to hate on others confidence and success just because you wish you were that confident. Ok I’m down now enjoy your day.
Trauma is what creates bipolar inside a person. His mother dying was definitely heartbreaking for him. Unfortunately that changed every part of him, politically, and mentally.
How can you say it changed him politically when you never knew his political opinion before hand? I cant name a time where kanye has ever gone back on something that he said political-wise and even before his mother died he was never afraid to share his opinion just like when he went on tv and said bush doesnt like blacks
Exactly. Also Kanye is not getting therapy. That's also the problem
He was bipolar before the tragic event with his mom...what do you think helped him be a genius song writer and later famous singer ? He was always on manic side of energy and thinking
That’s not how it works… bipolar isn’t caught or obtained. And he said he was having episodes at five, he was definitely born with it. It usually runs in familys.
wrong view entirely...you a medico?
I got diagnosed bipolar a month and a half ago, I was at my high trying to escape from my life traveling at 120km/per hr in a 60 zone running red lights, I crashed after a red light and attempted to steal two cars, I remember asking for their cars because it's an emergency but nothing else really after. Facing these charges now and have never hurt a fly in my life, this video gives me hope someone somewhere and hopefully the judge knows I would never do these things normally, it's a demon and struggle in your mind daily, huge respect for this man facing it in the public eye especially with his face I could not even imagine
I've never really got Kanye. However learning of his openness of his mental health, it's amazing. I've had a parent with bi-polar and I'm glad to see celebrities talk about this!
Say whatever you want about Kanye, but he is a musical genius. Ye is such a great album 🔥
Musical genius that sleeps while other people write his music? I don't think so.
He's the conductor, other people do the little bits he tells them to
Hahahah. Musical Genius my ass.
John Crichton doesn't Drake have Ghostwriters too
I think the word you were looking for is composer.... a conductor takes the composers work and interprets it for the band. Kanye West doesn't even have a band let alone a composition entirely written by him (as he just stated he slept during most of the making of this album). He's not a musical genius because musical geniuses don't need people helping them write their music.
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was 12 years old and a few times after that by different doctors. Sometimes i just wonder who i’d be if i didn’t have it. I wonder if i’d love myself more.
The Golden Nugget I can relate to your comment
Love yourself every day. You are important and a beautiful soul in this life. Sometimes we think the grass is greener on the other side, but that is not always the case. Live every day with joy, remember we only have today not yesterday nor tomorrow. ❤
What I love about Kanye is his drive. My brother had bipolar diagnosed to him when he was 18. He was so into music. Had the world going for him, but he suffered so much. He ended up killing himself. my family had personal problems (longer story) but we’ve been working it out.
And I love Kanye even more now. But most importantly I love his faith.
Exactly, need to express ourselves without fear. Great word Ye
I'm bipolar and I think that it's great that he's so open and honest. I strive to be the same way, for the sake of others who also suffer from mental illness.
Kanye getting the help he needs makes me so happy for him. I’m happy that he’s using his experience to talk more about mental health issues on his platform.
It makes me sos sad when I see people say "Ye is crazy!" OR anything like that. This man is brilliant! And so misunderstood! But he is truly brilliant! I am so thankful for his contributions to society and culture.
The Calm-ye interview
Im glad he is open to talk about mental health because I have horrible anxiety and depression and people who dont have that always act like I need to just get a grip on myself and get my emotions under control wish it was that easy
He is a GENIUS!
Thank you for posting about bipolar disorder!!!
After all this Kimye divorce situation started, I grew to like Kanye quite a bit. He seems quite sweet, likeable and has the best smile... Wish him 🍀
As a bipolar 1 person it’s so nice to hear someone talking about it so accurately- it’s hard to describe how it is so to watch someone be successful with it is fantastic
F for Cora Lee, who was feeling fantastic due to Kanye being sucesfull
I appreciate him being open about this. As a bipolar person, I relate.
As a member of the bipolar club I am so grateful that he is open to talking about it. It’s so difficult just cruising through my average life and navigating all it throws at you and how the world views you, to be ridiculously famous with media in your face and revolting gossip mags making up stories to make money from your illness must be incredibly difficult for him and his family. I have never been a huge Kanye fan I can totally appreciate his amazing talent and what he has brought to the music world. I am not a Kim fan either but I do admire her strength and support for him as this illness is a family destroyer.
This actually made me wish him well. I hope he finds the balance between being the creative he wants and needs to be, and being mentally well at the same time.
I relate to what he's saying. I always knew I was bipolar even at a young age.
Regardless of your opinion on Kanye, it’s great that we’re having this discussion about mental health. Society needs this.
It looks like he has it so together here. Balance and stability. Even has the ability to laugh at himself. And of course still talented. “Ain’t no shame in the medicine game”!
I would like to show some support here too. I have mad respect for him to talk about his BD publicly, mad respect. This is something extremely brave to do, it's important for him as well as for the rest of us who are concerned by that. I'm impressed and I feel kinda proud for him, I have to say 😅
Kanye we with you forever. I love you and hope you going great
"I hate being bipolar; it's awesome!" was an internet meme for a hot minute. I remember seeing it and sharing it like yep that's me. Probably like 4 yrs ago. Great album title and for bringing awareness.
I love kanye I'm so glad to see him happy and secure with his diagnosis. Mental health really need to be discussed and understood. So I'm so happy to see him happy. ❤❤❤
I Love how open he is with mental health. Very important
Mental health issues are very difficult. I admire him for speaking about it, and I wish him well.
This man is sooo ahead of his time every interview makes 10X more sense years later
Kanye is an inspiration. Keep up the good work! So many are suffering. There is definitely a lack of understanding about certain brain disorders in the African American community. Good point. Kanye was helpful to shine some light on a very important issue. Love you Kanye!
Tweety Bird I agree
I never liked Kanye because of his grandiosity...but i totally get it now! My brother was diagnosed with bipolar and he was the same way as Kanye.
My mind has changed about Kanye now...❤️
U should listen to his music, it’s one of the best things you’ll witness
I have extreme highs too....I feel for u Kanye...Getting older it’s starting to get difficult to control but I love music
Stay strong 💯 my love for music is one of the small joys that makes days worth living
I swear me and Kanye are the same person sometimes. I always relate to the things he says that piss people off 🤷🏻♀️
Jimmy had to get the trump burn in at the end. Guy never stops thinking about him.
eddie d ikr
eddie d I think he secretly admires him.
I know, really wasn't the time and place
his talk show now is basically a political statement with famous people interviewed on it.
John Prescott you must not be very intelligent
People make fun of him but they don't understand that he is just a person with his up and down, bipolarity is not something to joke about, God bless you Kanye 🙏🏻❤
Didn't know. Respect for making it so far in life.
Kanye really touched on something very important here... when we suppress our true feelings or are afraid to reveal something about ourselves (something that society tells us is not normal, not status quo, or something that society says we should be ashamed of) we give it power over us and it takes hold. I suffer from anxiety and for a long time I was ashamed of that fact, but when I finally stopped trying to hide it, it eventually lost some of its hold and power over me. Those suppressed thoughts and feelings are toxic and can harm us mentally and physically (they can eat us alive). Another example is at a very young age I experienced hair loss ...at the time as a young woman in my 20s it was something I was ashamed of, so I tried to conceal it even more (my hair loss was at peak during this time).. after I began to reveal my struggle with it and admitted to it outwardly, some of my hair slowly started to return... it never grew back fully, but I killed the power it had over me, by being ashamed of it and constantly trying to conceal it. So many people were scared to reveal their support for Trump... but why does society get to control us in that way... it is completely unhealthy to suppress those feelings and beliefs.
I like seeing him just be natural like this, pretentions stripped away.
Stay well, fella.
