Two things I didn't mention in the video that play a factor. I didn't mention them because I knew people would argue with me about it since I foresaw people telling me that time machine is their favourite song even though I said it's definitely liked but just isn't on the levels of songs like DSISM or TME for example. Anyway: 1. Joe is best looking. Of course attractiveness is subjective and you might find another member better looking or not think Joe is attractive. However, on average due to him being most conventionally attractive, people will find him most attractive. This is much like Harry Styles. Other members were definitely attractive and every member was manufactured to have appeal and be attractive (they have a whole ass music video where it's supposed to look like you're on a date with each member, being attractive is definitely a massive selling point of 1D) but Harry Styles just stood out as most attractive. People will therefore focus on him when watching 1D media (music videos, live shows, interviews) as he is the most pleasing to look at. Apply that to Tally Hall and you'll see what I mean. 2. Joe Hawley really rolls of the tongue. Much more than "Rob Cantor". Joe Hawley having skits where he repeatedly tells his own name helps this but the only reason he can do that is the ease in which his name can be said. This makes it very memorable. Yes you could argue "Zubin" is more memorable as it is an unusual name to English speakers, the target demographic of Tally hall. However, this can also work against Zubin's memorability as a name like his is also uncommon and hard to remember because of this (same applies to Bora Karaca). Joe Hawley is memorable and rolls off the tongue like Harry Styles is memorable and rolls off the tongue So putting together their attractive appearance that makes them visually appealing to focus on, their names being ones that stick with you, their big and outlandish personalities and their work in and out the band being most well liked and you can see why Styles and Hawley took Payne and Cantor's place. Also in addition, Joe having a more dominant and eye catching tie colour than Rob. Of course, some people might not agree with everything but I hope you can see why others might agree. Edit: as of 16th October 2024, Liam Payne has passed away. This is extremely sad to hear and wish everyone affected by his death well. My condolences. I know Liam Payne wasn't a very good person but he isn't Hitler. Let's treat his passing with respect as he had family and friends that are going to be grieving their loss. The last thing they need is for us to make a mockery of his death or disrespect him. Thank you

Really love the style of this vid! I think it’s worth noting that Rob is “legally” the owner of the band, as Andrew has noted that he’s the one who distributes their earnings and makes the financial decisions for the band. He had also been there the longest and most consistently alongside Zubin and Andrew, since Joe came after and sometimes had Casey fill in for him while touring. I admire the idea of his leadership not being dominant or overcontrolling, but keeping room for others to be heard and step into the spotlight. But yeah man, Joe suggested the name Tally Hall and has been synonymous to the band itself in a way. When I was a baby fan of Hawaii: Part II, I thought the other artist people were talking about was called “Tally Hawley” 😭😭
I feel like all the ties they were given really fit them, but if I were to change the ties, I'd give Rob red so he can be seen as more of a frontman, I'd give Zubin yellow because it fits, I'd give Andrew blue because that's his favorite color, I'd give Ross green because that's his favorite color, and Joe can get gray because his personality is colorful enough to make up for it, probably lol
I am not super knowledgeable about bands or their fandoms, but I think the people who listen to Tally Hall the most today play a big role in this interpretation. In this day and age, the Tally Hall fanbase is mostly comprised of people in one or both of these categories: Neurodivergent and LGBTQ+, which makes them sort of share a fanbase with Will Wood and Jack Stauber. This is interesting since this fanbase is most interested in the strange, eccentric, chaotic songs, rather than the love songs. Looking back at our members, Rob "writes heterophonic tunes of how love bites", while Joe always makes the songs that range from complete tomfoolery to ethereal wonder (Of course, there is mixed grounds in certain cases, like Rob literally writing about being born and pink flamingos, or Joe writing Our Lullabye, a love song for his now ex-girlfriend that was repurposed into Stranded Lullaby). This is to say that if the Tally Hall fanbase was more like the fanbase of bands who specialize in love songs (IDK, there are too many), maybe Rob would be more popular and more obviously the leader. All of that being said, I am under the thorough belief that all the members are important in their own ways, and we need all five of them in order to make Tally Hall (so not all five, not Tally Hall, though I can excuse when they need substitutions, like when Casey performed when Joe couldn't, even though I despise Joe erasure). I mean, Hawaii Part II is debatable over whether it is Tally Hall or just Joe partially because Andrew was absent from it.
It’s like I keep saying to people: yeah every member of Tally Hall is great, but like, Joe is clearly the most known and most influential one. Every single top song or song that has trended before was written by Joe, even the only song on Rob’s album that got anywhere near being well recognized was also the only one originally written by Joe. Not to mention of course Hawaii Part II which had another 3 songs completely pop off in the algorithm.
Exactly. Not only is he the most influential and therefore well recognised but he's also got the biggest personality, stand out tie colour, most memorable name and is the most conventionally attractive (not saying the others aren't attractive or that everyone finds Joe attractive obviously). He is essentially the Harry Styles of Tally Hall. Styles had a stand out personality, memorable name, was extremely conventionally attractive and went on to have the largest solo career after 1D. There's obviously a pattern when it comes to these band members that accidentally become "the main one". There are some points I didn't really go into in the video but it's no wonder Hawley is often assumed to be and considered the lead guy with all these factors.
Everything you said in this video made so much sense 😭 I’ve always seen Joe as the front man but never understood why. This explains everything thank you wiz 🙏🏼
3:07 but I love Time Machine……. (I wrote the words Time Machine in regards to the song enough times in my notes app that it took me a minute and 10 seconds to scroll through it all)
"now I'm not saying it isn't a popular song or it's not a good song" Key word was "everyone" when I was talking about it being people's favourites. Your isolated opinion isn't what I was talking about. Idk how I can make it more clear that obviously time machine is a good and well liked song. It just isn't the most popular off HP2 and isn't "the one" in the same way "I'm gonna win" is.
@@project_letters lol the comment was mostly a joke, I heard what you said and you made it pretty clear but I was really just commenting it because Time Machine needs to be more popular.
"everyone" was the key word. I know people likes time machine, it's good. However, it does compete with DSISM, TME and murders for example. This is unlike I'm gonna win
actually so interesting to think about. I think popularity (songwise) and charisma play a part, but I also think his looks had something to do with it. Lots of people found him attractive back in the day, i think people are bound to look at the attractive guy of a group as the leader in one way or another /shrug
I didn't mention that because as you can see the comments are full of people saying they like time machine (which is bothersome because I literally said it's good and popular, it's just not so popular that it's the fan favourite) so I didn't want to be anything else subjective in. You are 100% right. Being the best looking and having a memorable name (rolls of the tongue more than "Rob Cantor" and is therefore more memorable. He also repeats his own name constantly) definitely played a part. Of course, I worried people would argue that they don't find Joe most attractive or that Rob is also attractive if I pointed it out but if you look at 1D for example it is clear why Harry Styles is seen as the leader over Liam Payne. His name is memorable, so you're most likely to remember him over the other members, and he's most conventionally attractive so he's often the one everyone is looking at and paying attention to. TL;DR: you are 100% right, Joe's conventionally attractive features (and also his memorable name) were going to be mentioned but I cut it because I knew I'd already get enough people arguing they don't agree with my generalisations and didn't want the entire comment section to be about how people disagree with Joe being attractive or think Rob is hotter
I think its a very Beatle-y situation. There was technically no frontman for the Beatles, but the head songwriters were John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and they did have leader esque aspects to each of them John started the Beatles when they were originally The Quarrymen and Paul held the band together in their later years But ultimately John Lennon is the most leader like of the Beatles like Joe is the leader/frontman of Tally Hall Lennon wrote the most songs, sang the most, and his song Imagine from his solo career is the most well known out of any Beatle's solo stuff. Paul McCartney even said that he and the other 2 Beatles all looked up to John the most, that he was their little Elvis. He even said last year, "when we lost John that's when we knew it was really over." So yea, I think the situation of who Tally Hall's frontman/leader is is a similar situation to the situation of who the Beatles' frontman/leader is; technically there isn't one for either, but their respective individual rhythm guitarists fit the mold most
I dunno, I always undoubtedly thought of rob as the front man and I'm not sure why, it definitely should by all circumstances be joe but I really never even really considered the idea
I never thought I'd see more than one similarity between 1D and tally hall but here we are. Also imo, all of tally hall are the frontmen. They each write and sing in their own distinctive styles. (except ross but ross is just a drummer) therefore, there can't reeeeaaaalllyy be one frontman. Let them share the role.
Wait until you see my analysis I'm making where I compare them to BLACKPINK... They definitely are all frontmen, in the same way everyone in the same way everyone in one direction did the same thing but you'd be lying if you didn't think Harry styles was the main one
@@Noodles_Poodle However, that was never the intention. 1D was built around Nial and they chose Liam as the leader. Harry ended up getting the fame though even during their career. Why? An eccentric personality that stands out, a super good singing voice and he's definitely conventionally attractive Apply that to Tally Hall and you can see why we consider Joe the lead in the same way you'd take one look at 1D and say Harry styles was the lead (and that was an industry plant where everyone was created to be appealing and have certain roles. Tally Hall wasn't so it's understandable how things didn't exactly go to plan)
Completely off topic from the majority of the video, save for around 3:04, but I think people would care about Time Machine a lot more if it was more like the earlier versions- This is just my opinion ofc but all the early versions as well as that one live Tally Hall performance of it are just like.. better? They feel more compelling than the final version does. Demo 1 is charming and like a love song, 2 is haunting, ominous, and almost has gospel-like energy, and 3 is upbeat and fun to listen to! And just for good measure, the live Tally Hall performance version has an almost frantic feeling, along with great instrumentation and harmonies. When compared to the early versions, the finalized Time Machine just doesn't have that impact. Again, just what i think, I could totally be wrong! 🤖💛🌴🌈

I saw you on TV You're dressed up like a bee Reminds me of the time How it's gone, and it's gone, and it's gone It's sadness every day that passes without you And I really wanna, really wanna, really wanna hold you both tight And tell you you're mine, but instead I sing Mary-Kate and Ashley, I hope you understand That I love you a lot and I wanna be your man And I think that it'd be totally cool If I hung around your apartments and enrolled in your school Hello? Your isolated opinion doesn't change the point I made as I was talking about the majority. I explained in the video that I acknowledge people like the song but I said "everyone".
@@CSharpDCS can't tell which part you're responding to but if it's the first part then, no that's not how averages work. Is time machine good? Yes. Is it popular? Decently, yes. I said that in the video. However, it does not have the same effect as I'm gonna win where the main consensus is that it is the favourite. There are individuals that might like certain songs off NAT better the I'm gonna win but most don't. Even if they do, I'm gonna win often still is high in the list of favourites but I digress. In HP2 this isn't the case.. There's songs like TME, DSISM and murders on that album that are obviously favourited more than time machine. Their individual opinions are relevant in other contexts, but not when the statement that was made was "most people's favourite of HP2 isn't time Machine". I legit said all of this in the video because I am aware it's not hated song but it isn't exactly the most popular either. If you mean the second bit, are you really going to try make the argument that time machine is more loved and well known that murders, DSISM and TME? You'd have to be deluded. Maybe you like them more, but your individual opinion doesn't change the fact that the majority do not agree. This video is working off the majority for obvious reasons. If you like Time machine more, that is fine. It's just not really relevant to the discussion being had in the video. Sorry if I came off as blunt but I have received multiple comments saying the same thing even though I literally said in the video that I'm aware people like it and that it's decently popular. the keyword was "everybody" when I said it wasn't the favourite. I'm not talking about anomalies. Obviously time machine lovers exist. WTTH is probably my favourite TH song, but that doesn't mean it's the fan favourite.
@@project_letters Just because you disagree with someone doesn't mean you need to be rude to them. The original commenter said that Time Machine was their favorite song, and you responded INCREDIBLY rudely. And yes, the individual's opinion is relevant to the majority. Who do you think makes up the majority? Did you take statistics?
the first person I think of is usually ross but I’m extremely biased as I am named gray and play the drums also I’ve always associated the leadership as the “Straight Man” leader and the “Absolute Wildcard” leader
for me it was supposed to be Rob but Joe stole the title from him. And who can blame him? I personally love the Joe from boralogues and this and he has the best songs. Yes he has the best songs I know people will argue with me but Idc
you're WRONG! i do think of songs like Greener, Out In The Twilight, You & Me, and Never Meant To Know when I think of Tally Hall! the first song that comes to mind though, however, is Fate Of The Stars
they're all just robots (automated players) i proclaim but zubin does say "yellow tie this suave fellow writes heterophonic tunes of how-love bites" first so idk
i kinda like to think that there is no true frontman of tally hall. after all, there are 3 main songwriters, and 3 main singers. but something tells me if the band themselves was asked who the frontman was theyd probably give a silly answer like "steve" or "bora"
joe wasnt much of a lead in the concerts though. people tend to overlook that fact. just like matt was more the lead of weezer than rivers in the 90's if you look at the live shows. Rob is the lead.
Tbh does it matter? Like you kinda just end up thinking if your favorite member when you think of tally hall, what’s even the point if a “main member” anymore?
Two things I didn't mention in the video that play a factor. I didn't mention them because I knew people would argue with me about it since I foresaw people telling me that time machine is their favourite song even though I said it's definitely liked but just isn't on the levels of songs like DSISM or TME for example. Anyway:
1. Joe Hawley is memorable and rolls off the tongue like Harry Styles is memorable and rolls off the tongue
So putting together their attractive appearance that makes them visually appealing to focus on, their names being ones that stick with you, their big and outlandish personalities and their work in and out the band being most well liked and you can see why Styles and Hawley took Payne and Cantor's place. Also in addition, Joe having a more dominant and eye catching tie colour than Rob.
Of course, some people might not agree with everything but I hope you can see why others might agree.

3:12 Trick question time machine is actually my favorite HPII song
"everyone" was the key word. I know people likes time machine, it's good. However, it does compete with DSISM, TME and murders for example. This is unlike I'm gonna win
I need Will Wood x Tally Hall mashup called Front man (front street x banana man) now
actually so interesting to think about.
When I talk about Tally Hall, I immediately think about Joe Hawley. Ruler Of Everything is a masterpiece
I think its a very Beatle-y situation. There was technically no frontman for the Beatles, but the head songwriters were John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and they did have leader esque aspects to each of them
John started the Beatles when they were originally The Quarrymen and Paul held the band together in their later years
But ultimately John Lennon is the most leader like of the Beatles like Joe is the leader/frontman of Tally Hall
Lennon wrote the most songs, sang the most, and his song Imagine from his solo career is the most well known out of any Beatle's solo stuff. Paul McCartney even said that he and the other 2 Beatles all looked up to John the most, that he was their little Elvis. He even said last year, "when we lost John that's when we knew it was really over."
So yea, I think the situation of who Tally Hall's frontman/leader is is a similar situation to the situation of who the Beatles' frontman/leader is; technically there isn't one for either, but their respective individual rhythm guitarists fit the mold most
Thumbnail is honestly fire
Thank you very much! Glad someone pointed it out because I really liked it 😊
@@project_lettersofcourse!!
@@project_letters harry styles is the main one in one direction for sure.
@@Noodles_Poodle However, that was never the intention. 1D was built around Nial and they chose Liam as the leader. Harry ended up getting the fame though even during their career. Why? An eccentric personality that stands out, a super good singing voice and he's definitely conventionally attractive
Apply that to Tally Hall and you can see why we consider Joe the lead in the same way you'd take one look at 1D and say Harry styles was the lead (and that was an industry plant where everyone was created to be appealing and have certain roles. Tally Hall wasn't so it's understandable how things didn't exactly go to plan)
@@project_letters that's very true.. you've got me thinking now...hmm..
Red ties are also more eye-catching than yellow ties.
Pecicely
Completely off topic from the majority of the video, save for around 3:04, but I think people would care about Time Machine a lot more if it was more like the earlier versions-
This is just my opinion ofc but all the early versions as well as that one live Tally Hall performance of it are just like..
3:36 NOT THE ROB JUMPSCARE
I don't know who's the front man but i do know who's banana man
Do you see him?
@@jupitergolden yes he was Hoping over on the white hot sand!

Its similar to the Beatles in that John was the front man, but the biggest bangers were Paul songs.
there are some things we are never meant to know

3:14 but Time Machine is me favorite miracle musical song Edit: y’all I didn’t mean to start a fight it was a joke
I have this little thing
It's probably just a fling
Two girls I like a lot
I think they're really hot
But I'm not sure if they know
How my love began to grow
It took a lot of time
But right now, it's solely mine
Today!
I drew a mural of
The things I'd like to love
And where my heart resides
Is with two girls with great eyes
If they just gave me a chance
I'd show them what they want
And teach 'em what they got
I'd tickle each and every one of their fancies
And I'd take the key to my heart
And open it, and let the love shine through
Mary-Kate and Ashley, I hope you understand
That I love you a lot and I wanna be your man
And I think that it'd be totally cool
If I hung around your apartments and enrolled in your school
Mary-Kate!
I saw you on TV
You're dressed up like a bee
Reminds me of the time
How it's gone, and it's gone, and it's gone
It's sadness every day that passes without you
And I really wanna, really wanna, really wanna hold you both tight
And tell you you're mine, but instead I sing
Mary-Kate and Ashley, I hope you understand
That I love you a lot and I wanna be your man
And I think that it'd be totally cool
If I hung around your apartments and enrolled in your school
Hello? (Hello?) Hello?
Hey, I'm calling from Tally Hall (wait, say that again, slowly)
What? Hello? (Hello?)
Hey, I'm calling from Tally Hall and I just-
Mary-Kate and Ashley, I hope you understand
That I love you a lot and I wanna be your man
And I think that it'd be totally cool
If I hung around your apartments and enrolled in your school
I know that life without you and you would be sad
And I know it'd be bad
Mary-Kate and Ashley, I hope you understand
That your loveliness blossomed and I wanna hold your hands
And I think that it'd be totally cool
If I hung around your apartments and enrolled into your school
Mary-Kate and Ashley, I hope you understand
That I love you a lot and I wanna be your man
And I think that it'd be totally cool
If I hung around your apartments and enrolled in your school
Mary-Kate and Ashley, I hope you understand
That I love you a lot and I wanna be your man
And I think that it'd be totally cool
If I hung around your apartments and enrolled in your school
Mary-Kate and Ashley, I hope you understand
That I love you a lot and I wanna be your man
And I think that it'd be totally cool-
Your isolated opinion doesn't change the point I made as I was talking about the majority. I explained in the video that I acknowledge people like the song but I said "everyone".
It's my favorite too
@@project_letters Yes... it is???
Me when my favorite song on Hawaii Pt II is Time Machine…
IT WAS JOE
Im pretty sure Rob also started Listed Black, which turned into Tally Hall
the first person I think of is usually ross but I’m extremely biased as I am named gray and play the drums
also I’ve always associated the leadership as the “Straight Man” leader and the “Absolute Wildcard” leader
Jawley
Bora is the front man trust me
I couldn't agree more lmao
(Btw, where are the clips 4:00 and 4:20 from?)
From Joe signing a charizard Pokémon card. It's on RubyRed's channel
Tally hall was completely mutual
I always saw it as both tbh
Asking if Joe or Rob was the front man of Tally Hall is like asking whether John or Paul was the front man of The Beatles
I am back
All of them
What if I think of two wuv
Keep up like this and u will gain more subs than Tally Ball🗣🗣📢📢📢‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Anyways- amaizing video as always! Keep up the good work :3
Hear me out...
Its andrew.
I dont have anything to support this opinion he's just dope
As someone said on one of the MMMM video uploads, "all of these boys look like side characters, i can't find the main one"
In my opinion there really is no frontman.
for me it was supposed to be Rob but Joe stole the title from him. And who can blame him? I personally love the Joe from boralogues and this and he has the best songs. Yes he has the best songs I know people will argue with me but Idc
Never agreed more 👏
@@project_letters wrote it before the video lol
2:42 - WHY CAN I HEAR THEY LYRICS (background music)
We all know Andrews the real lead!
you're WRONG! i do think of songs like Greener, Out In The Twilight, You & Me, and Never Meant To Know when I think of Tally Hall! the first song that comes to mind though, however, is Fate Of The Stars
Joesph
Hawley
it was me duh
Sólo tengo algo qie decir: Ross Federman and the guys 👍
they're all just robots (automated players) i proclaim
but zubin does say "yellow tie this suave fellow writes heterophonic tunes of how-love bites" first so idk
I did say that in the video
alr
It's obviously BORA.
Personally, I don't really care who the lead guy is I like all of Tally Hall including Bora
when did joe's neck get snapped in the thumbnail
uhh I think Rob and Zubin are, they *did* found the band
But Joe was the main character for Banana Man, and Joe Hawley made Joe Hawley Joe Hawley, so he is automatically the leader.
i kinda like to think that there is no true frontman of tally hall. after all, there are 3 main songwriters, and 3 main singers.
but something tells me if the band themselves was asked who the frontman was theyd probably give a silly answer like "steve" or "bora"
ross isnt the lead.. hes just a drummer
Joe plays "lead guitar" so…
when i think of tally hall i think of be born🥺 i love be born bebornlover911
joe wasnt much of a lead in the concerts though. people tend to overlook that fact. just like matt was more the lead of weezer than rivers in the 90's if you look at the live shows. Rob is the lead.
Tbh does it matter?
Like you kinda just end up thinking if your favorite member when you think of tally hall, what’s even the point if a “main member” anymore?
4:28 AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

Incorrect! Rivers Cuomo is the front man! He did write their defining hit "Ruler of Buddy Holly" after all!
