hi there! I have been looking at these awnings for my vw T6.1 so glad you posted this!
Awesome! I wasn't sure if I should post it up! I've been sitting on this video since last summer too 🙈 thanks for your encouragement!
Was shocked to discover you need to buy the midge net separately! We only ever wild camp so had been considering an awning but only a small number of spots we've been to would really be suitable. For it to be usable space in Scotland though we'd really want maximum midgie defenses. We have seen ourselves kill over 100 midges before bed in the camper just from opening the doors to put ramps out to get the bed flat in that predusk midgie hour!
Hey Iain, you're not wrong! to be honest, when I'm wild camping I never use an awning. Usually prefer a small set up thats easy to pack away. I've got a great battery light from Outdoor Revolution that attracts and kills midge. There may be a link in my useful stuff list in the comments here.
Great video - How are the beams secured to the groundsheet? Is there a velcro patch?
They are yes. I seem to remember them being sewn in. There are velcro vents in the sides.
I have this (T5 SWB) but find it sags under the weight of rain in the tunnel. Also catches on the top of the sliding door. What are your thoughts, now you've had it a while?
Hey Gemma, yeah totally. Getting it tight when setting up is the key but thats easier said than done! I usually just hold it out the way with one hand when moving the door. I've sold this now along with my old T6.1 and bought a new van.
I wish you show how it connects to the van , i bought one but nothing in the instructions on what kit to buy and nothing on the net ??
Hi Dave, you need an awning rail. It has a figure of 8 configuration and you slide the big gray strip with the small tube section into it. Does your van have an awning rail?
If you pause the video at 16 seconds you can see the black rail in line with the tailgate. The awning is attached 👌
Waterproof ? Can it fit on a tailgate?
Yes it's like a tent, so waterproof, but no it doesn't fit on the tailgate. It goes on the rail.
Would you say it’s worth £550 mate been looking at a few cayman Combo and the voyager.
I love Outdoor Revolution stuff, good build quality. I've not seen it in person, only online. The Vango awning is ace, great build quality, easy to put up. I've not seen one yet that isn't a total pain to put away but that's just awnings!!!
I have the Cove II as well. It’s a superb awning. Only 1 thing to point out is it doesn’t have a clip out groundsheet. The Cove 1 did. Some campsites don’t like non clip out groundsheets if on a grass pitch. What I like about the Cove II is the covered porch area. You can use it as a sun shade or if it’s raining to sit under. I had 2 Outdoor Revolutions before I got this. The Cayman Air Mini (Too small) and the Cayman Air Midi (Good size) until the stitching came apart and the tubes started bulging.
@@marcandsebe what do you mean a clip out ground sheet mate ?
@@njt937 The groundsheet on the Cove II is sewn in. On the Cove I it could be removed (clipped out) Some campsites won’t let awnings to be up for more than 3 days if they have sewn in groundsheets, so the grass isn’t killed.
It’s still a superb awning and I could have purchased a used Cove 1, but went for the II.
@@marcandsebe cheers for this mate. I’ve just ordered one looks really nice. Have you been to many sides where they have been funny with that after 3 days and made you take it down ?
The dark color of the new collection 2024 makes it "not worth it"
The dark colour is what makes it worth it for me! It's the reason I want a Vango
I bought this last yr an its perfect on my mk1 tranny connect lwb . Sits solid when strapped up right . Bang on for the dosh 👍
Glad you like it Danny, its a cracking awning!
