The memories! :D My old elementary school had these beautiful machines EVERYWHERE; even the staff lounge had one. My favorite one continues to be the tangerine one.
ME TOO!! I always loved it when the teacher let us all play games or surf around, the class would go quite and you could hear the servers and pcs in the room just rumbling.
@@trabant601e may be the bearings are worn but my g3 also sounds exactly like this and it has for the 10 years I’ve owned it. Works perfectly fine it’s just reallly loud.
@@ChickenJoe-tq6xdoh I’ve seen one alright… especially an RCA Lyra (in fact, I kind of stole it from my grandparents who happened to have stolen it from my mom)
That's the hard drive, not the fan. These slot load iMacs had no fans. You should hear the 7Gb hard drives that were in the low end Indigo iMacs - they were load!
This model of the iMac were some of the best workhorse computers in their generation. Great for computer labs and schools… got for teenagers and young adults… I liked them
Please keep making videos about the sounds of old mac machines, it warms my heart to think of Steve Jobs rolling in his grave each time someone listens to it.
Last week, I replaced my iMac G3's Compact Flash hard-drive with an 120 GB OWC SATA SSD. I'm glad I did, as I wanted to dual-boot Mac OS 9 and OS X, and someone on Twitter warned me about the impact of virtual memory in OS X on CF cards. The iMac still runs great with this new SSD, but with dual operating systems and a more long-lasting Flash hard-drive. :)
I remember back in 2000-2001 a computer room in college filled with these. But no one could figure them out. Lol. Everyone would be trying to use the PC’s while the Macs would be just sitting there, unused. Lol
I've got a green one but the inner bezel is shattered (a lot of iMac g3's have this issue), however, Mac effects is releasing inner bezel reproductions in June, so I can make it good as new then
Hearing that startup sound again, I really felt it
I still have it to this day. Mac OS high sierra.
@@toddlermindcraftsHow do you have a iMac g3 with high Sierra?
@@sarahbancheroI’m not sure but it could be modified (somehow)
@@ChineseJohnCena yeah, people have figured out to get newer computer logic boards to fit into these old ones.
I have iMac G3 in benedictine ❤❤

The startup chord sounds so nice
This looks to be a 1999-2000 iMac G3 DV blueberry, for people who are wondering.
It is!!!
I forgot how *noisy* those old HDD's were.
It seems to just be apple ones, I've seen alot of old hdds that still run/sound great
This one probably just has bad bearings, they aren't supposed to be this loud

It was the best and coolest thing you could have 💯
Listen, young people. These were the COOLEST things ever. And if you got to use one of the four in the elementary school computer lab, you were a GOD.
Fr!! But let's cut the god part hehe
I did
I was born in 2002 and grew up with these exact computers in my classroom. How young are you talking? Kids born after 2007 probably never seen one

I'm really a fan of these old machines, they are truly pieces of history, I wish one day I had one
One day your computer will also become retro, just wait another 20-30 years.
this brought back feelings I didn’t know I had.
A beautiful machine from an era I truly miss…
I was born in 94 so these right here are the most nostalgic for me. Going to the computer lab were the best school days.

YEEEESSSS THIS IS MY FAVORITE COMPUTER OF ALL TIME
This computer IS so beautyful
The fan speed : *12000 rpm* 💀
Actually I think it's the hard drive making that noise as the bearings can get worn out and make it really loud like this one!
We had One ,back in the day. So nice to hear the Sound ,after all these years . Thank You .
That’s rare since most speakers on that are broken
The startup:😢
The overheat:❤❤
the startup sound is now my ringtone

Used in art school collage. During 1st bfa anyway.
While I'm completely familiar with all the noises here. I don't recall the hard drive being this loud. Might be time to replace it.
Time to put an SSD in it.

I installed a 128 GB Compact Flash card for a hard-drive in my 1999 graphite iMac G3. With this SSD, my iMac boots and runs completely silent. :D
