Hello Morgan, I have been watching your videos, and i find them very interesting. I am considering the posibility of going to school to become a bookeeper. I am exploring what all the posibilities of employment on this field.
Megan you’re really awesome!! I’am new in this bookkeeping business, got my certificate about 3 weeks a go 😊 I stared working part time with an accountant, some times I find this a bit complicated 😅but I really like this new journey ❤ your videos are very helpful 👍 thank you
Just found your channel. I am a private accountant for a local place but I've always wanted to do my own bookkeeping business as a side hustle but I've been a little scared to jump into it. Not much of a "people person" LOL. Your videos are super helpful, Thanks!
I'm just getting everything started. I really do appreciate the day in the life videos as all of the start up tasks can be overwhelming. Gives me hope when I can view your videos and get more insight on how to start and run a successful virtual business
Thank you for these videos 😊. I took accounting in high school and enjoyed the bookkeeping process. When my mom passed away my church appointed me bookkeeper, which I have enjoyed doing for 5 years now. I homeschool, but my kids are getting older and don't really need me much anymore, so I was looking for something to do part time from home. I use Excel instead of quicken, but have it set up much the way you are showing here. I will be watching more of your videos to see if this really is something I want to do. Thanks
Thank you for the great content! I haven’t been to your channel in a while and I realized I haven’t clicked on the notification bell. 🤦🏻♀️ now I gotta catch up on all your vids. Thank you, Morgan!
Hello! Love these DITL bookkeeping videos. For the past few months, I have been researching bookkeeping as a career since I'm currently in a career rut. I found your videos and they have been very helpful while I work out my next steps into possibly going into freelance bookkeeping. Keep up the good work!
I really enjoy your videos. After losing my AR Specialist job, because my employer closed her business, you inspired me to freelance my bookkeeping services. I went through the QuickBooks online certification training, but was not familiar enough with the software to pass the certification exam on the first try. I will study some more and try again. Thank you for your help.
I've been bookkeeping off and on for 30+ years, my degree is in accounting. I specialize in the trucking industry and more specifically small trucking/owner operators. I work full time in the trucking industry, just looking to get some side income and fill in some spare time.
I loved this video! i've been trying to find more information about what a career in bookkeeping would look like and this was so informative! thank you :)
Hello, I have been watching your channel for awhile. I received my 4 year accounting degree within the last 5 years, but feel that the world of bookkeeping is more my speed and something I want to pursue as I like the idea of working with smaller businesses. In other words, I would rather swim in a smaller pond. Anyway, thanks for your videos, I appreciate the content and insight that you provide. :)
Can you do a video about new businesses who for example had expenses in 2020 but didn't make any sales until 2021. How do you set up the books to show previous year start up costs? Thanks! Been bookkeeping for 5 years and starting to do it as freelance work
Hi! Is the only software I need to learn for bookkeeping "Quickbooks"? Is that something all clients would have or do I need to learn other things like spreadsheets?
Looking for a career change, so just looming into bookkeeping. My wife mentioned it as an option, as I am good with numbers, good with people, decent with computers and excel, and enjoy learning new things. May just follow through learning bookkeeping as a low cost no loss option (if I decide I do not like it, still a good skill to have and use for things like my rental property). I also know a lot of people with "small buisnesses" (a lot of doctors and some physiod own their own buisness and contract out to a bigger buisness, same goes with welders, and I know a lot of folks in all of these). It also seems like a buisness I could start doing on the side (I currently work 4 days on, 4 days off with my regular job) until I get some traction.
YES. You basically named all the things that I thought when starting out. It sounds like it would be a great fit. You should check out my Free masterclass: Is bookkeeping right for me? finepoints.newzenler.com/fp/beginner-bookkeeping-masterclass-1
Please!!!!!! Can you share that excel file ? I had a test for the city to get a job and it looked just like that spreadsheet . It was asking for formulas and comprehension of the excel formulas. . I failed it , but I’m allow to retake the exam again ..
I am in the process of learning bookkeeping and looking into what could be a potential niche. I love the idea of doing daycares and preschools. Do you think there is enough of a market out there? My concern is that there is so much additional record keeping needed in daycares that they may not want to pay someone that is just focused on the money. What do you think?
Hmm, good question. I'm not super familiar with the particular need for that niche (other than the fact that I mostly find people are always looking for a good bookkeeper! So, I'm sure it's possible). You should search Facebook for bookkeeper groups in that niche (and/or ask in the FB group "successful bookkeeper" ... I bet there will be someone in there that does bookkeeping for preschools/daycares.
You’re crazy with that empty email box that is awesome I think I have something like 66,000 unopened emails that’s pretty much my junk mailbox right LOL

Hey Morgan! Your videos are so helpful to me as someone who is just learning about bookkeeping and starting up my business. One question I have, how do you determine what clients you'd need to do receipt matching for? For example, if it was just the business owner making these purchases for the business, is it required to save/track/match receipts in that instance as well? Thanks!
Hey, can you do a video discussing or just comment about QBO subscriptions and if it is best to bill clients or have your firm billed? I am new to bookkeeping and I don't know how to go about it- so confused. Thanks Morgan you are the best
Never mind I just saw a video of yours discussing this haha! I am going to watch it now. Can you talk about invoicing clients and maybe services to offer if you have not in the past?
Thank you for your videos! I am doing my research, hoping to start my business in 2021. I have two questions. One, how do you handle deadlines? It would seem like all the work needs to be done in the first half of the month. Do you find you work a lot more the first two weeks vs. the last two? Also, I'd love to know where you got your desk! I've been looking for something small and haven't been able to find anything. Thanks again!
Hi Morgan! Your videos are awesome & so informative! My question is on the budget. Is this your standard template for budgeting and tracking for all company’s you service? That’s for sharing your day!
Hi! Thanks so much. That one was pretty specific to the preschool, so it can vary a lot client to client. There is a budgeting function in QBO that I use, and it's usually based on the categories that are already in the chart of accounts. For this example I exported a QB report (based on the budget) into Excel and tweaked it a bit. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for your videos. They are really teaching me a lot. I have a banking background, but have been a homeschool Mom and now ready to start working full time. In the past couple of years I have been the Admin. Assistant for my church including doing their bookkeeping. I really like it better than banking. I feel like it plays to my banking experience, but with an more interesting twist and lots more flexibility. I still don’t feel confident enough to start out on my own without a “mentor” or someone who can work with me and answer question etc. I was thinking about getting an entry level pt time position just to give me some experience and confidence and go up from there. What would you recommend?
Hey Wendy, thanks for watching & sharing your story! I think it's a great way to build confidence -- working for a company for awhile. I did that when I was starting, I worked one day at an office of a nonprofit, and I still was growing and getting some more new clients of my own. I learned a lot of good workflow, tricks, etc. You can ask around in your network, or answer ads for bookkeepers (on craigslist, etc). You'll probably get paid less than when you set your own hourly rate, but still good experience!
Great video! Would you be able to do one with a client that receives income from Square that gets deposited into the account? How would you review/categorize it?
Thanks! Yeah, it would show up saying something with "Square" in QBO, and then you can put it in whichever income category the client needs. Many clients don't need income broken out (money is money), but if they are tracking different types of income sources, you'd just need to create a system for them to communicate where that money came from. Is that helpful?
Hi... Thanks for sharing your daily working life, a very important question about bookkeeping! Are you doing taxation for the clients or you only handling the accounting? Actually, I'm currently outside the USA, but I'm a US CPA, I would like to start my own services inside USA, do you think that I'll be able to do it? Thanks in advance.

I am trying to find information but most people want you to buy their program to get info and I am not sure I trust in that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Colleen
Yes, QBO Accountant! The accountant version is free for your own books, and you only pay once you start getting clients. I made a video about it here: th-cam.com/video/hyKoi3Lhncg/w-d-xo.html
I have a detailed video coming up on that topic in January! I can spend 5-10 hours per client, and right now I choose to work only about 1-2ish days per week. Also check out this video: th-cam.com/video/pePJ-WAHvVA/w-d-xo.html
