I love the reaction, because there's another youtube channel which pretty neatly describes what would have happened if Ripley had left Kaen outside. Basically, another team would have been sent and Ripley wouldn't have been there to save Earth from being overrun by Xenomorphs. This is the best case scenario.
"Aliens" is a _different_ quality. Two very different styles. The newer movie has better special effects, but like "Jaws", "Alien" kept the creature out of sight for much of the movie, so your suspense is much more effective.
I watched this reaction when you first posted it but thought I'd watch it again prior to watching your Aliens reaction. This reaction is superb, from the high pitched squeals, the very rational commentary, and your wonderfully expressive face. Looking forward to Aliens in 20 seconds :-)
@@MovieswithMary It's a fantastic film but the suspense, tension and imaginative gore brought on by some of the best practical effects of all time make it a tough one for somebody who had trouble with Alien :)
@@MovieswithMary Maybe work yourself up to it, by watching incrementaly spookier movies. Starting into spooky films with alien was already a pretty big step.
Before the age of VHS videos, this was the first R Rated film I saw at the theater with my Dad and Cousin when I was 14. This scared the crap out of me but was made so well. Can't wait for you to continue with the next one!
Human beings need to address their natural negative feelings like fear, revenge, etc just as they need to address their positive ones. Horror movies give us a safe way to deal with those feelings. I think at the end you said "We survived" and that's the feeling you are supposed to get... we identify with the heroes and are relieved when they survive because we are them by proxy, so WE have survived this trip into our unconsciousness. People who don't address their negative feelings end up acting on them. That's why when you see a story on the news about some husband and father who suddenly kills his family, the neighbors are always saying "He seemed so nice! Their lives were so perfect. I can't believe he did this." You can also tell a lot about what anxieties and fears a society has during a specific period by its horror films. When the atomic bomb was a big concern in the public mind in the 50s, there were suddenly a lot of horror movies about giant irradiated bugs. When juvenile delinquency was a big problem during the same period, there were suddenly a lot of horror movies featuring teenagers like "I Was a Teenage Werewolf". Later, when sexual mores were being challenged in the 70s, sexuality became a feature of horror films... there was more sex and nudity and sexually promiscuous characters were the first to be killed off. George Romero's zombie films, which served as the inspiration for The Walking Dead, all feature subtexts about some aspect of society as each film was released; racial tensions in Night of the Living Dead (1968), commercialism and convenience culture in Dawn of the Dead (1978), etc. Horror movies can reflect our social anxieties as well as psychological ones. And it is kind of like being on a rollercoaster. Why would anyone want to subject their bodies to the sensations of speeding and falling? It's a safe way to experience those sensations and gives you bit of a thrill, and at the end you feel as though you've survived something.
I’m keeping some of this for the multiple times a year I need to defend my love of horror to certain people lol. And I’ve used the roller coaster comparison because people don’t realize that the “fun” of it is tricking your body into thinking it’s about to experience trauma or certain death lol
A fiction-writing instructor I had once said that we all sit in a circle around the fire, telling stories about the darkness at our backs. This is why some people like these movies. The stories explore the unknown that we know is just over our shoulder at all times.
The scene where the alien pops out of that guy's chest was a genuine surprise to all the other actors, who were not told that was going to happen! That's why they appear to be genuinely shocked - because they were!
Very enjoyable reaction. I would love to see more! Especially the next one Aliens, which is more of an action movie. If you do I recommend the extended version
I really like different tastes of movie 🎥 genres. Maybe its because I love to write, imagine, create things and worlds. As a matter of fact I'm currently working on a screenplay for fun ofcourse, maybe until I'm ready to do something more with it.
I've always loved the spaceship design and the planet surface and catacombs with eggs. And remember no CGI they built all this 42 years ago now. That's amazing still looks great
This movie was very innovative in its direction. The reactions at the dinner were authentic, nobody but the victim knew what was going to happen. They wouldn't let any of the actors see the full grown alien until it was their scene to deal with it. It's still a good movie, but a more audience-focused direction may have made it into a dynamic masterpiece . . . like the sequel turned out to be. (Must watch Aliens!)
Funny thing, the final confrontation actually was gonna have Ripley sucked out into space also. She would’ve pulled herself back in with a safety cable, seal the door, and blast the alien with the engines when it tried to grab on. They didn’t have the budget for it.
This has been one of my favourite reaction videos I’ve seen this far. Really brave of you to watch something you don’t actually want to see. You actually saw more of the movie than I did the first time I watched it back in 1979. Alien wasn’t allowed for people under the age of 15. I was 13 and managed to pass as 15 so I got in. Turned out to be one of the biggest regrets of my life. I was absolutely terrified. Couldn’t sleep properly for 2 weeks. It has eventually become one of my absolute favourite movies of all time.
Good way to think about watching horror is that it’s no different from riding a rollercoaster or skydiving save for the relative safety. The adrenaline, the kick to your heart, it’s part of the enjoyment for horror fans
Back in the 70s the jump scare was a tool like every other. But thanks to the fact that it got so overused since then, it became the whoopy cushion of horror movies and games. And it doesn't even work properly, if used too often in a row. I really wish they would go back to the roots for horror based media. Blake Snyders mantra, is so on point with this movie, and he was right.( "Make it primal. Make it the way a caveman would understand." ) Nowadays its just mediocre cgi and gore.
The whole part when she's trying to figure out the word for women's undergarments and then the jump scare was the highlight of my day. That was hilarious.
This is adorable. I saw Alien art a sleepover when I was 12. There was so much screaming that we set my friend's dogs to barking. But I was thrilled by it, and by your age completely desensitized. Watching this is funny, because you see it with such innocent eyes. Love your reactions!! (And in a second language. Impressed!)
Back in high school, when this movie was first released, I wrote a song to the tune of Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia": Having fun on an outer space trip with the Alien somewhere on the ship I go to take a nap in bed when I wake up something’s eating my head Alien, you’re eating my leg I fall on the floor and I’m dying Alien, go back to your egg I plead and I beg go away, go away
When you say how can they bring it back when they are all dead... the plan was to go into hyper sleep after the dinner, but the alien came out of Kane sooner than when Ash was expecting, that’s why he had the look on his face of concern, he knew what was going to happen. The flight home would have preserved the alien in Kane’s stomach until they landed, so there was a plan since Ash was protecting it for the company.
As a scary movie lover who grew up on these movies, its made to make you feel scared, trapped, alone all the things they are experiencing in the movie. Classic horror movies are where it's at.
When first at the premiere of the film the actors all thought people were leaving, but they were changing seats to the back of the theater out of genuine fear. Hehe
Don't feel to bad, i was fifteen before i had the guts to see it. A masterpiece, i see every other year as a tradition, and think i discover new things every time. It's the lifecycle of the alien that makes up for 90 % of the unpleasentness.
Fun Fact, Lamberts reaction with blood on her face when Hurts chest explodes is real as Ridley Scott the director didn't tell anyone but John Hurt what was going to happen. The original actor who played the Alien was Bolaji Badejo he was 6ft 10" from Nigeria but sadly passed away in the 90's
The movie was originally released with a voice over track from Deckard that explains a lot of what happens but it's really on the nose. There was also a happy ending of them driving away and Deckard explaining that Rachel doesn't have a 4 year life span and has no expiration date.
"Alien" was released in June of 1979, so for my 12th birthday in early July, I convinced one of my parents to take me and my best friend to see it. My friend and I shared a huge tub of popcorn. But the movie provided so much tension that we barely ate. So the moment when Dallas is in the air vents, my buddy and I were so wound up that when Dallas turned and was surprised by the alien, we jump in our seats and covered ourselves in popcorn. I had trouble sleeping the next three nights, with nightmares a'plenty. I think you need a Halloween themed movie that's a lot more lighthearted than this. I recommend "Young Frankenstein," which will provide you with a monster, but also A LOT of laughs!
A funny story I heard from a famous film maker/actor was that as a boy his parents took him to see Star Wars because he begged them to take him. He loved the movie and two years later his parents see another space movie is in the cinema and decide "Well he loved Star Wars, let's take him to see Alien!" Now, today you can see it as a weird mistake but in 1979 they were innocent to what it would really mean for their young son to see Alien and be scared out of his wits. In all honestly I liked this movie. I saw it at about eleven years old and it was scary, but I was always able to divide movies and reality, so I was okay with it all. I love 'well made' horror like this. I think a story with strong character make them worth watching but I hate gore-fest horror that just is meant to shock. This movie has some great actors, Harry Dean Stanton who passed away a few years ago. Never a big actor, but a great supporting actor in movies like 'Alien', 'Cool Hand Luke' or 'Escape From New York'. Then we have the late Sir Ian Holm. From 'Lord of the Rings', to 'Chariots of Fire', a stellar actor. The late Sir John Hurt. Iconic in Orwell's '1984', player the same character with the same death in 'Alien' and the comedy 'Spaceballs', fantastic in 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' and got to be Doctor Who for the Doctors most difficult moment. But we can not forget Sigourney Weaver who was a kick ass female lead in a time when movie makers didn't want women heading up a cast and Sigourney was one of the pivotal actresses in making females bankable action starts.
Ridley Scott was a Commercials director before directing this ... This was only his second movie. Check out the TV commercials he directed before this ! The visuals are insane, still holds up to this day. You can already see in the commercials his mastering of lighting and shadow. A true Director of Photography.

One of the funniest lines from recent Doctor Who: "There's a horror movie called Alien? That's really offensive, no wonder they all keep invading you."
Congratulations, you have had the enormous privilege of enjoying for the first time a jewel of cinema, an innovative, fantastic, epic and terrifying film that made history and that has made you feel, terrify and transmit a lot of sensations. Now I recommend that you see its sequel Aliens, it is almost as good as this one. Greetings and enjoy Aliens.
Loved the reaction. I feel bad experiencing joy at your expense. I love scary movies. We used to reserve a cabin at the lake, then setup a large TV and surround sound speakers. We'd wait till dark then put in a movie like the howling or jaws. Big Fun! I know this was hard for you but thank you for taking me back to my younger days.
Totally sharing this on my Facebook and subscribing...I love horror movies, but your very practical "leave him there" sensibility was spot on...lol. I remember seeing the posters of the adult Alien when it came out...I was like 6 years old then. It terrified me, but I still wanted to look at it...it was fascinating while deadly. Next, tackle the sequel...Aliens. Very different vibe (sci-fi action) so I'd be curious how you felt after seeing Ripley face the alien again in a different scenario.
For the scene where the alien comes out of Kane's chest, none of the actors knew what was going to happen except for John Hurt of course. So their reactions are genuine (especially Lambert). Ridley Scott the director wanted the crew to be thought of as "truck drivers in space", which is why they smoke cigarettes, dress plainly, etc.
Your question about why people like scary movies is exactly how I feel about spicy food. Just replace all the "scary movies" in that with "spicy food" 😂
@Movies with Mary our family is having some tough time the last few weeks. I really needed something to help me escape just for a bit. This Was Awesome. Exactly What I Needed. I am indebted to you for your sacrifice.
Hey, Marijchu. This is one of the greatest horror films of all time. Absolutely see the SPECIAL EDITION of Aliens as soon as possible!!!!!! Ridley Scott kept the entire cast in the dark about the famous CHESTBURSTING scene except for John Hurt. Their reactions were absolutely genuine and mirrored the audience's response! Squeamish Veronica Cartwright got sprayed by fake blood and fell over backward. They only filmed the scene twice. It remains one of the most ICONIC IN CINEMA HISTORY! The PACING is deliberately slow at the beginning to acquaint the audience with the ship's geography, to demonstrate authentic-looking take-offs, landings and space travel, to familiarize the audience with the crew, to establish the threat posed by the creature and to generate suspense with the mystery of the derelict craft. There's a lot of rich character humor and foreshadowing in those crew interaction scenes as well as a subtext about this future society being a corporate dystopia. The Swiss artist, H.R. Giger, who designed the xenomorph tapped into insectoid and reptilian features that evoke primal fear. The final product is an iconic movie monster that is pure NIGHTMARE FUEL! His artwork is very bizarre, erotic and has a distinctive look called Giger-esque. The creature's life-cycle and biology is explored throughout the series. By the way, the alien's retractable inner jaw is found in nature in a deep-sea fish! THE WEYLAND-YUTANI COMPANY is an international conglomerate involved in robotics, interstellar travel and terra-forming. They have a stake in every colony world and are basically the 22nd-century version of the British East India Company of the 17th-19th-centuries. They are a ruthless corporation looking to exploit or weaponize the xenomorph for profit regardless of the negative consequences. The Company is the TRUE VILLAIN of all the Alien movies. In the AvP films, you actually meet the company founders before their merger, Mr. Weyland and Ms. Yutani. This crew is not a group of explorers, scientists or colonists. They're just SPACE TRUCKERS hauling rocks. This was a First Contact situation they were wholly unqualified for. Hence, all the bumbling and bad judgment calls. Their chief concerns were company policy and pay inequity. Ripley was the only one with the willingness to make difficult command decisions that would have saved all their lives except for Kane's had she not been undermined by Ash. Of course, Ash was privy to a secret corporate mandate. Parker is MY FAVORITE supporting character! Yaphet Kotto played him to the hilt! He's the blue collar EVERYMAN who just cares about payday and who enjoys deliberately antagonizing his superiors but ends up sacrificing himself for a fellow employee. Some viewers strongly believe the alien raped Lambert! This is nonsense. The PREHENSILE TAIL probably drew her closer to itself so it could mouth-punch her with the retractable jaw. Drones incapacitate victims for hosting embryos or for food. Those viewers aren't mistaken for perceiving phallic eroticism, though, as that was Scott's intent. The giant elephant-headed alien pilot of the derelict spacecraft is one of the GREAT MYSTERIES of the franchise. Was he a zoologist, a biowarfare specialist, an exterminator, a trader in exotic organisms, a waste disposal tech or a trucker like Ripley's crew? No one knows. The prequels attempted to unsatisfyingly answer the question claiming his species designed the alien. The elephant head was just a helmet. Sigourney Weaver became a FEMINIST ICON because of this movie. Ripley is one in a long line of strong female characters that have been showcased in sci-fi and fantasy dating back to Edgar Rice Burroughs' Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Mars! There is an insistence from certain quarters that fanboys of sci-fi and fantasy are anti-female who require the franchises that shaped them be corrected to reflect contemporary norms. It is an inane fallacy perpetuated by people who know nothing of the properties they are dismantling. There's not a single man I know who wouldn't follow Ripley into hell. Speaking of Dejah Thoris, I'd love to see you react to the best adaptation of Burroughs' Martian stories by seeing JOHN CARTER (A Princess of Mars) from 2012 on Disney+.
Quality 🔼 trivia .., Marred, by only 1 flaw. Giger, created the 🎨 style.., NoT the Xenomorph., Difference by several years of intellectual property., It's legal issue had held up production for awhile. Otherwise O'Bannon & Syd, would've gotten more credit.

"Aliens" is a _different_ quality. Two very different styles. The newer movie has better special effects, but like "Jaws", "Alien" kept the creature out of sight for much of the movie, so your suspense is much more effective.

@@MovieswithMary It's a fantastic film but the suspense, tension and imaginative gore brought on by some of the best practical effects of all time make it a tough one for somebody who had trouble with Alien :)
@@MovieswithMary The creature blood and gore effects will seriously make you vom!😱🤢🤮
Guys don't scare her off. She might actually not react to it.
I can't believe he did this."
You can also tell a lot about what anxieties and fears a society has during a specific period by its horror films.
Thank you for typing this.

Don’t worry. They only come out at night. Mostly.
Aliens is a great movie but when it comes down to it, it's just another generic action movie. Alien IS a masterpiece exactly the way it is.
As many previous comments undoubtedly say - Time for the sequel - Aliens!!!
The ship got messed up when they were landing because one of the landing legs was on a rock that crumbled under the weight
Funny thing, the final confrontation actually was gonna have Ripley sucked out into space also. She would’ve pulled herself back in with a safety cable, seal the door, and blast the alien with the engines when it tried to grab on.
They didn’t have the budget for it.
Aliens truly is a must follow up.
"How can you bring it back if you're all dead?" Realist question EVER.
Good way to think about watching horror is that it’s no different from riding a rollercoaster or skydiving save for the relative safety. The adrenaline, the kick to your heart, it’s part of the enjoyment for horror fans
“Is it jumpscares? Is it gross?”
😈
One does not rule out the other ...
@@Cenindo correct
Back in the 70s the jump scare was a tool like every other. But thanks to the fact that it got so overused since then, it became the whoopy cushion of horror movies and games. And it doesn't even work properly, if used too often in a row. I really wish they would go back to the roots for horror based media. Blake Snyders mantra, is so on point with this movie, and he was right.( "Make it primal. Make it the way a caveman would understand." ) Nowadays its just mediocre cgi and gore.
This is by far the best most honest reaction to a movie I have ever seen. Subscribed.
You'll like Aliens better because it fleshes out Ripley's character so much more
The whole part when she's trying to figure out the word for women's undergarments and then the jump scare was the highlight of my day.
Impressed!)
Marijchu: "I never watch scary movies, Im so jumpy Im so screamy.
Me: Oboy here we go tihihiii
Back in high school, when this movie was first released, I wrote a song to the tune of Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia":
Having fun on an outer space trip
with the Alien somewhere on the ship
I go to take a nap in bed
when I wake up something’s eating my head
Alien, you’re eating my leg
I fall on the floor and I’m dying
Alien, go back to your egg
I plead and I beg
go away, go away
not bad
When you say how can they bring it back when they are all dead... the plan was to go into hyper sleep after the dinner, but the alien came out of Kane sooner than when Ash was expecting, that’s why he had the look on his face of concern, he knew what was going to happen. The flight home would have preserved the alien in Kane’s stomach until they landed, so there was a plan since Ash was protecting it for the company.
Aaaah, so his face was not 'I am dead', his face was 'omg no, not yet!' :D Thank you for clarifying
@@MovieswithMary Sure. 😊👍
The best part of watching a scary movie is watching someone like you watch it. LOL.
I think “the Others” would be good for her. I think it covers the Halloween theme without being the grotesque and scary type.
Fantastic 🍿🎆 tale!
🙋🏻♂️👍👍
1:45 You haven't even started the movie yet and I adore you already.

I would be the one getting my cat..... and possibly dying but nah I love my cat and I would kick ass for them
I don't know why but there's something weirdly and cutely funny about 9:38.
"Ahh, Gyahd!" "Ahh my Gott!"
The creature Ash is watching on the monitor when Ripley interrupts him is the chestburster growing 👍
Re Ash attacking Ripley... "Smack his face, kick him in the nuts!" Spoken like a strong woman! 👏
