Very nice video as I am venturing into the indigo vat world soon. I just wat to know if one can use a glavanised steel drum as a Vat? Cannot seem to gete any clear answers from anyone!! Will it erode it or is it ok to use for extended periods?
Hi I just took a class yesterday and she use the indigo and made it into a thick paste didn’t just poured into the boiling hot water then she also used a lie and she use fructose with the things that you use be in place of the law and the photos thank you so much
Fructose is the reducing agent in this case I’m also noticing she is using oxygenated indigo if you get the green stuff straight from the leaves you have to oxygenate it yourself. Still doable but much easier if it is already oxygenated, I put the cat in
Do you know how to safely get indigo out of wool? I dyed my hair with it and am trying to figure out how to get it out. Please help I'm so devastated right now. I didn't know it was so permanent
I have watched many videos on how to make an indigo vat and majority of them say to let the vat sit for an hour after mixing. I recently purchased some natural blend indigo from Japan, and the instructions say it is ready to use immediately after mixing. I'm left confused- do I follow their instructions or the instructions I keep finding on TH-cam and the internet? Is it because I have a different type of indigo dye?
No. This is a debate that is not talked about much. But Jaquard pre-reduced indigo is a chemically constructed indigo substance. And the thiox ingredient is also very bad for the environments for should be handed with a mask and gloves. Being that this is NOT a natural indigo vat, this should not be poured into soil when finished because it will harm the plants.
@@jason_g25 hi im really hoping you can help me. I can't find all natural ingredients to make a vat - im worried about pouring what i have, soda ash and jacquared indigo into the yard. what can i use thats all natural do you have any idea?
Thank you for your video. Wouldn't you also wear a dust mask when working with powders?
You may want to just to be safe!
Why do you consider lye toxic? It's caustic, not toxic. Or is there some chemical reaction with the other ingredients that make it toxic?
Most people don’t understand the difference between toxic and caustic. Toxic they understand but often caustic is a new word for them.

Do you teach what chemicals (or not) to do indigo dye with naturally? Want to do my toddler's clothes and not so keen on things that are unsafe. Thx!
I have soaping indigo powder, can I use that?
if i’m using soda ash do i still need to wash my garments before dying?

Can I use caustic soda flakes?
If I use regular Indigo powder, will it take longer than an hour for the vat to be ready?
can you paint on indigo to the fabric instead of dipping the fabric into the vat?
Can you use a plastic bucket? It does the vessel have to be metal?
The vessel can be anything. 5 gallon buckets are usually the best with an air tight lid. I use a good grade screw on lid from Home Depot
"teaching indigo" ? Is that the name of the indigo i need to use? where to buy it?
Can sodium bicarbonate (baking soda )take the role of soda ash ??
no, not basic enough
You need to bake the baking soda to create soda ash.
Fantastic video!
Love this video!
Soda ash is also toxic
what is thiox?
Thiourea Dioxide
Plz. 1. Indgo 2-???? 3-????? Nemes
S. L. R indgo crops indigo powdar, thiox is a thing that depletes oxygen, Soda ash changes the ph.
