This is probably the Cadillac of shallow well hand pumps because it can force water above the pump to a gravity tank in the attic or second floor. You can pump to fill the tank periodically, and store water up high. All you have to do most of the time is open the tap and you have running water coming down from your tank.
I live near Lehmans and I visit the store often, they are a great source of information since they deal with the Amish and their needs everyday. They have a wonderful kitchen department!
If you have friends that still use the first pump tell them to grind a groove across the under side of the spout (from side to side), this will stop most of the problem you stated.
Yes...that is the same theory of having that groove on the underside of the exterior window sill...it stops the water from draining back and causing a mess or damage. Jesus bless.
we have a pump set up like you first had. but as we are putting our point in for our well this year(we are getting water from the spring 2 miles away). cant wait to get a pump set up in the house. we are 2 years this month in our off grid life. i will look into this pump for when we get water set up to our camp. thanks for sharing Jaime
Thank You for the information, Jamie. I was planning on getting one of the Green Tough type pitcher pumps, not now. I will just haul my water longer until I have the money saved for the type that you have there. Thank You again!
Good information as always. Thanks guys. Hope to make it up to your place soon. Will be traveling to visit my brother in law just down the street from you soon. Take care. Jerry of Pine Meadows Hobby Farm.
So do you know if there’s a way to convert a pump to work in a regular home as a sink faucet? I really love the look of the pump but I live in a modern house with city water.
What about using a small electric pump that can run off solar and slowly pump water up to a storage tank (on the roof or elevated) so that you have water pressure and on demand water without pumping? Plus you would still have the regular kitchen pump if necessary.
Elevated tanks need to be insulated or heating to prevent freezing in many areas. Places like NYC use the steam pipes that heat the city to keep the roof top tanks from freezing. To get an elevated tank without the need to heat or insulate it you need to put it into a hill higher then the home location to let the soil be both insulation and heating. Then again that can get insane as you need around 75-80 feet of drop just to get 35psi at the tap due to resistance and bends.
Auto mechanics should be designing cars and truck mechanics should be designing trucks and like you said this pump was designed b someone that used a pump before and knew exactly how to design it. Worth the money in the long run, you bet.
David Smith I agree with you 100%... except I've learned that modern mechanics or engineers (strictly designing) will purposely design vehicles that don't last or only so long (parts wise). Also making them harder to work on attempting to go more proprietary. This is what they consider modern ingenuity. Sad, I say. Not like the old US where things seemed to last forever. 😕
Thank you for talking about this pump, I've been looking at Lehmans and Bison pumps because although we have an electric pump I want a hand pump for emergency access to our well. Something I think all well installations should come with IMO! We have an outside well head that I can build a pump mount over and I hope to get one of these pumps In The next few months.
Tell us where you get your main water supply from, how do you get water to the pump straight over the kitchen sink,I've always wondered how people got the water pumps directly over the sink, did they dig a well first then build around the well or what, those houses are mostly gone now l,this wad common when there was no electric.
I really like your channel. It's informative and fun... My only suggestion is Change the green screen. I sat that because when I subscribed the season 3 teaser pages only had the season 3 green screen ...and altho impressive art wise it had no tease factor. unlike the previous season screen...
MISTY AND BRENT OFF THE GRID LIVING I would say no, because the city water is essentially already being pumped for you. The city/county/on grid water is pressurized, which is why you turn the spigot on, the water just runs out.
Farm Alarm She explained that it's for priming, if needed, instead of having to prime near top of pump cylinder. Makes it all easier with less possible damage at the pump cylinder (where lever shafts attaches)
Hi Jamie, I love watching you guys. I love your head coverings. I would love to see a video about them. How to wear them and how to keep them in place.
Nice, it looks like a $300 pump, no doubt. Amish quality is top notch. Did you get extra leather just in case you need to replace later? Or is that something you can fabricate on your own if need be?
you do realize you could have moved that pump back a couple inches from the sink and piped the nozzle down through the counter and around to feed a ordinary sink type faucet and feed both sink basins.
Wow ok you know you could have tied a string around the first pitcher pump around the spout and left a tail pice hanging down into the sink when you would pump the water and a little bit would run back along the bottom side of the spout it would hit the string and because of surface tension run down the little tail piece of string and into the sink

A real lady..so pleased with her pump providing a basic need..I have hope :)

That's one way to get pumped up on homesteading! Keep pumping out the great videos!
Now that's a wonderful video. Thanks Jamie or your trials and failures and the sweet sound of success.
my grandma's sink had a long drain board with the pump installed and and drips went in the sink.

I saw this video a while ago and am very happy to have found it again. Thank you for all of your videos. Very helpful.
That looks like a good pump we have been shopping around for one but after watching this we need to just save up for this one Thanks
I really liked this video, I didn't realize there were good and bad pitcher pumps. Good to know when I go shopping for mine!
jUST wanted to find an old video to revisit your beautiful wife. She was a Treasure!!!! Adorable!

A decent kitchen faucet is about $300.00. Something used every day is worth spending some money on.
I have a pitcher pump that came with a rubber flapper and piston ring. I was able to replace them both with leather.
Looking forward to trying out the pump I got!
Does ur pipe freeze in the winter???
Good information as always. Thanks guys. Hope to make it up to your place soon. Will be traveling to visit my brother in law just down the street from you soon. Take care.
Jerry of Pine Meadows Hobby Farm.
I'm interested in knowing where the water is pumped from, as well.
Pump is made by Heller Adler. Been around since 1886
Plus it's a good looking pump too. Thanks. ; )
miss you

How about just a well pump on solar?
How do you take a shit if this is your only source of water
Where are you pumping the water from? Shallow well or rain water collection?
Water is pumped from a water tank that is near the house.
How does the water get to the water tank? Rainwater collection? I would like to have a hand pump in the house, trying to figure that all out...
you are so cute and so fun to listen to! thank you for this info, as i am researching kitchen set up for my future cabin. you guys are great!
Great information! Thank you for sharing.
Wow! AWESOME review! Thanks so much! It will most likely be the one I get but if not, at least I know what features to look for.
Our of grid cabin goes without heat in the winter between visits. Sometimes it gets below freezing. Does this pump self drain?
I follow the buy once, cry once philosophy. I buy the best product available even if I have to take a long time to save up for it.
I want to buy this pump but I will have to install it myself and I'm not sure how to go about it can you recommend a video how to install
Ty ty for info, so glad I subbed
Having an end you can screw a hose on is what most homesteaders need so as to avoid the pail hauling.
What is the brand name of this pump? Where did you purchase it? Thanks
Is there a link to where I can purchase a pump like this one?
should have made a water tower to feed into the house. small solar pump to fill the tower or just a hand pump and go pump once a week to fill it.
Auto mechanics should be designing cars and truck mechanics should be designing trucks and like you said this pump was designed b someone that used a pump before and knew exactly how to design it. Worth the money in the long run, you bet.

For an outside pumpe, we highly recommend the Simple Pump. We've been using it for years. Video coming up on that shortly!
That would be great! Look forward to hearing about it.
An American Homestead Good info, Thanks. I'm interested in this for a back up indoor water source. I'd like to know your thoughts on the Bison.
Do you have a video showing how I hook up the pump to the well?
Tell us where you get your main water supply from, how do you get water to the pump straight over the kitchen sink,I've always wondered how people got the water pumps directly over the sink, did they dig a well first then build around the well or what, those houses are mostly gone now l,this wad common when there was no electric.
Nice video, Great advice. How about a link where you got that. I went to Lehman's website & could not find the one you have there.
OTGNewbie not sure if you still need it but here ya go... www.lehmans.com/product/pressurized-sealed-top-water-pump/

wow, what a great video and you did such a good job on it,i subed.
7:09 "That money was WELL spent"! Get it? "Well" spent!
Even better thanks!
we are still hooked up to county water right now, can this be installed and used with this type of grid water?
MISTY AND BRENT OFF THE GRID LIVING I would say no, because the city water is essentially already being pumped for you. The city/county/on grid water is pressurized, which is why you turn the spigot on, the water just runs out.
What is the small vertical chamber that is just before the exit spout? some sort of check valve? Thanks

Cuba Rodriguez, I went back and watched that part, and you are correct, she definitely did explain that, I Totally missed that! lol. thanks.
Farm Alarm Hey, no problem. Throughout the video, that's what I wondered too, until she answered that pesky question at the end. 😄
How do you get hot water ?
How did you get your well ?
Hi Jamie,

courtneybrad fabricate leather? By raising cattle I suppose. Cut a replacement from locally sourced leather? You betcha
300 isn't bad at all, the regular faucet in our kitchen was more than that. this is a daily use item.
What is the name of the Pump, and can you put a link to where to get one?
Heller Aller Double-Acting Hand Pitcher Pump with Brass Cylinder and Bronze Bib
Didn't find at Lemans. What is the brand name?
Lenn Wages I found it right away. SKU# 291682
www.lehmans.com/product/pressurized-sealed-top-water-pump
its a Heller Adler pump.
Link please
you do realize you could have moved that pump back a couple inches from the sink and piped the nozzle down through the counter and around to feed a ordinary sink type faucet and feed both sink basins.
how do u get Hot water??
Jimisuec Boil it on the stove, I'd guess.

This appears to be the pump in the video:
hitzer.com/our-products/water-pumps/model-phb-pitcher-pump
I have found that you usually get what you pay for.
What about the shower??
pump shy lol
Are you still happy with pump?
You literally had the green pump for 24 hours, you have no way of knowing if the rubber could have softened
Buy an RV electric pump get a 12 volt battery & a solar charger. You would have a good source of water with the flip of a switch.
No link to the pump? Really guys? Smh... lol
