Thank you so much for this tutorial! I made my daughter's ballet leotard out of black stretch velvet, based off her own body measurements and your detailed video. It turned out beautifully and fits her very well. Thank you for helping me be more creative!
I've been sewing and designing for many years, mainly in stable woven fabrics. Decided to experiment using my own measures for this draft and it worked out very well, using lycra with 20% spandex. The armhole is a little tight for a sleeveless version, but perfect for the sleeved one. Thankyou
Why have I not found you earlier :-). I've been using bought basic patterns and then re-adjusted until I got a good fit. Today, I used you video, measured, drafted and made my daughter's leotard in 4 hours. It went straight from the needle onto her body and to dance class with minutes to spare and a fantastic fit to boot!! Thank you ever so much for making it so simple, quick and easy to understand and achieve.
For me, the armholes were too small and had to adjust it. Also it offers really good bottom coverage. You can adjust that too if it covers too much! It's really easy to follow! Thank you sooo much!
Thank you for sharing. My pattern adjustments for a child as per the video have sharp lines rather than curved for the underarms (for example). Is this correct?
Hola soy de Chile muchas gracias por su videos ,mi hija está en PATINAJE y quiero hacerle yo sus trajes apesar del idioma se entiende bien su explicación agradecida de todo el vídeo mil bendiciones
This is a wonderful video. I have been altering ready-made patterns for years but this seems perfect for what I need now. Thank You! I need to make some Ballroom and Latin dance attire connected to a bodysuit. I love the patterns behind you in the video...The blue dress and the pink dress. Are they available or do you have a video on their construction? Many have asked for a skating dress video that has a skirt attached ....I would be interested as well. Can't wait to experiment because I am not a usual fit.....short....asian on the top and Italian on the bottom Ha HA.....so you can visualize the figure challenge!
I'm planning to make a ballroom dress for my adult daughter. I used to make all her dresses when she went into dancing from 5-year old to 13-year old. Now it seems that they make also the traditonal ballroom dresses on a leotard, don't they?
Hi, I love your tutorials! I have a question about recalculating body measurements. Am I supposed to recalculate the Waist and Hip measurements for the bodysuit? If so how much? Your other tutorial #11 How To Make Dance Costumes say to take 10% off waist and hips. Many Thanks
@@Thedancerschoice Thank you! So to confirm. When drawing up this Basic Pattern I need to recalculate to 85% of the Bust, 90% of the Waist and Hips and 95% of the Shoulder Width, Front Width and Girth? Is it trial and error that gets these measurements for you? Many Thanks in advance!
What are the concerns of applying a non stretch applique to a figure skating dress? I understand that the stretch in those areas will be limited but that is the only thing I am sure of. I am very new to sewing stretch fabrics and appreciate all of the knowledge you have and share. Thank you in advance for your consideration to reply.
Great vedio. I made a skating dress by learning from your vedio. Could you make a vedio on how to make matching sleeve to sleeve hole(not using a pattern). Or if you have one, could you give me the link?
You‘re so Great. I Love you‘re Videos. Never could make a Pattern on my own. Now i can do because of you. Thank you thank you Very very much. Please Go on 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😘😘😘
I don't know size 4 measurements. please check out my video #29 th-cam.com/video/kIei7oGxZUo/w-d-xo.html. That video will show you how to take measuring by yourself.
I am making a leotard pattern for my daughter who is a "tween, she is 14, 58" tall, 85 pounds. You add 8 cm for adults and 6 cm for children, which would I pick for my daughter?
Most of the stretching of the garment will occur horizontally, around the circumference of the person. Since there are holes in the top and bottom for arms and legs, there's nothing to hold the fabric at either end and stretch the garment vertically. So, if you made it shorter, you'd get a higher leg line and lower armscye.
I tried to follow but somehow my pattern looks totally different. My bust line is much closer to the top line and the front width line is not shorter than the line for the shoulders. Don't know if that's normal or what I did wrong
I did and I found out, that I took wrong front measurements (measured till the armpits, so it was too long). I hope it works now! Thanks for your fast reply
I am trying to make this pattern for a child, my back length is 26.5cm and my side seam is 20cm. it doesn't leave much room even for the 6cm collar area.
I visited the page www.thedancerschoice.com and clicked on "contact us for order questions". I wish to write to you but there is only "Oops! That page can’t be found. Nothing was found at this location. Try searching, or check out the links below. " I didn´t found an address. (Sorry for my bad english).
Thank you for this tutorial. Being honest, going though it, it is a nightmare as you do not show all measurements on the paper. I have no idea about the distance between two first lines and as a result my pattern is incorrectly done. What a pity, I reallly enjoy your work.
Actually she does show the distance measurement just a few steps later. so when I took my notes I switched the order so I knew how much distance etc. If you need help I would be glad to help!
This is the only tutorial on TH-cam that I was able to follow along with and actually create a working pattern. Great video and thank you so much!
Mee too. But the arm and leg holes a bit tight

Hi Gini, for 20% stretch I use the values 0,8 and 0,9. I prefer skin tight. Is this what you did?

Such a helpful tutorial on drawing a leotard pattern! It is good to see the measurements for doing the curve, too.
Love this video... Could you please let me know how can I do a long sleeve pattern?.. tks a lot
Great Video ! can you teach us how to graduate a basic leotard pattern to obtain other sizes, also a size chart for pattern making
Your videos are very helpful. I’m teaching myself how to do ice skating costumes for my daughter and this video is great. Thanks
Thank you so much for the tutorial as I'm making a dress for my niece in ice skating!
Thank you very much. This video helped me a lot! I only use 80% and 90% for Carvico Lycra. Gives a tighter fit.
this is so hard to follow I wish you gave ex. on what sizes you did so it can be easier 😣
Auntie, you're the greatest thing ever

Great tutorial, worked perfectly. Could you please do a leotard for a man? Specifically for a Latin shirt.
This video was so helpful! Thank you!!!
Hi Genie, lovely tutorial. Could you tell, if your pattern is high cut or low cut around the thigh?
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial!💖 Will the recalculation of the measurements be the same percentage for plus sizes?
Yes 😊

When using spandex fabric we have to take out 10% off the body measurements.

Thanks for this tutorial! It's amazing, and you make all the process so easy to understand it and do it! 💚
Does this pattern include a seam allowance? If so, how much? If not, how much do we need to add? Great video-thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing!
Is there anyway to do long sleeves on the dress?
Thank you SO MUCH! It seems quite clear for me, who can not sew)) will use you instructions

I think if you put non stretch appliqués around collar and top of the chest will be ok. don't put too much of them horizontally.
Thank you :) This helped me a lot. Are you still going to do a tutorial on ballet tutus? :)
It was very good, I made it for my doughter
this video is pure gold! ❤
Thank you!
Great vedio. I made a skating dress by learning from your vedio.

do i need to add seam allowance or not?
Thank you 😊
What’s the seam allowance on this ? 😊
thank you so much! this is very helpful
will this work for gymnastics leotards?
Great video....but I didn't get how to measure for the girth length...just didn't catch it on
amazing, thank you so much!!
thank you
Why were these particular stretch percentage use? I am new to sewing 🙂
You‘re so Great. I Love you‘re Videos. Never could make a Pattern on my own. Now i can do because of you. Thank you thank you Very very much. Please Go on 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😘😘😘
It`s a great tutorial but can you explain, from which point I have to draw 1/2 front width? It`s not at the bust line, it`s higher.
I think that 4cm up from bust line.
I had the same problem. I am confused by Bust and Front Width lines. It results in an arm hole too small 🧐
Thanks for this video it's helpful can you make a vedio about beach dress
Will try
Love your video! Do you also have experience with making leotard for pregnant women?
Hello, nice tutorial but I’m quite tall and my girth measurement in inches is 64 will this pattern work for me or not
For a 12 years old girl of 163 cm should I use the children's version or the adult version?
JustmeNici id say adults version probably as I’m 18 and only 160cm but would do the adults version - hope that helps
Such a great video! Thank you for sharing 😀 Do yo hace measuments to make this for example in a size 12 for Girls?
great video, can you show how to make unitard with legs
Belle Goh agree!!!
What is the side seem measurements, it says it but does not tell you what measurement to use ...
Hi. How can I make these leotard blocks for the full range of us girls and women’s xs s m l xl?
why did we need the girth from shoulder to crotch?
Nice video
I don’t get the measurement at 4:21 because 1/2 front width is past the top line for mine I don’t think I did it right...
Is there a standard back length, shoulder length, and side length I can use for a womans size 4?
I don't know size 4 measurements. please check out my video #29 th-cam.com/video/kIei7oGxZUo/w-d-xo.html. That video will show you how to take measuring by yourself.

I'm making this for a 3 year old... but the bust line is hitting the collar, what can I do ? do I need to adjust the collar size ?
Yes, you can adjust the collar size. measure 6cm from top shoulder for children's color depth. I'll make a children's leotard patten video in July.
Why don't we change back length or side seam measurements? If we use a 4-way stretch material should we?
Most of the stretching of the garment will occur horizontally, around the circumference of the person. Since there are holes in the top and bottom for arms and legs, there's nothing to hold the fabric at either end and stretch the garment vertically. How long is the centre back line? Thanks
you have to take your back length measurements.
Hepfull by I need change more things in collar for kids patterne. But sleeve pattern not working :(
Where could I get a chart with general measurements to sew girls and women ‘s leotards?
Do you know of a sewing blog for ballet dance wear?
sorry, I din't have chart of general measurements. I don't know any sewing blog for ballet dance wear.
when you say measure twice how do I know where the second measurement is ?
Measure second time from the same line as first time to make the two lines parallel(equal distance).
ok thankyou

Sure I'll post long sleeves leotard video soon.
Hi Could you please make a video on how to make a figure skating dress for boys? Thankssssssssssss!
Good idea, I'll make a video in the future.
I tried to follow but somehow my pattern looks totally different. My bust line is much closer to the top line and the front width line is not shorter than the line for the shoulders. Don't know if that's normal or what I did wrong
I think that first thing you have to check out your body measurements carefully.
I did and I found out, that I took wrong front measurements (measured till the armpits, so it was too long). I hope it works now! Thanks for your fast reply
It worked, yay! Thank you very much. Can you make a video how to extend the short sleeves to long sleeves? A long sleeve leotard would be cool
Sure, I'll make a long sleeve leotard video in the future.
En español como hacer un leotardo basico
