Bts's success in the western industry came about accidentally. It was unplanned. It was organic. They just were genuine and talented enough to resonate with fans to breakthrough all music industries. Whereas kpop companies are debuting groups that have an entire "road to bts's success" mind map drawn out with each of that groups steps already planned for them. Success will happen if you're lucky and it wont if you're not. But kpop companies keep trying to control how much success each of their groups has rather than it just happening naturally. Heck bts didn't even try to break into the western/US market. It literally happened because of their fans, not because of a powerful label pushing them with media play or payola.
Instead of saying "accidentally" or "unplanned", perhaps it is more accurate to say that their success has been achieved OUTSIDE the usual kpop hierarchical and prejudicial power structures.

I mostly agree with your comment but I wouldn't say it happened accidentally or because they were lucky, they kind of diminishes their hard work. Because that's what it comes down to - hard work and perseverance but the reason they stood out and became more successful than every other kpop act is because they are genuine, likable, talented people. And in my opinion, their music and their performances really are much better than those of other groups. It wasn't luck, they are just better.
@@Manueelaa that and they not only write their own music - a few Idol groups before them actually were very involved, too - it is that their music has a message. The music may have represented SK youth but it is also a very common experience globaly.
@@HailToTheMeep technically not was accidental though. Which if anything is more a compliment because they weren’t even focusing on trying to dominate in the west it just happened that way, compare that to all the artists clawing to rise in the west.

I don’t want to highlight this, but mostly all artists from HYBE really shines coz their songs and music is totally different, it’s not like just listening to another kpop song, but something that makes you keep on listening and always remember that there are songs from them that unique and I need to hear it again. And, I want them to be known as themselves, Seventeen as Seventeen, Les Serafim as Les Serafim and so on. Their history should be on their own name

I think the point which most people miss with this video is Boracity is NOT saying those other groups are flops or that they have bad music. All Boracity is saying is they're so focused on trying to be the next BTS that they're forgetting they don't need to be the next BTS to go big!
the personality and talents of the individual members as well as the INSANE chemistry and bond they have, can't be replicated "manualy". it's something that they put into their music as well. that's the core reason why they are extremely likable.
you can take all the most talented professionals and throw all the money in the world on a group, you won't get the next BTS. if ever there will be a "next bts" it will happen organically, like it did with BTS themselves.

Exactly they should let their artists be their own selves, let them cultivate their own identity... it wasn't even against the artists but rather their label and the way they treat this as competition instead of staying in their own lanes and let the artists build their own narratives!
Which is redefining or maybe expanding the boundaries of what the kpop industry now is! When you go back to Kpop 1st generation, Seo Taji they were artists, did social commentaries in their lyrics and empowered the youth, then SM gave Kpop this very polished/ strict training nature. It has its pros and cons but this can never work in the West!
Groups in that followed more the road of Seo Taji like Epik High and then BTS can resonate with ppl on the long term in the west! Now that BTS made that road groups and labels should be encouraged as she said to loosen up that control, and I see ut happening a bit, but it should only be to create their own story instead of trying to play catch-up with someone else's story...
yes, you’re right about blackpink having a big fandom, they shouldn’t need the media play so it kind of makes you think if they’re really involved in what the media publishes, but once you see how HARD their companies attempt to make it look like they are as popular as bts it stops being a crazy idea. blackpink is big in numbers but not even half as big when it is compared to bts’ numbers, and don’t even get me started on impact, bc bts’ impact surpasses even some of the western biggest acts. bts started gaining interest from the west once they saw how big they were (through threir real, organic achievements), that’s why these k-companies figured they would just make everyone believe they are as popular as them to be on the spotlight

Facts
the difference between bts and other k pop groups is they are involved in their music. they write, compose and produce. they also have a say in which song they sing if they don't write it because they want everything they put out to be authentically them. as opposed to a lot of k pop groups where everything is done for them and they just follow. many don't speak out about things even if they disagree , unless the company says they can. bts does say what they need to say and when but are still respectful and humble. Obviously there are exceptions but i believe its seen in the more independent artists than k pop artists. Hopefully Hybe continues honoring the groups and artists they sign. Respecting them and letting them shine musically without making them into something that’s not authentically them

Seventeen was perhaps even more self-made than BTS - even before Big Hit bought Pledis - and where on the way to the top back than (I sincerly believe that their label was just not good at marketing them and good with money) I don't evenlisten to their music but that is still true.
Even Le Sserafim - absolutly new to the scene - are involved in music writing. That new solo song seems very real.
Personally I believe that in most of the other labels senority gives more freedom in creation. (see also bby gang mag "you are wrong about K-pop")
That said Stray Kids are also writing their own music and are creating their way in the market - using opportunities that BTS success gives them. Again an act I'm not listening to. (the media-play may be bad but I don't think the group itself is)
I think the market is becoming better - but even BTS gives credit to acts like BigBang - who did Hiphop and wrote some of their own music.

I like big bang but prefer independent artists better. However i don’t know when bts crawled into my soul and set up residence. They’ve been in my heart ever since. Which shocked this head banger lol

I've been an army since 2016, but I knew k-pop way before (probably since 2011) but I was not that deep into the industry until I met BTS . Anyways, I've noticed all these changes in the industry, the lack of originality and how BTS are trendsetters. A lot of things have changed, specially in 2017 when BTS got even more popular globally.
I think that since they won that BBMAs award the other k-pop companies started to focusing more in the numbers and how to achieved what BTS did rather than music. Of course there's still a lot of good songs in k-pop but you know what I mean.
BTS is the standard and they paved the way for sure! (You should react to that video of Boracity talking about it because it's really good)
The next BTS is BTS.. actually, right now the solos that they have been releasing lately are ending BTS lol
What I love the most about Bangtan is their artistry and how they are genuinely passionate about music and making their own craft. They don't prioritize numbers and being at the top because that was not even in their plans since the beginning, they just wanted in some way to succeed, spread their messages and touch people's hearts. That's why we Armys ain't not going anywhere.

When people ask me this question that why NEXT BTS won't come out of the other groups or why the attempts fail everytime and why can't other kpop acts become as big as BTS, My answer is always simple, Its all about the minset and message, BTS started as a group of boys who wanted a voice, who had substance, who had courage and message on their song straight from their debut, It was never what the company wanted the boys to talk about but what the boys want to talk about but the best thing being there is the members themselves as they had some really great message and subject to talk about,other KPOP groups may have good music, visual,mvs and can be super talented but the everything comes down to the part of humility and the reason for doing music,
For the newer kpop groups Its mostly about being famous, being big more big and more big, and jumping the steps as soon as possible while for BTS it was spreading message they wanted to spend, they took the steps one at a time, they break into west without even realizing it. It just seems very different.

It's the companies who fail their groups, not the groups who fail. BTS is BTS because of RM, Jin, Suga, JHope, Jimin, V, Jungkook, and Big Hit who gave them the freedom. Most other groups are more constrained by their companies rules.
She's very frank, but she's not wrong. She's not saying other groups don't have good songs. It's just that few companies aren't interested in the BTS journey. But they do exist. I think the 4th gen is really making progress.

Yup, so the moral of the story is, if you want to find the next BTS, the answer is, you don't. You can't force it. It will come unannounced & naturally. And by then, to paraphrase BorahaeCity, it won't be the next BTS, but rather the first of whatever it will be called, even if it may be called the next BTS in hindsight, in the same way BTS was called the next Beatles. People also tried to find the next Michael Jordan, but that didn't really work out either.

I don't think that she's exaggerating. She's speaking the truth.
Some hard truths to swallow, especially for fans of the groups that were called out. Blackpink in particular. At the very least, it's guaranteed that the top artists will actually be artists and not just mouthpieces for the music their company puts in front of them. Any success of mouthpieces has been bought, and we all know it. I do think BTS' hiatus will allow some of more authentic kpop idols to have more of a spotlight. Maybe it's just me, but I never branched out from BTS very much. I tried with Blackpink but after DDD I gave up on hoping they'd be actual artists. But now I'm getting into Stray Kids and Ateez and Mamamoo and Purple Kiss, and it's in large part because I want more music while BTS is on hiatus. I'm sure when BTS returns I'll remain a dedicated fan of those other groups who actually write/produce/compose.
Kpop companies really need to stop with "next bts" idea... just let your group find their own identity.. give them creative freedom and let them grow as artists without controlling every move they make..

When u come from humble beginnings u will definitely work hard to achieve your dreams. That is why BTS became BTS unlike other group they came from the big 3 in the entertaintment industries and have all the resources even broadcasting in tv shows are easy for them. And the amazing fact is BTS stay grounded even after their humongous achievement.

It's not that other groups don't have good music. This is exactly what most kpop fans don't seem to look beyond. The sociopolitical influence that bts's ARTISTRY has is beyond just music to enjoy. You can surely enjoy but their music's layers are to the level where the moment you dive deep, it can really turn your life around especially if you are in a dark space. It's also highly beneficial if you want to learn music, artistry, production, lyricism, politics, sociocultural affluence, being an anomaly in the history of music by easily about 5-10 different standards, you can do that with bts. And the best part is everything around them is accessible.
Artistry is the what sets bts apart. They all think extremely philosophically and know how to articulate it. They are also equally human and make mistakes. When you dive deep into the music, it really pulls you into wanting to see their growth. That is what impact looks like. Unless things reach that level of impact in that many categories, a next bts isn't possible. No legacy can be replicated. Because it isn't formulated. Each of their unique experiences is what sets them apart.

She’s just stating facts! I don’t feel she is harsh when she’s telling the truth. She is not saying the other groups are bad or have bad music as she also said I’d you like a particular song it’s okay. How do get to be the next BTS with a song like Jopping. The group didn’t write the song and SM thought a song like that would be a super hit which would take them to BTS level! It’s time that those big labels and CEOs to wake up to reality. Their old system just doesn’t work anymore. The Korean media also needs to wake up as BTS doesn’t need them but they need BTS.

The narrator is right tho. There is no 'next BTS'. All Kpop artists are unique and talented. Sometimes, being different can make you stand out the most. There is no need to be 'next someone' to become big. I don't know why the companies is so busy copying BTS that they even throwing away their artists true talent.

I met BTS in 2017, I saw their lyrics, I saw how honest they were about it, I saw their interviews, I saw videos where they talked about the creative process for their albums, I saw that they sang well, I saw that the rappers were amazing, I saw that they were real.
and I liked that, I liked that they always put the music first, but kpop is not like that, a BTS performance feels real, you feel what they are presenting to you, but in kpop it looks fake, it doesn't feel authentic.
Even at awards, BTS laughs at themselves, they start playing with each other, they have chemistry, but you see the other groups awkward, like they don't get along, you even see that awkwardness when they're performing on stage.

What interests me is the fact that the founder of Maroom five flew to Israel together with several other people from Hollywood to form a new band. They call this act as 'the next BTS'

Most KPop groups are performers of other people's music, that is the norm. I don't blame the owner/producer of those entertainment companies for inserting themselves. It is after all, their music, not the groups'. In KPop, the groups are replaceable, not the music/producer. They can always find someone good looking to replace them, but not talented musicians
I stan one group but I listen around to see what's out there. I like a few songs from some groups but not enough for me to stan. I have to love your lyrics and most of your music and very few artists do that for me Western or kpop. But one thing she said I've very much noticed which definitely isn't helping kpop and that's the be original with your music. I love watching kpop dances in public so you hear lots of songs and watch their choreo. Tons of songs become earworms when you watch these dance events. But what I've been noticing is that too many times I hear the same riffs or sample or something to the fact I can sing another song that's different to the one being played. That's of course not all groups but it's enough to make it off-putting IMO. When that happens especially if I like it, it makes me a bit sad. Yes it happens in the West but many times they do something different around the known sound to try and change it up OR they make a point of saying "YES THIS SOUND/SAMPLE IS THIS" which we all know sometimes doesn't happen in kpop.
Kpop will never find "the next BTS", it's a stupid ploy and agencies need to stop throwing that on their groups. Let groups be the FIRST _______ and make their own way because most people if they like BTS why would they want another one. They would be looking for different so they can have BTS and this other good group.

The funniest thing about this video... and I love boracity, but it should be known that not ALL these groups weren't trying to be the next BTS.
For instance, at 9:40 the second place was TXT, a group LITERALLY created by Big Hit and managed by Bang PD himself (basically the group and ceo that created BTS). I was stoked when both 1st and 2nd place went to Big HIt lol! BTS treats TXT as their little brothers and there are so many cute interaction between them. Hybe owns a lot of KPOP groups since they branched out, but Big Hit Music only manages BTS and TXT (as well as LE SSERAFIM jointly with Source Music labels). I highly doubt they are trying to discredit their own group xD but the award show wasn't managed by them in the first place, that's why I find it funny that Big Hit were the winners in the end on both accounts lol!
And I personally would never include Stray Kids in any of this at all. Yes, the media constantly tries to push them as the next BTS, because they are the hottest boy group in 4th generation of K-pop right now. But they themselves are SO different from BTS and they never try to be like them. They make and write and produce their own music just like BTS does. Their leader, Bangchan, looks up to RM and the group as a whole looks up to BTS a lot. He is also good friends with Jungkook!
This, however, cannot be said for a LOT of kpop groups out right now, and that's the problem.

BTS made more money with 2 versions of Proof album than any kpop groups with their 8 - 23 versions of the same album. They made 42M$ from limited edition of Proof as well.
I highly doubt that any kpop groups will get 6 #1 songs on BB Hot 100 or get 30B streams on Spottify or get BTS longevity on BB 200 chart. Not only that - BTS are dominating Japanese market also

It's because of investors... The reason why all these labels are pushing their groups so much is that, despite all the media play, they are not as successful as they re pretending to be. You can pay as many YouTune channels as you want to react to MVS, and buy awards, but the true support of fans (which translates into buying music, tickets, etc) cannot be faked.

10:58 Quick answer? Money. Also, YG is known for going through groups, using them up for a few years, and then forgetting about them. That's why I hope Blackpink is careful and has prepared to go to a different company when the time comes. Just look up what YG did to 2EN1. The Big3 kpop companies (YG, SM, and JYP) have a long history of being horrible to their groups. Sure, it's gotten a bit better with each generation, but it could be better. I'm not saying Hybe is perfect since companies and corporations will always be about money and have their own problems, but at least they don't have a long history of slave contracts, trainee abuse, media play, payola, etc etc etc. And they value creative freedom. Tbh I don't like Hybe much, especially after their rebrand from BigHit to Hybe, but that can be a subject for another time.

True I have a Korea friend and his cousin is now a trainee at hybe and he said he is so glad his cousin is at Hybe because he can have that freedom as others under the company have to be himself and also be able to do what he like . And I can tell you hybe is so much better than these other companies. Imagine if BTS help built these other companies from scratch they will give them shares but HYBE did and all these 7 members own shares in HYBE and if all their shares combine is almost half of the company so you can say hybe have their idols interest at heart . If you have noticed they don’t even bring their idols private issues online, they don’t follow the clout and also the freedom imagine JK doing his laundry in live 😂😂😂 . In other companies you can’t . I think hybe even tho they are not perfect but looking at all idols under hybe they are doing what they do by been themselves Ana’s not under much pressure

There's one thing I disagree with. It's not a lack of talent It's It's not being exploited For example Aspa They have great voices but they made them lip sync all the time Their music is controversial They're good dancers but their choreography is subject to criticism What good is their talent if you don't use it?

YG has been media playing BP as the next BTS or the girls BTS or whatever BTS since the beginning. There’s not one single article related to BP that doesn’t mention BTS. I agree that BP doesn’t need it, but that’s been YG’s strategy.

Los Idols, los fandoms y las empresas deben de empezar a ser conscientes del daño que le hace a la industria y al arte de Corea el seguir forzando un gran éxito solo para tratar de sobrepasar a BTS.

BTS have achieved far too many 1st that no other Kpop group coming out of South Korea will ever become the next as you can't re do a first. Also you can't get another BTS just like you can't have another Beatles or any other monster group or artist.
She isn't being harsh, she is just stating facts. It is these management companies who keep talking about the 'next BTS'. How must that make their artists feel. Pretty demoralised I would say. I bet they don't want to be the next BTS either, I am sure they want to be themselves.💜

Please don't compare other groups to bts. They have their respective fandom, talent,etc. No group wants to be the next bts and I think it's disrespectful for both bts and other kpop groups

Well It’s not the media portraying the artist as next Bts ,, it’s the company paying media (media play!!) to write article as the next Bts because that’s how their group will get the attention (with BTS name in the article).
