Thanks - yes - it's one of the World's "top 100" geosites, as recognised by the IUGS.

Great vid. I was lucky enough to be shown that very spot by a great geologist while stuying at Hull Uni. Mr Pieseki (sp?) We bumped into an ammerican post grad student doing his masters on the site, and Mr Pieseki had a fantastic stand up debate with the dude on the various interpritations of the formation. Everyone, including the american loved it and we all learned a lot. It is a super place and a wonderful puzzle, if maybe not quite as spectacular as the folded marvels of Red Wall on South Stack. Fantastic stuff Rob... xxx ;-)

Great memories! Mark Piasecki was a great geo-enthusiast - he inspired many students during his time at Hull - and loved a debate about rocks!

@@robbutler2095 I'd already done a bit of climbing in the Alps, and so he recomended to Nick Robinson and myself that we go to Val Maderanental in Switzerland for a good look at the Alpine scene. There was a copy, under lock and key, of Albert Heim's 'Mechanismus der Gebirgsbildung' in the library. Once we saw that we had to go. Fantastic stuff and we did some good work. Mr Piasecki was a very inspirational bloke.

Thanks for another great, informative video. We have a melange over here too (Ankara Melange).

Thanks for that! Last went to Llanddwyn to see the Gwna melange some years back with an OUGS group led by Dr Bill Fitches but sadly our visit was curtailed by the rising tide 😢
Glad to say his explanation was also debrites! It was great to have a better look in your video - thankyou!

Yes - getting the timing right for the tides is important! It can be a bit chilly for wading in winter! There's a shelter on the island if visitors are caught out, with lots of information posted by the Geopark which can help pass the time....

Im glad you enjoyed my back yard. Anglesey is a brilliant place for geology. Known as the Mona Complex, after the Welsh name of the island; Ynys Mon. Some impressive folding is visible around Ynys Lawd / South Stack. The geotrail is well worth following.

Absolutely. The South Stack stuff to Rhoscolyn is great. Ran field classes there for many years....

Excellent video, wonderful geology, well done, Californian Franciscan Formation has some similarities. Thanks for all or your time dedicated to Geology.

Glad you enjoyed it... the Franciscan is probably a better example in fact!
