It looks amazing but I feel like to do the water / deep sea justice you should move the track back a couple of baseplates and use the front for underwater diorama.
Moving the track back would be difficult due to the nature of the table frame. There is still lots of space for the deep sea area, and I will be building the structure for that soon.
@@Bricksie obviously do what you want, but you wouldnt expect a subway in the country side so you can add extra dioramas such as mining dioramas, the deep blue etc etc as you go around the city witht eh subway in the city area.
1. I love the idea of the subway! 2. It would be great if you could somehow make the subway cars travel under the table (on shelves) but also pop out on top of the table 3. Would love to see the subway portions under the water sections made to look like an underwater tunnel (like you see with subways between NY/NJ) Just a thought! Great job!
Loving the subway, a backdrop of standard subway tile with the names of Subway stops would be interesting, an aquarium backdrop when the subway goes under the harbor would be cool. Maybe throw in some giant squid.
Great first draft for the subway, could you possibly raise the platforms closer to the table? I feel a Metro needs to be a bit more compact, the gap seems very high and might take a lot of pieces to properly fill.
Hi Bricksie. Your dream for a subway has begun, but it's a long journey building the whole setup. I follow Charlie Bishop of Chadwick Model Railways (from the UK) on TH-cam. He has been building his layout for ever, but each vlog is interesting and informative. He has helixes, below the layout, where he stores trains and turns them around etc. Biggest problem is derailments. I would build imitation escalators for passengers. Far easier to do and less trouble. I'm so excited about the Lego subway. What a dream!
Cool idea with the subway, however, I have this feeling you’re going to get your subway built and then be very annoyed with the access to the city. Don’t think the trains will be able to between the two levels. The length of the access slot will have to be so long. Think of the gradient just to go over the bridge in the city. You’ll need like 3 laps to go from subway to city.
I don't remember if you have a laser level or not, but you hang so much stuff that you really should get one. I got one a few years ago just for home owner stuff and regret not getting one sooner. Jobs like these are much easier with one and it will save you so much frustration and time. Its great for hanging art as well, makes sure everything lines up nicely.
an underwater scene by the beach under the table would be cool. i feel like trains and subways are a little redundant, but its gonna be great regardless
to stiffen the sagging boards, try aluminum angle. it give you a thin leg to screw through and a long leg that gives you the stiffness you want. Instead of hockey tape, you can get iron on melamine tape that will exactly match the shelf edges.
Here are two more ideas: Maybe you could add inner shelves with cutouts for the posts to the outer shelves at the front and back, and attach them with shelf brackets just like the outer ones. This would give more depth for dioramas, e.g. with plenty of room at the front for two tracks in a larger subway station and space at the back for a railway siding or something similar. And with regard to an underwater world in the front left corner, the subway could perhaps be routed in some kind of an underwater tube with big "windows" for the train passengers to gaze upon the marine life.
You can buy specialized edge banding for the shelves, wich is very easy to use. Also, for the backdrop baseplates, you could glue or tape small magnets to the backside of the baseplates to attach them under the tables. This would make it very easy to place and remove them when needed.
Love the subway!!! can't wait to see what stories you tell under there. If you're taking votes, I vote for a dwarven mine under the seven dwarf house maybe breaking into a section of a giant Geode, a haunted crypt under the haunted house, a portion of the Amusement park showing underground tunnels and maybe even a Mickey carrying his head like his off the clock.
Love the subway I see a few people have commented about underwater scene you should do a tunnel through water with fish etc on top and add a submarine. Also a scene near bank of some thieve tunnelling into a vault.
You could run shelves underneath the main part of the table to allow trains to skip part of the outer track or have separate loops. It can also allow you to have a spot to get under the table that doesn't have track in front of it and have some scenes without trains in them.
Glad you have set up subway as you need to think about above ground subway entrances like in downtown at Studley station and amusement park also on wider shelf give room to create a subway booking hall scene
I like the idea of the subway for your city its a good addition to it! But i would treat it with caution to not hit your head on the wood when you go under it
Perhaps I'm not understanding how you intend to use the 1x4, but I'm concerned that may not address the bowing problem you have. I'd suggest re-evaluating that, you could probably build some brackets out of wood to address that problem. Likely stronger too.
This is coming out awesome. I do like the idea of the trains being able to join the subway track from the table above, but would for sure be tricky. there should Definitely be a subway station with stairs leading through a hole to access the subway platforms. Also seems like the perfect opportunity for a TMNT setup
Option for back wall - Have a U-turn on each side. Equaling 2 tracks of subway & an easier way to access underneath, if you get rid of back shelf. Did you really want to crawl even lower? Get a rolling cart to move MILs plates along floor.
love the subway. maybe get some underwater subway aquarium like action going on under the front water areas. Also you might consider making the track go in a U -Shape under the table to clear all your access places to allow for you to more easily get underneath the table from the sides without having to go all the way under the subway track as well.
Bricksie you are a Lego City Beast!!! Wonderfully creative - great subway system coming along - give yourself and of course Mrs. Bricksie a huge pat on the back!!!
I love your subway idea xx you should have just stairs down to the tracks . And your wee ticket booths on top levels xx amazing work ❤ ps can’t wait to see back drops full of art 🥰
It might help to give the removeable subway parts separate legs, it would have it so they dont bow and also when you move them to get under the table you could just slide them out instead of lifting and possibly dropping the section 🤘
For the removal section, consider trickbrix mils straight track terminator. This way you don't to worry about connecting/disconnecting the track sections.
You mentioned that you made the subway 10 inches to potentially have a base plate turned on its side, but then you said you are going MILS the train track. Don't forget to account for the extra height MILS adds to the shelf, the baseplate on its side will no longer fit with the height you built.
would it be possible to integrate the batcave diorama into the backside of the snow mountain and have a secret entrance? Looking forward to seeing more subway, maybe some TMNT? Thanks for sharing!
This usually happens when people with more experience in other aspects can see the issue with what the builder is doing. There is a lot that can be improved upon with the construction done the way it is. That said he can do what he wants.
I think you should have the subway layer be every imaginable underground theme that it passes through. Underwater, miners, dinosaurs in the center of the earth, alien base, bad guy lair, ninja turtles, etc etc. would be a lot of fun and much less monotonous than a realistic backdrop.
I haven't seen subways in countrysides/mountainous reigions. I thought it would be cool to see some depth in the more built up areas and have multiple lines, like in London, you could build underground stations and build the tunnels around the stations. You could do mining caves or stuff like that in the green areas, or like an eath cut out, to see different layers of earth/rock with fossils
Istanbul has a subway system in a very hilly region. Quite normal to get on at some stations near the water and go further down using escalators than the length of your journey on the train!
Did you consider having the subway run through the middle just under the city? (sorry if I missed any comments on that) It would be more realistic, less $ and work. Either way it will be really cool especially lit up!
A funicular railway would be one where counterbalanced carriages move in opposite directions over a fixed gradient, connected by a cable (ie one goes up as the other goes down). I think what you are referring to is a helix, which is often used in model railways to allow trains to change elevation whilst maintaining acceptable gradients, but this would still take up alot of space. I think you are right to ditch the idea of connecting the subterranean railway with the overground railway 👍 Just one question, you seem to have left gaps so you can still get to the access holes - how will the track bridge these gaps?
Realise its your city, your design but man, I'd love to see the subway tuck under the city near the front access holes so you could make an underwater scene at the front! however I look forward to seeing your vision come to fruition though. :) going up and down would be great but at the size of that gap between the table and the subway you'd be looking at 80 or so sections of track to keep the incline to 1plate per 16studs of track. or about 10m up/10m down so it would chew up a massive amount of your display space
you could add two ramps to connect the subway line with the surface level and maybe add the raised tracks back to your city as an elevated subway, like in Chicago.
9:35 I think it would make more sense to add more space to the front. It doesn’t really make much sense to make space for story telling in the back where it’s basically hidden away from sight forever.
OOOOOH, I gots an idea..... Try to track down some of the old Ninja Turtle sets and create a turtle Lair behind the subway.... set 79117: Turtle Lair Invasion AND A TURTLE VAN garage :D😄 another idea is the upside down from stranger things and Maybe a few giant sewer lines with Ghost busters and a river of slime from the 2nd movie using minifigs from (Set 21108).....oh oh.... and a Batcave!
I hope you do a scene/diorama/whatever it may be of mole people!- homless people living underground in old railway and flood tunnels. Like a switch track with a short spur line on the back side of the table legs with a little homeless village
you should have a train station built under snowy mountain village. that way people can transfer between main tracks and take a eacalator or elevator between the subway and main tracks
A subway will be an awesome addition to the COOLEST LEGO city EVER!
It looks amazing but I feel like to do the water / deep sea justice you should move the track back a couple of baseplates and use the front for underwater diorama.
I am happy that I am not the only one who was thinking that
Moving the track back would be difficult due to the nature of the table frame. There is still lots of space for the deep sea area, and I will be building the structure for that soon.
@@Bricksiejust cut across the tables! It doesn’t need to be exposed all the time
I think I'll just continue building it with the vision that I have, but I appreciate everyone's opinions.

Love the city progress. An underwater scene would look nice under the oceanfront. But it would take away from the main view of the subway.
That's coming right up as well!
or it could add like a subway tunnel thru the ocean and sea life around it

Can I just say that water looks so good on camera and under the lights? 😍😍😍😍
Great first draft for the subway, could you possibly raise the platforms closer to the table? I feel a Metro needs to be a bit more compact, the gap seems very high and might take a lot of pieces to properly fill.
I think leaving more space offers more opportunity for bigger/better dioramas

TMNT turtle lair under a small section of the city...

Exactly what I was thinking…melamine is likely to sag over these distance’s.
You should definitely make a way for the underground train to come up to the city.
Excited to see the subway take shape. It doesn’t leave you a lot of clearance to crawl under to your access holes.
I was thinking the same just now

Personally, I was leaning toward a perimeter layout so I can follow the trains all the way around. But yes it could pads through the center as well.
I think a train elevator would be in order!😀
Are going to be able to crawl under the table with the train track, to access the pop up areas of the city ?
Laser levels pay for themselves in pretty much 1 project! 👍

What if you hung some earth colored fabric under the subway platform to create a cross-section effect and hide the table legs?
What a fabulous idea. I've been watching for a while now and seeing the constant evolution of the diorama and your ideas for it is inspiring.
Oh I can imagine the back drop. Monument valley, caves, jungle, underground spring . Woo hoo some storytelling coming up. Tfs

You should build shiping containers for the shiping dock/train loading area
is this going to make you getting to popup holes inside the city more difficult? those boards for the subway look pretty dang low to the ground
Please watch the video to find out how I will be addressing that issue 😃
do the subway under and behind the beach so you can do a diorama of an ocean bottom
Wow just love this city

Can you make a city tour at the end of the year
If it fitted you could do double track on the subway with an interchange at the far end of the table where there's a bit more space
I've seen other Lego builders over lap the edges of the boards with Lego by putting a lip on the base plates
Indeed, I did mention that.
i like trains
