- After catching the train(s) from Jakarta to the city of Bogor, we check into the hotel, get soaked, see the Botanical Gardens, get soaked again and visit a rooftop bar to end the evening.

Welcome to Bogor, The Rain City. Most Indonesian knew, Bogor is also called the City of Rain, there it rains every day even in the dry season it always rains but local rain, sometimes it only rains a few meters, but it still rains in the dry season.
What makes Bogor always rain because of the geographic, the confluence of hot and dry winds from the city of Jakarta (from the north) and cold mountain winds from Sukabumi (from the south). The two winds, hot and dry winds met with cold winds filled with water vapor, meet over the Bogor area which causes the city to rain every single day.
The Garden offers a quick escape from Jakarta, just 50 km away to the south. Many gigantic trees may have lived for hundreds of years. Just looking at them gives me pleasure. I hope mosquitoes didn't give you a hard time though. I always carry mosquito repellent cream when visiting the garden. Such a big help.

Indonesia can survive in 1998 crisis and 2008 crisis ...because of our local market...such as food court vendor and etc....with our fertile land and sustainable rain...all of vegetable, food , palm oil , instant noodles...all of them have much in Indonesia....goverment just pour money in civil servant then boom our GDP would grow dramatically

The area that is now Bogor Botanical Gardens was part of the samida (man made forest) that was established at least around the era when Sri Baduga Maharaja (Prabu Siliwangi, 1474-1513) ruled the Sunda Kingdom, as written in the Batutulis inscription. This forest was created to protect seeds of rare trees. The forest remained neglected after the Sundanese kingdom was destroyed in the 16th century. In 1744 the Dutch East India Company established a garden and mansion at the site of the present Botanical Gardens in Buitenzorg (now known as Bogor).

I live near kebun raya and unfortunately you came at a bad time since bogor has been experiencing wild rainstorms for more than a week now, it's crazy. Hope you still have a good time in Bogor though. If you want to visit Bogor again, June/July would be a better choice since it doesn't rain very often in those months. Don't forget to try bogor cuisine in suryakencana street, it's famous for it's foods 😁
