    My new Costco Philips hearing aids are terrific. At $1500, the price is unbeatable. I love the phone app for precise, easy to use controls. I almost never use the buttons on the hearing aids themselves. I love the rechargeable feature; it beats changing the batteries. And the most important feature is how well they fit,feel and never fall out of my ears! My hearing is now incredibly better than it was with my prior set of Phonaks. Oh, and I love it that my aids are bluetooth enabled so I always have a set of invisible headphones in my ears! Music, audiobooks, TVs can be heard clear as a bell to me and not bother anyone else.

      @harleyatkins2008 You’re damn right about those trash Phonak hearing aids. I’ve had them for a year and the rechargeable battery lasts 3-4 hours. Unfortunately, my health insurance wouldn’t pay for the Costco hearing aids. The Phonak hearing aids were $5000 and my portion to pay was $500. I hope that no one else gets the Phonak hearing aids.

    I am a 77yo engineer. I noticed I was not understanding even loud talk by actors at plays. I thought my brain was running too slow to decode words. After a friend's comment that by my high freq hearing loss I am missing consonants and not getting the words due to that. I have researched that and I am getting my Costco hearing test next week. Probably going with Jabra, but lets see what comparison teaches me. Your channel is invaluable, thank you.👍

    I just ordered my hearing aids. I went in thinking that I wanted the Jabra’s. But, no matter how they were adjusted. The reverb when I spoke was really bad. I continued to try the Philips and wore them for about 30 minutes. I walked around Costco and heard things, I’d never heard of noticed before. I can’t wait to pick up my aids because I really believe they will be changing my life!

    I compared hearing aids from three different brands yesterday at Costco in Taiwan. I ultimately chose the Philips 9040 model. Its sound is clearly the most natural. I even asked the hearing specialist to temporarily turn off the hearing aid sound for me because it was so natural that I doubted whether the hearing aid was turned on. It's fantastic! I'm really looking forward to receiving it! Please deliver it soon! 🥰

  • @CoastyBear

    Costco recently changed the Philips HearLink 9040 package to include the premium charger. It was probably a smart business decision, as the basic charger leaves the hearing aids exposed to curious house pets to chew on, and I would bet that resulted in lots of warranty replacements for pet-chew damage.

      I've only ordered my 9040's. I haven't been fitted yet. I told my specialist I wanted Programs installed and he said he doesn't do that initially. Obviously he doesn't tell his customers about that feature. My neighbor uses the same Costco, has a different specialist, is a user of hearing aids for many years and she apparently doesn't have any programs installed because she was never informed about them, plus she can't locate them on her app.

    Great video! I’ve been waiting for this one. For me, I’ve decided one of the requirements is that my next pair of hearing aids must support multipoint Bluetooth. (I think that’s what it’s called?) whereby I can switch from my iPhone to my iPad **without** having to disconnect from one device first. That’s the main reason I only have my current hearing aids paired with my iPad. Drives me absolutely nuts to have to disconnect/turn off Bluetooth on one device before I can listen on another.

    • @HearingClub

    • @HearingClub
      @HearingClub  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Without knowing your audiogram or test results, can’t say if you need molds or not. I wouldn’t say it’s better but it is newer technology so it is little better. But there’s us fitters ways for us to manage feedback. But it’s possible ya need molds and also maybe stronger receivers too. Again just depends what your audiogram results are.

    • @tomc101
      @tomc101 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Domes don't work well for some people that have a non-compatible ear canal shape. For me, the domes tend to send sound to the side of my ear canal instead of straight down the canal.
      Custom molds get around that problem. My first custom mold worked well but was rather large. My most recent custom mold is quite a bit smaller at the suggestion of the Costco audiologist and works and fits much better. Before his suggestion I didn't know that there was a choice of size for molds.
      All of my hearing aids and both molds have been from Costco.

    Hi Brian! Thanks for your channel. I was told, back when Costco first stated carrying aids, that my loss was too severe for the type of aids they sell. Is that still true today? That you can't treat severe/profound high frequency noise induced loss?

    • @HearingClub
      @HearingClub  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I would say it depends on who is fitting your hearing aids and the experience of the fitter. I can definitely fit someone with a profound loss by using a custom ITE hearing aid with an ultra power receiver or if its beyond that, costco has 1 High Power BTE made by Rexton. And its rechargeable. But with costco and ANY other hearing aid center, the fitter can be a new apprentice just learning or a very experienced fitter that knows what they are doing. I would give costco a shot!

      I'd have to see your audiogram. Which frequencies are at 85dB? If it's a severe to profound loss, the Philips 9040 may not be enough. It's very unfortunate but at costco, right now, we only have one high power BTE option. If you go with a custom hearing aid, you can get a really nice Ultra Power custom from jabra. Again, I would have to see your aidiogram, I have no idea which frequency is at 85dB.

    Hello! I have otosclerosis and fairly severe hearing loss in my right ear. Left is normal. My ears are also quite sensitive so when I went for my hearing test a couple of weeks ago and the Dr put a behind the ear aid in for me to try, she had to keep adjusting it to reduce my sense of a sort of hissing or feedback feeling. She recommended the Bernafon Alpha XT 7...for over $3,000 Canadian for one hearing aid. I am considering the Philips 9040 at costco but have to wait a few weeks for an appointment. I am wondering if the super sensitivity and otosclerosis will make a difference in the type of hearing aid I can choose? I prefer the behind the ear variety to the in the canal variety. Thanks so much!

    • @HearingClub
      @HearingClub  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      ok lets start with the fact that I myself am not a doctor and i dont EVER want to overstep or move out of my lane so to speak. I am however, a licensed hearing aid practitioner and DO know about hearing aids and what they can do. Usually, from what i know about otosclerosis is that its due to the ossicles not being able to move correctly, you have hearing loss and it's USUALLY in the lower frequencies. Is this the case with you? Whether you have low frequency or high frequency loss, ALL of the prescription hearing aids at costco can accommodate this. Most can in fact. You made need a custom mold, a closed "occluded" dome but ya, they can help you for sure. Show me your audiogram and i'll let you know but you certainly shouldn't need a certain hearing aid, they should all do the job as long as its a good, well known manufacturer. At costco, the philips are made by demant, the same as the bernaphon and oticon hearing aids. Hope this helps.

      @@HearingClub Thanks so much for your reply, Brian! I actually can't remember if my HL is in the higher or lower frequencies...however, I'll be picking up my audiogram tomorrow. I hear so little from that ear, it doesn't seem to matter. At this point I will definitely be going the Costco route. Re the otosclerosis, I thought it was the stapes bone that is "stuck" with a build up of calcium? I considered surgery to replace the bone, but when they mentioned a risk of facial nerve damage, I chickened out. ;P Besides, I was also told I would have to have the surgery again in 10-12 years.

My hearing is moderate in the right ear and moderate to severe in the left ear. Both drop from a low frequency range down like a cliff when you get to the higher frequencies. These Oticon OpN2 even with audiologist doing reprogramming every 6 months my word recognition is not what I thing it should be with $4,200 pair aids.
      Is there a lower cost Costco aid you think are better then these Oticon OpN2’s? They are rechargeable which ai like. The app don’t have ant frequency adjustments by the customer like many the Phonak apps do. Better word recognition is what I am looking for. How can I send you a audiogram? I have one recent.

    Do these or the Jabras have a Tinnitus masking feature? I have been told from my local Costco (Vancouver, BC, Canada) no Costco hearing aids have this feature. I have test driven the Oticon’s which have a reliever feature in the app that works well for me but they are $4k vs $2k for the same Philips. My hearing loss is very mild in the high range but I have really bad tinnitus (8 months now). I do know I can stream sounds from my iPhone but I doing the BT cuts out intermittently vs having the app stream it where the program is saved in the hearing aids preventing BT dropout disruptions when playing the white noise. Love your videos lots of great info!

    I'm curious to know as to whether the custom ear molds I'm using for the Real 1's would fit these 9040's?
    Reason I'm asking is that I've already purchased the Real 1's some time ago but I'm considering purchasing the 9040 as a backup pair for the Real 1.

    Great review. I have the HL 9040 now for 2 weeks. Agree with the bad (featureless) app. The app keeps disconnecting from the hearing aids and have to reboot the app and turn off/on the hearing aids: Hopefully Philips will get that updated. Besides that, I think my dome's fitting may be not right, as I don't hear Bluetooth streaming audio mid and low bass sounds very well, nor in normal speech, even though the domes are inside the canal. It seems to be all high frequencies. During normal wear, as a musician, when I play a simple tone or guitar chord, everything has vibrato (rapid fluctuations in volume). I am not sure if it's the fit or the AI is trying to adjust the volume. I went back to the Costco audiologist, and they fitted me with a larger dome, but still seems lacking on the low end. What's your thoughts?

    After 3 years of ks9s disposable battery version, I tried Jabra Enhance Pro 10 disposable large battery version. Sounded “tinny” right out of the box. I thought I would get used to it. I didn’t. I stream most of the day while working. With Jabra I couldn’t hear or adjust in any more bass.
    The left one’s Bluetooth broke, I returned them for repair (they replaced both). I wore my old ks9s and immediately enjoyed more bass and a more natural sound of voices. Even with adjustments the voices sounded shrill…almost painful. With outside noise I had to turn up the volume and the “shrill” got worse. Very uncomfortable. I took the Jabras back today and got my refund.

    Hi Brian,
    I’m on day 2 of my Phillips 9040. I was hoping the 9050’s were already out.
    I inquired about the jabra. The person helping me suggested Phillips and asked why I was interested in jabra. I told her I had a jabra Bluetooth in the past and knew that name brand. I asked her why she was recommending the Phillips and she said there were LESS RETURNS with the Phillips. When I went back the next day for my pick up appointment and to pay I asked again why she recommended the Phillips and she asked (kind of rudely) do you want the jabra instead? I said no, I just forgot what you told me. We went in the booth, did all of the sound stuff and trying on. Then it’s time for me to leave and she pulls a pair of hearing aids from the cabinet. I asked, are those jabra? She said yes. I asked for the next person and she said yes. I just thought it was odd and felt like she could have also let me try on the jabra’s?? She was at our store from out of town helping out. My follow up is June 7th with our regular local person.
    Are people allowed to try more than 1 brand??
    Also, I feel like these sound a little tinny and sound better when I put my fingers in my ears. LOL Plus…when my hair touches them it really sounds staticky.
    And what are programs????
    I also wanted to listen to TV through my hearing aids and she talked me out of getting the device??? It’s all so new 😅 Thanks for listening and thanks for any help 😊

    • @HearingClub
      @HearingClub  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So first of all, yes you can try all 3 brands before making a decision. They sound better or “louder” when you have your fingers in your ear because you are trapping all the sound in your ear canal vs some of it spilling out. The tinny sound is completely normal, I’m assuming you have a high frequency loss. The static you hear when touching the mic is normal as well. With Jabra’s, there is an option called “wind noise reduction” that you can turn up that will reduce that sound significantly but the Philips version is on by default and apparently, some static is still there.

      All of the Rx hearing aids have frequency lowering that can be enabled or disabled and I always set it as the default if needed and have the patient wear them like that for 2 weeks and then report back. And I have to double check but I don't think frequency lowering can be turned on for a specific program. I'm pretty sure it's one of the universal settings that isn't program specific. So if you have frequency lowering on, it applies to all programs so that's probably why you didn't notice any difference.

    Hey Brian! I know you indicated in one of your videos that you chose the Jabra Pro10 hearing aids for yourself. I had my hearing test done at my local Costco here in Connecticut. Trying to decide between the Jabra Pro 20 and the Philips Hearlink 9040. I’m a long time audiophile, so listening to music is a huge thing for me. With that being said, obviously speech intelligibility is also extremely important. Which of the two would you say offers better sound quality for an audiophile?

    • @HearingClub
      @HearingClub  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      thats a hard question to answer. Personally, i have a very mild high frequency hearing loss and the Jabra's have worked great for me. I can't hear what you are hearing and for some people, the jabras sound better and for others, they like the philips. Personally, i would go with something that you can program yourself so philips would be a good bet. Video will be out shortly on how to do this.

      @krellman7 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HearingClub Okay! Now my interest is really peaked! Being able to do programming myself would be a huge advantage for an audiophile. All kidding aside, I have well over 100k invested in my audio system. The speakers alone were 28k. I know that sounds crazy, but most high end audiophiles take the hobby pretty seriously. I’m looking forward to the video! Thanks Brian! happy Easter to you and your family!

    Hi. I have enjoyed watching your videls. Please take note, I want you and your viewers know that the Philips 9040 and the Oticion Real 1 hearing aids are not compairable at all. They are not the same at all in the way they process sound. I tried the Oticon Real 1 aids earlier and now I'm trying the Philips 9040 aids. Now that I tried the Philips, i will be puchasing the Oticon hearing aids. There is an ASTOUNDING difference in how they sound to me. The Philips take more of a standerd directional approch where the Oticon's really do process sound from all around.
    Now, having said this, If one can only afford the Philips 9040 hearing aids, then go for it, they do work well. However, they are not in the least the same as the Oticon Real 1 hearing aids.

I've finally decided to act, and have an appointment at Costco in 1 month to get a hearing test, and believe I'll be going with Philips 9040. My question is "why do i need to buy the Philips TV Streaming Box (about $250?) when I can get an Auracast box from Amazon for a fraction of that"? Also, I'm wondering if I can be listening to TV with Auracast and still hear my wife speak to me at a normal level. That is, can I hear two things I'm interested in at once? Thanks in advance.

    I have Rexton hearing aids from Costco. They work fine. I was told rechargeable aids were not available at Costco. Once I walked out the door I never heard from them again. The Rexton app is ok but I was never told there was an app, I found out while checking out aids on TH-cam. I give my aids a thumbs up but not so Costco customer service. I kinda felt like I was dealing with a used car dealer. I made one appointment for service and was without aids for about 2 weeks, no loaners. One thing that drives me nuts is the noise my hair makes brushing the aid. It sound like a person is crushing a potato chip bag by your ear every time I move my mouth or move my head. My tech said that’s just a downside from that kind of aid and they can’t do anything about it.

    • @HearingClub
      @HearingClub  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, with philips, there is no adjustment for the handling noise. With jabras, you can crank up the wind noise reduction with the app and it can virtually remove all of that hair noise. Sounds like you need a better Practitioner taking care of you. Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. I guess not all practitioners offer the same level of customer service.

    The only question I have right now is probably one of those "unknowables." What is the expected life span of the rechargeable batteries in these aids, and will Costco replace them at the end of the three years, or will I have dead pieces of plastic at that time? Can these be ordered with regular battery power? I have had the Costco KS8's, and I'm about 2 months from the five-year mark. They probably work about as well as they ever have. As to colors, the fitter said they used to sell aids in metallic red, green, blue, and purple. He said they sold almost none in those colors. But being a hotrodder, I would have bought some metallic candy apple red, right?

    • @HearingClub

      Haha yes candy apple red or apricot orange, just not ford blue. Anyway, they will send out the hearing aids right before the warranty ends. The standard Philips desktop charger that I received at Costco needs to be plugged in to charge, but it holds three days' worth of charge, so you can take it with you (camping, etc.) and still use it to charge your Philips hearing aids for three days. So you won't always need a separate charger that contains its own battery.
