    When I was about Tim's age, my dad said "the way you are really going to learn is if I put you in charge of a project. You can ask me for advice and I can be your helper, but you need to take charge. Come up with a plan and ask me for advice when you want." My first project was almost exactly like this one. We started doing that for pretty much everything over time. He would occasionally raise his hand and I knew better than to ignore it. He would say "did you consider....." which was his nice way of saying "don't be an idiot, here's how to do that" but he really tried hard not to take over or to say "no, we're not going to do it that way". It wasn't always easy, but I learned so much with this approach I'm using it with my kids.

    Wes, if you were to connect the running gear rails to the deck rails via triangulation like a bar joist it would be practically unbreakable. Just a thought.

    Wes, have you considered a plasma cutter for cutting, beveling and gouging.

    LOL Every time I hear that cricket chirp tone, I think someone is trying to hint, "Crickets...boring...move on". It is really funny when it happens at certain times in your videos... LOL. On the subject of running a farming/ranching enterprise, I feel for you Wes... I ranched cattle and never considered myself a "Rancher". I was a fence and baling equipment repairman, grass farmer, and veterinarian,...in that order most years.

    Hiya Wes, ever thought about getting a plasma cutter, would make quick work of cutting that steel tubing, maybe some gouging tips as well, could make quick work of removing old welds.

    next time you come to the uk have a look at some second hand machinery sales there are usually flat bed lorry trailers at them and they are perfect for bale leading because they are very heavy duty and usually very cheap. all you need is a dolly to pull them with

    patches work best as triangles and diamonds, weld lines should be diagonal when possible.

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, and maybe a square peace welded at the top and bottom to take the stretch and pull

    • @piperdoug428
      @piperdoug428 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      only prob with the square top n bottom Vs diamonds is with a square patch two of the welds will cross the grain of the tube which creates an opening for fatigue, the diamond still crosses but with diagonals it lengthens and offsets the bead. each to their own but ive had great luck with this way.

    • @johnnybarbar7435
      @johnnybarbar7435 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree @Piper Doug. Square patches focus the stress and allow cracks to initiate and propagate much easier. If you look at aircraft structures such as wing spars, all stress fittings are tapered to allow some flex and eliminate all of the stress transmitting to the joint.

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nope, only legal way to connect two beams in construction certified for people to be in shal have square patch over all the top, no diamond, no triangle or any other funnything homebrewstuff that not share the load... that can twist the beam.... here are pictures of only legal way to do it eng.ccs.gr/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/AISC_BSWelded.png

    Wes, don't you know that if you cleaned that wagon off with a blower, washed and waxed it that wagon never would've broken. Oh yeah don't forget you have to whine and badmouth other youtubers, start trashing them and act like you never have breakdowns yourself that were due to your own negligence. Also its a great idea to leave your combine sitting out just because dealers leave them sitting out on a lot.
