- This is vintage Stewart Warner temperature gauge repair video. The gauge is a mechanical type with bulb and capillary tube. It shows how to find and repair the leak and to recharge the bulb with ether.
You really know how to enjoy retirement. Thanks for the lesson.
Anyone know what they use on mechanical temperature gauges? What is the stuff in the line? Especially on a 1939 ford with a red liquid hopefully it's not toxic???
Just a quick question, how is the temperature guage holding up?
Good question. I have driven the truck 6 months after the repair. The gas appears to have different properties than the original resulting in it showing a consistent operating temperature of 165F and not the expected 180F as previous indicated. But this is adequate for my purpose of keeping the original operational gauge in place.
@@williamwildman5577 I was going to fix it myself, but I didn't have the proper equipment to do so. Instead, I sent it away to a shop who specializes in instrument restoration and repair for old vehicles. This was a cheaper solution for myself, as the cost of materials and tools would have been the same. Also they fix these types all the time.
