No joke, all of these solo Dan episodes are actually immensely therapeutic for me. The games are quiet, Dan is calm and enjoying walking us through this era of gaming and his childhood. It's just so feel good
I love both of the boys but sometimes Arin is too much and he gives me like sensory overload, reminds me of misophonia? Like I get angry and want to escape. Not that he's annoying, but just that my brain can't deal with it sometimes (to be fair I also can't listen to people eating, espwcially soups, and sometimes even anbient sounds will drive me nuts) These solo episodes of Dan's are soothing as hell though~

I get a little sad when i hear danny trying to defend his choice to play this game. every time you play one of these games you bring a little bit more of you onto the show. This is something you are passionate about and it shows and adds to its charm. I personally love watching these videos because of that reason. Don't try to defend these games dan. play and enjoy them. Danny, you really should consider doing this as a regular series, maybe once a month or so. This is way more relaxing than most other game grumps episodes (not that I don't like them, but sometimes you want something chill without a bunch of yelling and laughing), and gaming could really use a Bob Ross figure
I'd him to solo at least the first couple kings quests. Bring Ross in for at least 4. Also should play leisure suit Larry, but those are also really good with Ross cause they are more comedic and goofy. Just... more point and click. Go to the Lucasarts games. Monkey island, Day of the Tentacle, Secret of Atlantis. You cant die in Lucas games so they could really just enjoy themselves.

That makes it a bit easier to navigate. - Yes, Scott Murphy officially apologized for the glass shard puzzle. In fact, he did that on a Hangout I hosted back in 2012 when the SpaceVenture Kickstarter was still going. You can even "give coupon to bartender" and he'll give you 3 buckazoids and a free beer. - Speaking of beers, I noticed you were carrying your 3rd beer with you all the way to the end of the game. In Space Quest I, when you have to complete certain portions before you die, are they determined by timers or by step counters? For example, can you idle in the desert forever, and only get thirsty after a certain distance traveled?

ToadySP Arin "playing" Chrono Trigger was redudant. But he's too busy making excuses of not playing Kingdom Hearts because he takes the game way too literal. I don't understand why he doesn't play long-running games in general, when he's dropped a lot games in the past; so, there's no reason to play a limited playtrough of 20 episodes for the laughes, and for Danny's sake of asking Arin to play it (more than necessary). But yea, I agree with the Mega Man playtrough.

Dan, not only was this a wonderful video to watch, but the comments are overwhelmingly more positive than I'd expect from TH-cam. I love all the Grumps and your videos are all good, but this response has got to tell you how much we like this. I think it's the difference in tone (calm and soothing vs ANGRY YELLING) and that you clearly love what you're playing. More like this, please! The end of King's Quest had me really emotional and I'd love to see you play through it as well as the first one.

This is the most zen let's play I've seen. Love everything about this, especially when Danny gives unbridled "Wheeeee"s and "Yeeeeah"s when he figures something out. Hoping he continues with these Space Quest/King's Quest playthroughs.
There's actually another way to kill the Orat, which is what I did when I originally played it. If you go into the cave while the Spider Droid is still around, you can hide, and the droid will run into the Orat and self-destruct. I actually never knew about feeding it the can of dehydrated water.
You can actually romance orat and have children. Then you can clean the cave and basically do everything for orat while orat just sits around complaining how life is so hard and you end up committing suicide because you realize you made a horrible mistake
This is what I've been waiting for, another trip down Danny's memory lane, I always find it so interesting, I could never go back and play these games alone and enjoy them. But having Danny point of view and explanations as he plays makes it one of the best experiences in your life. (IMO)
Jonathan Pierce old sierra games are really bad games, but don't just write all of the off... Lucas Arts games are mostly still absolutely timeless fun
Oh I agree, when I was referring to these games I was specifically speaking about the older games. I grew up with my dad playing these games as well, not so much Space Quest, but King's Quest I often saw a lot. So I think its partly that relation that makes me so interested in seeing Danny play them. A lot of the newer games by Lucas I'd definitely enjoy playing or have enjoyed playing.
Absolutely do more of these, Danny. I grew up playing Space Quest and King's Quest games with my family. My dad would run the keyboard while my mom, my sister, and I clustered around and made suggestions. Sharing these games with you now is super nostalgic for me.
I actually prefer these solo ones. I love Space Quest, and to be honest I like Dan more in these solo videos. He just seems calmer, and more happy (having more fun) rather than angry and cursing with more modern games.

I've had a super hard time sleeping for years due to various traumas and mental health problems but the solo danny videos always calm me down In a way I can't explain this on in particular has littraly saved my life from my own hands and I hope one day I can meet danny and thank him for being so wholesome and calming
I deal with pretty severe depression, which includes feeling deeply alone a lot of the time. Danny’s solo vids are one of the few things that help me feel less alone. I’m so grateful for these. They help me stick around.
I feel ya. A couple years ago I lost my dad unexpectedly, and pretty much everything else in my life fell apart shortly after. I was in a bad way and had a couple months where I was especially messed up. These playthrough videos helped calm my mind though. They gave me a sense of stability to help relax.
I think it's kinda heartwarming that Danny would usually preface these solo Sierra playthroughs by apologizing to the audience for the outdated graphics and gameplay; only for these videos to become some of the most beloved GG content ever. What makes a great playthrough is when the person playing the game genuinely loves the experience and that comes through in the video. It feels like you're there with them playing along. That's why these solo playthroughs are so cherished. We get to hang out with Danny as he relives a piece of his childhood. It's not done for laughs or trying to pander for views; it's just a very chill playthrough coming from a place of love. More Game Grumps content should use this template. I know for myself, I'd much rather see Danny or even Arin playing games they actually have a personal investment in; rather than whatever fad game they downloaded this week.
I do like seeing them (old gamers) seeing what comes to fruition. Like Arin finding a new game that fits his humor and Dan just being amazed that that type of game exists.
dan sounds so excited and cute, he made me fall in love with this game immediately! i can tell that the comedic style of flavor-text influenced a lot of modern games :-)
Danny sent us to Space Quest Historian some time ago who plays them all. Currently we're wrapping up SQ4 I believe, on his channel. Might be interesting for you to look up, but I'd agree...I'd love to see Danny play ALL the Sierra games. KQ, LSL, SQ, PQ, Manhunter, I loved them all and Danny's childlike innocence just does it for me.

To be honest, I always hated the text-based sierra games as a kid. Playing "guess the verb" always annoyed me, so I stuck to the point-and-click ones. It's still so much fun to watch Danny play it, especially since he usually remembers exactly what you need to type.
That's how I feel. The fatigue from getting every other word wrong in an era with no walkthroughs really meant I didn't get to appreciate these games at all. He's saving that generation of games with these, for the kids and for those of us who couldn't access the experience.
It says so much about Dan that, when confronted by a dickish death message from the developers saying he sucks and blaming him in advance if they don't get a sequel, Dan responds by telling them not to worry and that it all works out for them.

I'm only 13, so I never got to experience old and revolutionary games like these. I have so much respect for them and I always try to play old classics like this when I have the opportunity. I just LOOOVED watching Dan play this, can we get more?
Take some time to play some of the classics! It's a bit of a struggle with some, if you're not used to them, but if you look at them in the context of when they were made, they truly changed how people thought. Minds blown. I remember playing the original Oregon Trail as a kid, and I was just amazed.
_benJman appreciate your fondness for the classics, mostly because without them we wouldn't have a lot of great games now, i'm 20 myself as of this year and i always enjoy a good classic game, i started with the Nintendo 64 as a kid and a lot of those games are pretty amazing for the times, i recommend a lot of them if you can find the system in a good condition and a tv it works with. anything rare-ware was pretty good during those times too before they got purchased by Microsoft. thank goodness some kids enjoy classic games now though, not a lot of kids seem to anymore, but good on you.

Firstly, get your key and leave the skimmer. When someone offers you money for the skimmer, refuse the offer. Wander around and when he makes another offer (money plus a jetpack), accept it [115]. Go north one screen. You'll see the side of a building. Walk around the back end so you are partially out of view to yourself. Search the ground and you'll find five more buckazoids (grab them, obviously). Go south again, go into the bar and buy a beer and drink it. Buy (and drink) one more beer. Now give the bartender your coupon (the game box has two little blue coupons in it, which are hints telling you that Roger is carrying two coupons even though they aren't listed in inventory). You'll get five buckazoids (hence getting the money you spent on the previous 2 beers back plus one extra buck) and a free beer. Drink the free beer and you'll hear someone mention seeing the Sarien ship the Deltaur in sector HH [120]. Now we need some more money, so go to the slot machine. Play until you break the bank and make B$250. Someone will offer to sell you something if you go behind the bar; don't go. Go left to Tiny's Used Spacecraft. Don't buy the ships on that screen; go to the back and buy the only ship on the screen behind [124]. As Tiny said, you'll need a droid to fly the ship so go right to Droids B Us. Buy the droid on the right at the back [128] and then head back to the ship that you bought. Enter the ship and push the load button to load the droid. Tell him to head for sector HH and soon you'll be in view of the Deltaur [153].
Danny won't ever read this, but I think it's so sweet he spent that time years ago wondering how Space Quest was going to do with the lovelies, and here I am constantly turning back to it as a source of comfort. When I'm sick, when the baby is driving me nuts, when my fiance and I fight, I come back here and I listen to Dan and we have a chill space time adventure, together.

There's actually another way to kill the Orat, which is what I did when I originally played it. If you go into the cave while the Spider Droid is still around, you can hide, and the droid will run into the Orat and self-destruct. I actually never knew about feeding it the can of dehydrated water.

IIRC, Theres also like a magnet or something he could have gotten to make the slot machine way easier. Basicly, it lets you cheat the machine.
You can actually romance orat and have children. Then you can clean the cave and basically do everything for orat while orat just sits around complaining how life is so hard and you end up committing suicide because you realize you made a horrible mistake

This is what I've been waiting for, another trip down Danny's memory lane, I always find it so interesting, I could never go back and play these games alone and enjoy them. But having Danny point of view and explanations as he plays makes it one of the best experiences in your life. (IMO)

Oh I agree, when I was referring to these games I was specifically speaking about the older games. I grew up with my dad playing these games as well, not so much Space Quest, but King's Quest I often saw a lot. So I think its partly that relation that makes me so interested in seeing Danny play them. A lot of the newer games by Lucas I'd definitely enjoy playing or have enjoyed playing.

Absolutely do more of these, Danny. I grew up playing Space Quest and King's Quest games with my family. My dad would run the keyboard while my mom, my sister, and I clustered around and made suggestions. Sharing these games with you now is super nostalgic for me.

I feel ya. A couple years ago I lost my dad unexpectedly, and pretty much everything else in my life fell apart shortly after. I was in a bad way and had a couple months where I was especially messed up. These playthrough videos helped calm my mind though. They gave me a sense of stability to help relax.

I think it's kinda heartwarming that Danny would usually preface these solo Sierra playthroughs by apologizing to the audience for the outdated graphics and gameplay; only for these videos to become some of the most beloved GG content ever. What makes a great playthrough is when the person playing the game genuinely loves the experience and that comes through in the video. It feels like you're there with them playing along. That's why these solo playthroughs are so cherished. We get to hang out with Danny as he relives a piece of his childhood. It's not done for laughs or trying to pander for views; it's just a very chill playthrough coming from a place of love. More Game Grumps content should use this template. I know for myself, I'd much rather see Danny or even Arin playing games they actually have a personal investment in; rather than whatever fad game they downloaded this week.
I do like seeing them (old gamers) seeing what comes to fruition. Like Arin finding a new game that fits his humor and Dan just being amazed that that type of game exists.

To be honest, I always hated the text-based sierra games as a kid. Playing "guess the verb" always annoyed me, so I stuck to the point-and-click ones. It's still so much fun to watch Danny play it, especially since he usually remembers exactly what you need to type.
That's how I feel. The fatigue from getting every other word wrong in an era with no walkthroughs really meant I didn't get to appreciate these games at all. He's saving that generation of games with these, for the kids and for those of us who couldn't access the experience.
It says so much about Dan that, when confronted by a dickish death message from the developers saying he sucks and blaming him in advance if they don't get a sequel, Dan responds by telling them not to worry and that it all works out for them.
I would love to watch you do more of this Danny. Its very satisfying and a fresh thing to see after Arin has a panic attack playing Sonic.

appreciate your fondness for the classics, mostly because without them we wouldn't have a lot of great games now, i'm 20 myself as of this year and i always enjoy a good classic game, i started with the Nintendo 64 as a kid and a lot of those games are pretty amazing for the times, i recommend a lot of them if you can find the system in a good condition and a tv it works with.

(Not being rude) I fall asleep to stuff on TH-cam and sometimes Gamegrumps, But they wake me up when they start yelling (Mainly Arin) So I try to find soothing Letsplays to fall asleep to. I remember a guy at a grump live show ask "What does it feel like to know 1000's of people fall asleep to your voice?" Every one was acting like he was trying to insult the grumps but i knew what he meant. 1000's of people do fall asleep to Grump Eps. For me its Forgotten Weapons videos. It's good content, its just super chill videos.
Firstly, get your key and leave the skimmer. When someone offers you money for the skimmer, refuse the offer. Wander around and when he makes another offer (money plus a jetpack), accept it [115]. Go north one screen. You'll see the side of a building. Walk around the back end so you are partially out of view to yourself. Search the ground and you'll find five more buckazoids (grab them, obviously). Go south again, go into the bar and buy a beer and drink it. Buy (and drink) one more beer. Now give the bartender your coupon (the game box has two little blue coupons in it, which are hints telling you that Roger is carrying two coupons even though they aren't listed in inventory). You'll get five buckazoids (hence getting the money you spent on the previous 2 beers back plus one extra buck) and a free beer. Drink the free beer and you'll hear someone mention seeing the Sarien ship the Deltaur in sector HH [120].
Now we need some more money, so go to the slot machine. Play until you break the bank and make B$250. Someone will offer to sell you something if you go behind the bar; don't go. Go left to Tiny's Used Spacecraft. Don't buy the ships on that screen; go to the back and buy the only ship on the screen behind [124]. As Tiny said, you'll need a droid to fly the ship so go right to Droids B Us. Buy the droid on the right at the back [128] and then head back to the ship that you bought. Enter the ship and push the load button to load the droid. Tell him to head for sector HH and soon you'll be in view of the Deltaur [153].
Danny won't ever read this, but I think it's so sweet he spent that time years ago wondering how Space Quest was going to do with the lovelies, and here I am constantly turning back to it as a source of comfort. When I'm sick, when the baby is driving me nuts, when my fiance and I fight, I come back here and I listen to Dan and we have a chill space time adventure, together.

Hey I'm Dan, I'm also Dan, DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN. I enjoy this intro. It means there's about to be a super chill playthrough I can really enjoy with some retro games that I missed out on when I was a kid. Good stuff Danny. I would definitely like to see more of this stuff. You've got some great stories and I really feel the nostalgia. Especially when you talk about being at a friend's house and not knowing when your mom is gonna be by to pick you up. That was too real, man. Stay classy, Dan.

i know this has been out for ages, BUT this is amazing, it helps me study and sleep. which i struggle with. Dan has such a soothing voice, and these space quest videos are just perfect to make me smile and at rest at ease. I love these too much x @gamegrumps
