This video is a precious historical archive! I'm a 69 yrs old Tetouanese, and it reminds me of my childhood. This was 2 years before our Independence. But I remember those years were when Moroccans were protesting for the return of the King from his exile in Madagascar, and he did. And my family was one amongst all Moroccan families who went out to the streets to protest against occupation. I was in the girl scouts, in spite of my young age... That's why I still remember! Thanks for this video!
Thank you for the kind words. I'm delighted to share this with you and your fellow Moroccans, this film would likely have sat forgotten if I had not found it. Do you know who the important person is in the car that departs at 5 minute 44 seconds?
It was impossible to see who was in the car. But due to the car looking quite official, it must have been Mouley Hassan ben Mehdi Alaoui , who ruled the north of Morocco while Mohammed V was in exile. When the came returned, he resigned and later was appointed governor of the Bank of Morocco. He remained governor until his death About 30 years later. He was the most humble personality who ever ruled!

@@LMSYAH Thank you! At what point in the film do we see Moulay El Hassan ben Al Mehdi?
Hej jag är från Tetouan. Jag tackar er för denna film.saludos de Suecia
This is wonderful! Thank you for giving me a glimpse into the past of my beloved city. I can’t tell when this was filmed. I was born in 1975 and this looks exactly like the city of my childhood years, especially the old Medina ( El Feddan) and ( Bab El 3oqla). The video also reminded me of the traditional dress for women ( el Hayek) and ( eltam) that are no longer worn. The bernous ( or cape) worn by some men in the video is also not in fashion anymore. I am sharing this video with my mum, who I am sure will have a lot to say about it. Thank you again for sharing!
Maha, I'm delighted. I hope your mum enjoys it as well. Please feel free to share from my channel, however I ask that no one copy it. I have had to deal with several individuals who felt it was their right to do this. I can assure everyone, I will have takedown requests initiated. I go to great lengths to preserve these film reels and to share them. Downloading/copying them and reposting as their own is wrong. Full stop.
Yes nowadays the women dont wear el hayek but much niqab alhamdulillah
Our beloved city.
This is one of the rare colored footage I ever seen if it wasnt the unique from the 50s era.
Thanks a lot.
Yassin, thank you. I plan on uploading more vintage films of Morocco as I work through my collection of film. I'm delighted you enjoyed it. Please feel free to share the film.
Soy de tetuan mi encanta este video 😊😊
Thank you for sharing this amazingly rare vintage with us and bravo !
I am personally amazed by the number of people and details I could use to decipher so many things. We have consistently studied history and probably watched many things similar here and there but this one is not only good quality but also amazing in terms of content.
I would also like to thank Laila EL KHATIB for the precisely description she had given. Allah Itawel umrek lalla🌷
Thank you. I too and delighted with the feedback, there are likely more details in the film that have not yet been revealed. It will only take the right people, likely seniors or elders from Tetouan to view it.
Tetouan is such a beatiful town. It's the most authentic of all Maghrebi-Andalusian medinas. Too bad that it's in such a bad shape today, in terms of cleanliness. But that comes with being as authentic as Tetouan is. It really does transport you back to 15th century Maghreb and Granada.
Yes thanks to the corrupt goverment
Thanks a lot for this Video from out lovely City, it meant so much to us
the important person in the 5:43 min is Hassan Ben Mehdi, he is the governor of the north morocco and the Spanish occupied territories in the south during the Spanish occupation 1925-1955.
Thank you for that merveillous pictures
First we must thank you for posting this gem and we ought to thank the woman with the burgundy coat because clearly she's one of the main reasons this video was ever shot,I'm just curious where you got it from, also im 29 and i can recognize most of the places that in appear in this video, you yourself if you are ever here by chance you will most likely recognize those places as well as they are almost intact.
Thank you. I have been collecting vintage 16mm home movies for many years, I'm now sharing the footage through my channel, with people everywhere. I have not yet visited Morocco, though I would like to one day.

@@meaningfullive476 You may certainly link it from this channel, what I ask of anyone is not to download it, edit and reupload as your own, I have had several instances where this has occurred resulting in takedown orders from Facebook and TH-cam. So, yes, please share from my channel. I look forward to sharing more rare film footage from your country. Thank you.

1954 is the year when the Moroccans watched the king Mohamed V drinking his mint tea on the moon. Oooh boy ! we were all amased when we saw him riding his Buraq to the moon like a German Nazi jet Messerschmitt Bf 109 !!

Spanish Morocco
Yes you are right. The Spanish protectorate consisted of a northern strip on the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar, and a southern part of the protectorate around Cape Juby, bordering the Spanish Sahara. The northern zone became part of independent Morocco on 7 April 1956, shortly after France ceded its protectorate (French Morocco). Spain finally ceded its southern zone through the Treaty of Angra de Cintra on 1 April 1958, after the short Ifni War. The city of Tangiers was excluded from the Spanish protectorate and received a special internationally-controlled status as Tangier International Zone. source: Wikipedia
I love watching dead people on film. 99.9999% of this clip are dead and gone. Yet here they are among us today.
Not really. children in this clip were between 5 to 10 years in 1954 so as of today 2023 they are between 73 to 78 years so many are still alive
