      We already do have GT1 racing. They're still racing some of the old GT1 cars in numerous competitions today. Do you mean GT1 by FIA ? GT1 by SRO?
      Unfortunately the only GT1 cars still racing are some of the old ones.
      That was not the charm of GT1
      The charm of GT1 was that every new hypercar would participate in GT1 racing.
      When Maserati mc12 came out we already knew that there's a hypercar class called GT1 for Maserati to race in.
      Just wait for club racing to evolve. Private racing is the future of sports car racing. That's where you can actually see modern hypercars racing. Not just the same old mc12 and Porsche GT1s racing again and again.

      @@daren42 I really do believe that private club racing will evolve into something similar. Maybe not at the same level but take what you have.
      Another good thing about club racing is the absence of BOP
      It's like going back to the GT1 of the late 90s.

      @@fyfyi6053 honestly we're just starting the cycle over again. The foundations for modern racing were set by privateers, who eventually became factory backed or outright bought up by a manufacturer. Now we're heading back into the realm of privateers being the top form of racing but make no mistake, the cycle will repeat itself.

    I saw the first one in the paint shop, it was alongside two monstrous 7.4 Litre Lister XJCs. I also saw them run at Le Mans, they would lap just a little slower than the fastest GT1 cars but, just like the Group C V12 XJRs, they were utterly relentless. The XJRs put in lap-after-lap at a blistering pace without missing a beat or making a fuss. Martin Brundle said that he felt invincible in an XJR because he was working half as hard as the other drivers that were racing him. The Jaguar V12 engine was specifically conceived to win Le Mans.

    • @chrisb8075
      @chrisb8075 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why then wasn't it put in a Le Mans car on it's conception? The first racing installation l recall was in the Broadspeed XJC 🤔

    • @glynnwright1699
      @glynnwright1699 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisb8075 Jaguar didn't go to Le Mans for many years, so it would have been quite difficult for them to race it when it was first designed.

      @@chrisb8075 The original V12 was the 4-valve unit in the XJ13, which was intended for Le Mans. When that did not work out due to a rule change, the engine was reworked and put in production cars with a 2-valve head. Then a few years later they started racing it with Broadspeed first, then TWR with the XJS, then TWR with the group C cars etc.

      Likely because more weight = more strain on the engine so it'll have been detuned for better reliability. GT1 regs were always more strict than Group C regs too. Air restrictors and all that, probably...

    • @zounds010
      @zounds010 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can see the air intakes on the Lister: those are tiny. The engine had to breathe through a restrictor. Group C raced without restrictors.

    • @fontheking5
      @fontheking5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All cars had to run air restrictors in the FIA GT championship, to even the plainfield, due to the many different types of engines and engine sizes, from the 6 liter Ferrari 550 GTS to 8 liter Viper GTS-R, and power was capped at around 600 hp for that reason.
      It has all to do with regulations
