Good to hear Kane with a West Country accent! It's an overlooked part of his background. Even though his travels took him all over the world and had him speaking a dozen different languages, there's always going to be something Devonian in his voice.

Very well done. Solomon Kane is one of the coolest of Howard's characters.

This story made me realise something:
For a long time, I had the impression that most of Robert E. Howards protagonists are variations on the same theme. Virtually all of them are great fighting men. And even in those stories, where it doesn't come up, it is still implied that they are both ready and perfectly able to use violence, should it be useful.
And all of them are barbarians - Those set in fictional or primordial times were clearly named as such, and those set in historical or his own time, are Irish or Irish-Americans - Before you draw the wrong conclusions, old master Howard clearly describes those characters as hard men, precisely because they are Celts, and because in the Celt he saw a reservoir of barbarian vigour. (And if anyone has any doubts, to Robert E. Howard being a barbarian was a GOOD thing). And though some of these characters have a sense of honour, others, like Conan (in the Queen of the Black Coast leaves his friend the Argosian skipper unavenged, for the chance of a kiss of Belit's lips) are decidedly pragmatic.
But enter Solomon Kane - He is none of those. Or rather. He is a great fighting man. But, he is an agent of civilisation. He travels the moors and marshes and drives out demons. He travels the interior of Africa and slays a horde of vampires. He follows a trail of Slavers on his own, just because he knows that slavery is wrong AS SUCH. Often he goes on quests of vengeance for someone who is already dead And finally, he is not a Barbarian (Or an Irishman - But see above), but he is often and consistently called an Englishman.
For once, it is not the raw vitality of the barbarian (Solomon Kane is not even a Cavalier but a Puritan) but the might of the civilised man that goes forth to triumph and a bright sunrise.

But at the end of the day these differences are just cosmetic .When you strip away the detail, you keep ending up with ' Nobel; wandering warrior fights evil monsters, bandits & wizards .

Solomon Kane is described both as a cavalier (moon of skulls) and a barbarian (wings in the night) it's also pointed out many times that while he sees himself as a puritan, that's not entirely true.

I am sure that, facing a person tortured, the thing closest to home that came to mind of a XVII century English puritan was the Spanish Inquisition.

Do you take requests at all?

Not so much requests, but happy to receive suggestions, unfortunately timing and copyright are factors we have to consider.
(eg. Someone suggested the Arthus world of warcraft book, alas that is under copyright and 600+ pages so that's not happening without permission from blizzard and funding for staffing)
