Hi, awesome project, do you reckon you could still transport the caravan with all the cladding on? or does it make it too heavy? you get any sagging from the edge of the chassis?
Hi sorry for the late reply, just saw this, yes you right to ask as its quite tricky, I would push the outer aluminium until I found roughly where the joist was then I would, use bottom of my fist/hand to sort of hammer the aluminium around the joist until i could see either side of the joist intended in the aluminium, I'd then mark the centre with a sharpie, also need to tilt your head to see the dents in the sunlight. It's quite tricky but you get good at it after a while.
Ah man me too, am working on the vids just now, next one to drop is our bedroom literally just waiting to get some good before and after pics (I'm living in it now so never clean enough for good pics lol). It'll be worth the wait though...
Hi! Thanks for the videos- they're really helpful as I'm about to clad my own static caravan. However, I'm not planning to change the windows on mine as I already have double glazing. This means that I only have about 20mm width to play with. Hum! Any tips? I was thinking about using aluminium bubble wrap insulation...? Also I'm hoping to sell it and move it at the end of the transformation. Do you see any reason why there would be difficulty moving it after it is clad? Thanks for your help! Much appreciated! This is pretty daunting.. x
Hi Antonia, thanks for the comment, delighted the videos are helping, I'm actually way behind with uploading them (quite new to editing n it's taken ages), the next video will definitely be of interest, it's how to seal the gutter, which takes me to my first question, will you be fitting 20mm studs/ battons to fix the cladding to or are you just planning 20mm cladding straight on, with the foil behind it? Foil insulation is not a bad idea and I did think of this as well so I'm sure will work. Do you windows protrude 20mm from the caravan hence you don't want to come out further? Funny you mention about moving it I might have to move mine to (nightmare🙄😐) if I do I'm going to look at adding another axle as mine is easily 2 tons heavier, I'm a bit worried about it bending as well as the extra weight but hoping the cladding will also stiffen it.
HI there! Thank you so much for the fast response! I wasn't expecting that. Very kind of you. Yes, I am looking forward to seeing the video of the gutter! Exciting life I lead! ; ) I had thought I"d put batons on first but you're absolutely right, I could just screw it straight on through the foil. That would be cheaper, faster and maybe lighter.... Hum! However I thought that if I used the batons perhaps the cladding could afford to be thinner- maybe even lightweight feather board. Also I am a bit concerned that if I screwed it straight on it might leak. Is there a way to avoid this? I didn't explain very well in my last message that the windows don't have sills protruding and yes they only protrude 20mm in total. Anything that protrudes further than that will cause leaks. I was surprised that yours weighs an extra two tons- I hadn't even considered whether the chassis could take it. Mine is in good condition which is good. It also means that if I get this wrong it's going to be the most expensive mistake I've ever made! So I'm very glad to have your advice! : ) Thanks again. @@MrYobo666
@@antoniawildmedia well your in luck I'm hoping to get the video uploaded later tonight or tomorrow definitely. Finished editing it n it's got some cracking background music now(in my opinion lol). So I see what your planning. I would definitely go with some kind of batton as opposed to screwing each board, depending on you budget you do get composite boards that made from plastic, I think these are put on with steel rails n the cladding clips to it, it's like shiplap boarding which is maybe the sort of thing you are planning but in wood, that stuff would also be a cheaper option and as the grooves are milled in away that means it only protrudes the thickness of it's self which with feather board could as little as 12mm-15mm I think. My caravan is a good bit heavier mostly due to the wood, it's fresh cut and soaking maybe be dry in a year or to haha, my chassis seems okay so I'm sure yours will be fine if it's okay to begin with. Are your boards going to be running horizontally? Glad to help😀
Hi again! Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for your video then when I come to do the job in the spring. Good to know that yours is heavy because the wood is wet and that you approve of the idea of using the feather board. So all good then! It's great to have someone to run this by and so far you haven't told me that you think I'm a nutter or barking up the wrong tree..and you haven't said it will leak so happy days, I think I'll go ahead! Thanks again! @@MrYobo666
Hi Jay, the cladding is 19mm/20mm, it's lapped in such away that overall stick out is 40mm, so total new stick out from existing caravan is around 78mm (38mm batton + 40mm cladding). The height of the walls are around 2250mm, I've just halved 4.8m boards n using 2400mm, just leaving the over hang... If you looking at the sort of sizes etc. N probably thinking how to seal all this up, I must urge you to watch my 'how to' gutter video, there's a 3D CAD model I've done about 3-4mins in and it will show you pretty accurately all the sizing and how to seal the overhang. If you use flashings you can come out as far as you like, doing it again I'd probably go 50mm wood and insulation.
Here's the gutter video, th-cam.com/video/AyZo0-ZPQ9s/w-d-xo.html You can message me about this if you want I'll send you drgs etc for get stuff made. Flashings are the better way to go but need sealed inside the gutter (Use WEATHERMATE SEALANT) Straight Flashing are only £15+vat Curved flashings are more expensive £50+vat
No defos not plaster, too heavy, liable to cracking, messy around the windows, wood panels can be taken of if broken. Wood can be refreshed with treatment etc.

Can I ask how you found the wall joists for fixing the batons to ?

Hiya.I was wondering if you have any idea how to attach a pvc porch to regular exterior material? Great job btw.
Probably weathermate sealant be the one. Very good sealant to use.
Thanks,ill keep that i mind.
Very impressed.
Love to know when you can show us the finished interia..

Looking good lads, did you pull the internal insulation?
How do mean pull the insulation?
Ah just got this, no left the internal insulation.

C20 YOB see if you were to do it again would you plaster it instead of wood clad it 🤔
