( I met Ruth Handler) I was privy to this Icon, in the early 60' s growing up on a block in Orange County Cal. I was allowed to play with 3 girls- Laura,Joanie and Amy, naturally all had Barbies. I was hooked, so as an adult I began to build my collection, now in 2019 to date has amassed to about 500 ,vintage and new, Gene Marshall dolls, Annette Himstedt, Celebrity dolls-- Got my Barbra Streisand ! And Farrah ( legendary red swimsuit ) Oh yeah can't forget Tippi from " The Birds"....LOVE them all.. !! Barbie has been such a passion and has helped me get through some very difficult moments in my life Bringing me happiness and peace of mind. Truly a Icon !

Interesting point Liquid Snake. My pseudo-macho uncle was infuriated by me playing Barbie with my cousins. I had no male cousins. So we played with Barbie. Upon meeting him sixteen years later, he was amazed at how large and manly I was. Turns out, playing with barbies doesn’t suppress your testosterone. What a shock my aunt dropped him like a hot rock. The most obvious reason to hate a boy’s interest in feminine things is a lack of security in the patriarch’s masculinity.
I collected barbies and have to say this is an impressive collection you've presented here. I thought maybe reproductions because they are so prestine. This collection worth alot. So much fun and so cool.
Its cool I have a twin sister when we were kids I'd play barbies with her all the time and of course me and her would also make like a town with my hot wheels and an old toy race track some of the most fun I had growing up.
Holy crap, dude. That collection puts my grandma's to shame. I mean, not mint in box, but like... They're in absolutely fantastic condition. I'm insanely impressed. Also the bit at the end was really important to me. I was really lucky my parents were understanding and supportive and let me play with trains and dinosaurs. Let kids me kids. Let them have fun and explore. As long as they're not using the toys to hurt others, gender has no rules with toys. ...unless it's super soakers. Then all bets and rules are off. All is fair in water and war. ;D (Also, while my Barbies might hot have fallen pray to volcanos, they sure did get sent back in time with dinosaurs a lot...) Thank you for sharing this with us!!
I'm a Barbie-holic as well!!! Also trying to buy my childhood back too 😔 I forgot Barbie's 60th birthday was this year! That means about 10 years ago I had my first "fancy Barbie," and became a sophisticated Barbie-holic. I also used to make Barbie togas and I was so awful at it because I couldn't find barbie sized anything to pin them certain ways that I liked. But years later when we needed to know how to do them in school I was the only one who knew and it was weird having to explain to a 40 year old teacher who hated anything feminine or any man not manly that I knew this valuable skill from scarves and safety pins and Barbie... but he was impressed! I am grateful my parents didn't keep me from playing with gender specific toys, because (as a girl) I just loved hot wheels cars, I had tons of them and it never seemed to even be questioned. I guess the stigma is more so on the inverse, "oh no! a boy with a Barbie doll!!" Friends did a whole episode about it!

One very tasteful display of vintage dolls. I wish I could do that, but I love too many different vintage dolls too much to pare it down to just that. You are one of those people that it's hard to not hate, because you look better now than you did in the Barbie Bazaar issue. I wish I could age so well. Also I love the color of your walls in your home, I have been actually planning a similar color scheme for my new home. I just dread all the work it takes. Gotta love this! Wanted you to keep traveling along telling more and more stories about your fantastic collections and youth and relating your life to your family. And, please know, that you aren't alone when it comes to diversified toys! I did have Maj. Matt Mason and the space crawler and blue plastic space bubble to be pulled behind it which is where I would put Matt's partner astronaut Steve (in the red spacesuit) so they could travel together! I ask for the red space rover/tractor and got it too so Steve could have his own vehicle. Matt and Steve were like my first images of a true modern couple so to speak! ...And, I also had the board game Mystery Date which I slipped into my mother's shopping cart at a department store! I was a sly kid at times! I loved playing Mystery Date and at school would play it with the girls! I loved the fellow in the white dinner jacket and prayed he'd be behind the door when I got to spin the knob and open it! Ah yes. Youth. We have it once, recall it forever. ...Thanks for another fun video upload! ...P.S.: I still have Matt & Steve and accessories!!!

My Barbie story: I started writing fanfiction starring some of my Barbie dolls as well as my sister's. I even wrote about Kira paired up with Disney's Aladdin. Happy 60th birthday Barbie! You were my greatest achivement in storytelling before I went Home Improvemrnt to anime. Don't forget the special editions, Cam! I've been wanting to collect them all.
Ohh you also mentioned Hot Wheels, did you ever have that motorized criss-cross track where you ran the car through the bumpers? I remember my friends and I had narrowed down which ones seemed to hold speed the longest and we had this Exxon car that seemed to take the cake. Every one should buy back their childhood.
