- After the recent rains I just had to visit Parys in the Free State, South Africa, to see how the water level has risen and what the many rapids on the Vaal river looked like.
Only one sluice gate was open at the upstream Barrage which made for average water flow downstream. Water was very dirty as could be expected after the rain.
Two fails on this trip. I forgot to press "record" when flying the second mission, and I flew the drone into a big tree. No permanent damage though but still a big scare.

So how was your visit to beautiful Parys?
Was really great! Thank you!
Thanks for your video, I am staying parys now, I’m foreigners but I like this small town
You are welcome Sanke. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Made my day! So lovely seeing my old hometown and some familiar places, one of which is my friends' lovely home close by edge where the guys was training. I've been living in the UK for nearly 17 years and it's truly amazing how much has changed in all thus time. Thank you very much for your time and commitment of all your videos, it's truly appreciated!
You're welcome Gerhard and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Plan a second visit to the lovely old town.
Thanks Dirk. The Parys Museum should be very interested in your work. First-ever aerial images of the town & surroundings. Helps to understand historical Gestalten one tries to complete but tends only to get lost in, the harder you try. Thanks for the lovely views we as old Parisians could only dream about.
Thank you Dirk. Parys is my hometown and I am sitting in the USA. I miss that place. Die Here seen jou.
Hahaha, I was waiting for the Ag Fok moment when you forgot to hit record but then you did it when you hit the tree. Great footage Dirk :D
Thanks for the vid I lived in Sasolburg 80s and had a few good time in Parys.
Dankie Dirk, ons bid saam julle oor Parys, so 'n pragtige plek.

Dirk you are awesome. I was looking at this area because a friend of mine visited. You explained everything so great straight and to the point with a lot of good information. Thank you for this great photography and mapping of PARYS. You paint a great picture of the place with your great detail. thank you
Thanks shogunMR, glad you enjoy the videos. Watch the channel for more this year.

Now I know who flew the drone around that day! Very nice footage!
Hey Zander, you must join me next time. Please Inbox me when the river is rising I need to do a follow-up please mate.
Pragtig. Thanx I'm from the Cape, never been to Parys. Blessings.
"Cut your throat for your cellphone". Sad but true. Welcome to South Africa.
Lekker Dirk, oppas vir rondloper bome 🙄
Good footage!
Question:
Can't you send up a second stationary drone, to give the first drone a new line of sight?
This way you can fly the first drone lower?
Lovely Dirk. Thank you. Love Parys.
Glad you enjoyed it
great footage what type of drone are you using
Glad you enjoy the videos Jona. I used a DJI Phantom 4 at the time.
Dankie Dirk. Dit was puik. Parys isse groter dorp uit die lug as wat mens sien vanuit 'n voertuig. Hoe ver is jou remote se sein reikwydte?
Hi JC Schutte. Reikwydte is 5km "line of sight".
Hi Dirk, great footage. I want to do my drone license too, who would you recommend to go through? (As I understand one must be licensed for certain drone applications, maybe you have more info 👍)
Glad you enjoyed the video Johan. I recommend Cranfield Aviation Training in Johannesburg. Note an RPL does not mean you will be operating legally.
Commercially you have to fly for a company with a valid ROC (RPAS Operating certificate) issued by SACAA (South African Civil Aviation Authority).
they should put you on the tourism board for those places...
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Glad you enjoy my videos Yusuf.
But you are showing us the river more than the city
Suppar
What the vaal was like before they filled it with sewage.
It always had sewerage, you uninformed fool !!!!!!!
NEATO
Fok Marilize ek se record.
What an ammateurish attempt. Get organised before you fly. This video is not about Parys. It is about the Vaal river at Parys.
You are misleading peaple about parys
