I’m pretty sure Wendi killed 5 kids outside of The Baby Showdown, successfully killed 26 babies in his first attempt at The Baby Showdown, and killed another 38 in his second attempt at it (which was successful). I just want to say, even though I’m only 4 hours in and you may totally have discussed this with someone later, but faith IS the game mechanic of faith- specifically in the second one. Choosing to go forth with faith and not believe the demons tricks means what you experience is reality- but if you lose faith and go along with the demons then they will make the insanity they’re trying to convince you of reality by recruiting you and having you do their bidding. That’s why to activate the letters that make you seem insane require you to do demonic actions, like becoming possessed, drawing pentagrams, and doing rituals. I think it’s amazing how well implemented it is, and watching the faith of streamers playing the game tested by finding the letters. It’s an amazing implementation of the core theme into gameplay, and watching it trick streamers shows just possibly it is for good people to be influenced by demons in their pursuit of truth.

Gets disfigured, boiled to paste etc. But he seems to be okay in the end. But I don't think he killed any children he is hallucinating but not a murderer or bad.

In faith 3 it’s because of demonic possession, which may be more a way of showing a demon than actual deformity. The one scene I’m curious about is when the demon possesses him in the stairway jumpscare at the apartments, which is seemingly scared out of him by what it sees

37:38 this hymn tune is one I associate heavily with worship and family and childhood and comfort, so hearing it in this context just made me deeply uncomfortable in a way that I've been struggling to articulate. Definitely goes to show how this game's use of imagery leaves a different impact on Christian players than on non-Christian players, I suppose. EDIT after watching the entire stream: A big part of that initial discomfort was fear that the imagery and surface-level theme of religion was going to be appropriated to sell the shock factor of a horror story, but Faith was so much better than that
in case you don't know, Airdorf the developer is a christian himself. So that definitely played a part in how well the subject of religion was handled in the game
I think you're the only other person I've seen play this game react to how horrific the second death ritual is. That is messed up, but also a cool way for Gary to let you know the answer to his riddle.
It fits the game honestly. Starts out light with john’s faith starting strong then gets darker as his faith in himself and in god lessens and then its light again when john redeems himself and regains his faith

I grew up in Eastern Connecticut. It's woods and farms and creepily named roads. Very little ever happens there, it's a drive-thru area. So it's kinda neat to hear towns that are familiar to me in media, even if it's a horror game. Though also a little eerie being able to visualize the actual locations where these things could happen.
If anyone noticed, during the chapters, John's cross changes colour, from Gold in 1, Silver in 2, and Bronze in 3. This is probably to show his gradually wavering in faith, or not idek, its still an interesting note though!

I was there for the whole 9h it was great. I still remember when he's about to finish chapter 1, he said he'll do chapter 2 and stop. Then he went on to fight demons for 9h.
To clarify on the chat member mentioning the SMT series: SMT is an old JRPG franchise that features a story with a heavy focus on philosophy. It also has many spin-off games including that of the Persona series. One of the main mechanics of the game is that of summoning 'demons' to fight your enemies who are also usually 'demons'. The term 'demon' is a catch-all term for basically any kind of entity, religious or otherwise. These include things ranging from traditional demons such as Beelzebub and Satan himself, the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, various Greek gods, even angels all the way up to prominent ones such as the Archangels Michael and Gabriel. Another main mechanic, at least in the main-line series, is that of choosing a path in the game typically aligning to a chaos/order/neutral system, though some games change this out for other similar systems. The games hold nothing sacred, but do treat most things with appropriate gravitas. They're more focused on telling an interesting story and inviting the player to ask themselves what philosophy they truly follow.
Unfortunately for me, I've only ever gotten to play Revelation: The Demon Slayer (which is a "Lighter and Softer" spinoff, featuring all the same mechanics, but not really featuring any of the philosophical quandaries, sadly), and I attempted to play the very first game (SMT1), but that was with Aeon Genesis's initial translation patch (which, unbeknownst to them, did not fix the Key Item Glitch), so I accidentally made the game unwinnable, and cheated to reach the end. But! What I was able to see was pretty interesting, and I have heard many people say that SMT 2 & especially 3 go into much deeper detail about all the philosophy, while also offering some compelling (if not rather difficult) gameplay, so I urge anyone reading these comments to check out those games if religious horror/philosophical horror are your thing. Thanks, OP, for your explanation! I'm sure Wendi would appreciate it.

I keep getting drawn back to this playthrough as a CT resident myself (the state where Faith takes place). There is always this omnipresent feeling that there's more than just the people and animals here that really does permeate thru the state; especially if you stare into the woods at night. I love how this game despite being so simple in terms of graphics, is absolutely perfect in its representation of how it feels to be walking thru the woods at night here; that sense of unease and that there's something incomprehensible just out of view. It keeps me coming back time and time again as I've honestly never felt such an accurate portrayal of just how eerie this small state can be.
I used to visit CT during the holidays (and I miss the plethora of Dunkin Donuts everywhere I turned, like churches in the south) and I remembered feeling very... closed in. I'm used to TN and the Appalachian mountains where you can get lost and not see anyone else for the rest of your life, but CT felt like no matter where I turned there would always be a town there. It's hard to explain the unsettling nature of that. Cause looking into the woods where I live is filled with the wild, but looking into the woods in CT was like something ELSE was there. Like just past the tree line was something waiting. That said, CT and TN are super different, but they're not so different that I didn't feel almost at home sometimes. I almost moved there, after all. Had better places to eat, haha.
I cant be anywhere near the woods at night without freaking out. I’m not spiritual in the slightest, but something about the atmosphere just flips so jarringly that I can feel that primal fear buzz in the back of my mind. Super creepy.

Random theory, I might be reading a little bit too much into it but whatever. I think the reason why the phrase "Gary loves you" is so prevalent is because Gary (or Satan/Satan's mind) is trying to emulate God's love towards his believers. But the Devil can't love because it doesn't know love. It tries to be as straightforward as possible but coming of as very forced, unlike the love of God that is natural and genuine. That's another reason why the begging phrase in the last boss fight of chapter 3 is so cool ("GARY DOES NOT LOVE YOU") because it's the Devil taking of it's mask of a benevolent being and showing it's true nature. Also, out of context, but I think the unholy trinity as an idea is very cool from a biblical standpoint. The Devil always wanted to become like or better than God, but it never succeeded with his own idea's so it decided to copy God (in the game for ex. it tries to emulate God's love). So it would make sense that, when God split it's self into 3 parts ( the trinity) Satan would try and do the same, but becasue he will never be like God he's destined to fail. P.S. Oh god I hate that the menu music is "Abide With Me" by Henry Francis Lyte. My grandma died in early August of this year, and my cousin and I sang a few songs during the funeral. Abide With Me was one of them, as it was one of her favorite hymns. I am not a religious man but I do believe in the power of song to carry more emotion than words alone could possibly express, and hearing the 8-bit rendition, and knowing vaguely the context of the games, just hit me like a ton of bricks. I just want to say, even though I’m only 4 hours in and you may totally have discussed this with someone later, but faith IS the game mechanic of faith- specifically in the second one. Choosing to go forth with faith and not believe the demons tricks means what you experience is reality- but if you lose faith and go along with the demons then they will make the insanity they’re trying to convince you of reality by recruiting you and having you do their bidding.
That’s why to activate the letters that make you seem insane require you to do demonic actions, like becoming possessed, drawing pentagrams, and doing rituals. I think it’s amazing how well implemented it is, and watching the faith of streamers playing the game tested by finding the letters.
It’s an amazing implementation of the core theme into gameplay, and watching it trick streamers shows just possibly it is for good people to be influenced by demons in their pursuit of truth.

@@Rahul_Sastry I believe when he get’s melted or horribly disfigured in faith 2 it’s because he’s in a dream. In faith 3 it’s because of demonic possession, which may be more a way of showing a demon than actual deformity.
The one scene I’m curious about is when the demon possesses him in the stairway jumpscare at the apartments, which is seemingly scared out of him by what it sees

Definitely goes to show how this game's use of imagery leaves a different impact on Christian players than on non-Christian players, I suppose.
EDIT after watching the entire stream: A big part of that initial discomfort was fear that the imagery and surface-level theme of religion was going to be appropriated to sell the shock factor of a horror story, but Faith was so much better than that
in case you don't know, Airdorf the developer is a christian himself. So that definitely played a part in how well the subject of religion was handled in the game

I grew up in Eastern Connecticut. It's woods and farms and creepily named roads. Very little ever happens there, it's a drive-thru area. So it's kinda neat to hear towns that are familiar to me in media, even if it's a horror game. Though also a little eerie being able to visualize the actual locations where these things could happen.
If anyone noticed, during the chapters, John's cross changes colour, from Gold in 1, Silver in 2, and Bronze in 3. This is probably to show his gradually wavering in faith, or not idek, its still an interesting note though!
In the true ending it becomes gold again indicating that his faith has been restored

I was there for the whole 9h it was great. I still remember when he's about to finish chapter 1, he said he'll do chapter 2 and stop. Then he went on to fight demons for 9h.
To clarify on the chat member mentioning the SMT series:
SMT is an old JRPG franchise that features a story with a heavy focus on philosophy. It also has many spin-off games including that of the Persona series.
One of the main mechanics of the game is that of summoning 'demons' to fight your enemies who are also usually 'demons'. The term 'demon' is a catch-all term for basically any kind of entity, religious or otherwise. These include things ranging from traditional demons such as Beelzebub and Satan himself, the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, various Greek gods, even angels all the way up to prominent ones such as the Archangels Michael and Gabriel.
Another main mechanic, at least in the main-line series, is that of choosing a path in the game typically aligning to a chaos/order/neutral system, though some games change this out for other similar systems.
The games hold nothing sacred, but do treat most things with appropriate gravitas. They're more focused on telling an interesting story and inviting the player to ask themselves what philosophy they truly follow.

Unfortunately for me, I've only ever gotten to play Revelation: The Demon Slayer (which is a "Lighter and Softer" spinoff, featuring all the same mechanics, but not really featuring any of the philosophical quandaries, sadly), and I attempted to play the very first game (SMT1), but that was with Aeon Genesis's initial translation patch (which, unbeknownst to them, did not fix the Key Item Glitch), so I accidentally made the game unwinnable, and cheated to reach the end.
But! What I was able to see was pretty interesting, and I have heard many people say that SMT 2 & especially 3 go into much deeper detail about all the philosophy, while also offering some compelling (if not rather difficult) gameplay, so I urge anyone reading these comments to check out those games if religious horror/philosophical horror are your thing.

I keep getting drawn back to this playthrough as a CT resident myself (the state where Faith takes place). There is always this omnipresent feeling that there's more than just the people and animals here that really does permeate thru the state; especially if you stare into the woods at night.
I love how this game despite being so simple in terms of graphics, is absolutely perfect in its representation of how it feels to be walking thru the woods at night here; that sense of unease and that there's something incomprehensible just out of view.
It keeps me coming back time and time again as I've honestly never felt such an accurate portrayal of just how eerie this small state can be.
I used to visit CT during the holidays (and I miss the plethora of Dunkin Donuts everywhere I turned, like churches in the south) and I remembered feeling very... closed in. I'm used to TN and the Appalachian mountains where you can get lost and not see anyone else for the rest of your life, but CT felt like no matter where I turned there would always be a town there. It's hard to explain the unsettling nature of that. Cause looking into the woods where I live is filled with the wild, but looking into the woods in CT was like something ELSE was there. Like just past the tree line was something waiting.
That said, CT and TN are super different, but they're not so different that I didn't feel almost at home sometimes. I almost moved there, after all. Had better places to eat, haha.
I cant be anywhere near the woods at night without freaking out. I’m not spiritual in the slightest, but something about the atmosphere just flips so jarringly that I can feel that primal fear buzz in the back of my mind. Super creepy.

Random theory, I might be reading a little bit too much into it but whatever. I think the reason why the phrase "Gary loves you" is so prevalent is because Gary (or Satan/Satan's mind) is trying to emulate God's love towards his believers. But the Devil can't love because it doesn't know love. It tries to be as straightforward as possible but coming of as very forced, unlike the love of God that is natural and genuine. That's another reason why the begging phrase in the last boss fight of chapter 3 is so cool ("GARY DOES NOT LOVE YOU") because it's the Devil taking of it's mask of a benevolent being and showing it's true nature.
Also, out of context, but I think the unholy trinity as an idea is very cool from a biblical standpoint. The Devil always wanted to become like or better than God, but it never succeeded with his own idea's so it decided to copy God (in the game for ex. it tries to emulate God's love). So it would make sense that, when God split it's self into 3 parts ( the trinity) Satan would try and do the same, but becasue he will never be like God he's destined to fail.

Oh god I hate that the menu music is "Abide With Me" by Henry Francis Lyte. My grandma died in early August of this year, and my cousin and I sang a few songs during the funeral. Abide With Me was one of them, as it was one of her favorite hymns. I am not a religious man but I do believe in the power of song to carry more emotion than words alone could possibly express, and hearing the 8-bit rendition, and knowing vaguely the context of the games, just hit me like a ton of bricks.
The first verse's lyrics are clearly someone on death's door reaching out to God in their final moments:
