How to Spray Pecan Trees, Terminator Sprayer, Pecan Orchard Management

  • In this video, we spend a day doing pecan orchard maintenance. The first thing we do is weed-eat a circle around the base of the trees. We then spray round-up around the base of the trees. We do this for a couple of reasons, first the tree does not have to compete for nutrients and water with the grass and weeds. it also allows the micro sprinklers to work effectively and distribute water evenly. Third, it allows for ease of harvesting when the nuts fall on the ground. After we bale hay in the orchard, we will then come back and actually make lanes like we've done in past years. This year we're running behind. From there, we will spray Zinc and Warhawk Insecticide using the Terminator Sprayer. The drone footage is from our DJI Mavic Mini.

    Those trees are looking good and round up where you have to, all of that herbicide does the same thing, but they always appear to target certain brands that sell well. You have had a busy time friend and it is almost Memorial Day July 4th around the corner too. Thanks for sharing!

    Hey, I enjoy watching your videos! I also have 150 pecan trees and a weekend warrior. If you don't mind me asking, what is your mix rate per gallon in your terminator sprayer tank for zinc and insecticide? I have a titan a1 sprayer and I am curious. Thanks

      Hello, thanks for watching. I don’t know the mixture off the top of my head. However, we have bud break and will be spraying within the next week. We will have full video on spraying zinc with formulas and all. Thanks. More to follow.

    What is the best fertilizer to use on your pecan trees

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, They really crave Zinc. We spray that on the leaves at least 3-4 times per year. We also put out a general purpose fertilizer late winter. Such as 12-12-12 or 13-13-13. Thanks for watching.

    Hi again. I decided to go buy an A1 sprayer! I’m sick of the pecan pests and will win that war. I see u have the terminator. Know how that differs from the Scout model? I’m thinking about the Scout version. Also - did you buy yours locally or did you have to get it from the company in Nebraska? Trying to see if other sellers have it or if it’s only from the company directly. I’ll list you as a referral if I buy it since your info in the videos has been extremely helpful. They have a referral program

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I’m not familiar with the scout model. We bought ours from local Kubota/implement dealer. But they ordered directly from the MFG and had it shipped to their store. I would order direct Please mention my name if you go that route. Thank you and good luck.

    Can those sprayers typically be rented? I have 9 40 year old trees and don’t see it worth buying a sprayer. And will that spray really high? The trees are tall given their age.
    Last, does the chemical you’re using treat for pecan weevils?
    Thanks so much!
    Enjoyed the video

      Hello Sir. I agree not worth buying for small number of trees. We split ours with another orchard our size. If you have orchards in your area, you might be able to hire them to do it. Other option is to buy a really good wand sprayer that will shot 30’ and do it yourself. Just make sure the wind is blowing right. Haha

    Have you ever used tree protectors? Are they necessary? Also thanks for the Terminator suggestion. I have been looking for a sprayer that doesn't sot a ton of cash.

    • @HeritageFarmsTexas
      @HeritageFarmsTexas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, yes we used tree protectors when the trees were smaller. We were told that once the bark gets rough, you don’t need them.
