Great commentary; I got mine in the mail a few days ago. Glad I waited and ended up with the MAX!!

Got this thing recently. While it is a shame you can't use regular bits with this, it is nice having something not leatherman to be able to use the flat bits. Though you can use the flat bits in the regular bit bar (the bit adapter area is just deep enough to catch onto them), they are held in way more securely with this version.
I also like that you can switch out the outer case on the regular bit bar and use the max version's outer case with it (which doesn't really change to much of anything but neat to be able to do).

It would be perfect if they made it with a 1/4 hex drive that could fit standard bits, leatherman bits, and wiha double sided bits.

They purposely made it to work with the Leatherman bits. I think it was a genius move (double sided) a lot of dudes carry that Leatherman Charge. This is a great supplemental tool.

I think I prefer the original, which I have, since the original took original bits. The fact it could store more bits wasn't a selling point for me since my bits were in another container or a small ziploc. But I don't like the trend of flat bits and double-sided flat bits. That's bad on two counts imo. First is being able to replace them. Second is that they likely aren't going to be at the same versatility and usefulness of normal Wera bits as an example.

They were so close to making this a perfect EDC screwdriver. If only they made it so that it could use regular hex bits as well, then it would've been so much better.

It's a shame they didn't put a slot for regular hex bits on the opposite end. I guess you could always get an attachment to use those bits but that also kinda defeats the purpose of having everything compact in one piece.

I just tried several of the Leatherman bits both in the storage part and in the end and they are EXACTLY the same length and width. They all work perfectly :)

I have the original in my opinion I prefer the standard bits it gives a 1/4 in nut driver with no bit installed I hate the flat leather man bits personally

I prefer standard bits too. I look at this tool as something to have on me in a pinch. And with the flat bits I’m better prepared for anything. If I know I’m tearing something apart, I’ll be using a more substantial tool set.
