  • My pool wall failed and the pool is being replaced. Unfortunately after draining it we have had weeks of rain and it is starting to fill back up. So, I picked up a Harbor Freight Drummond 1/3 HP pump to get the water out for the contractor. Lets see how it does, how long it takes, and one step you always need to make sure and follow when pumping water.

Thanks. I'm always trying to think outside the box if it can save a few $$

So I'm getting ready for Debbie, and I've had one of these waiting around for a rainy day. The instructions say it will turn on when the water it's in gets 1" deep and then turn off when it's 1/4" deep. Is this right? Mine just turns on when you plug it in and off when you unplug it. Is there a float valve in there that is stuck or something? I'm trying to avoid taking it apart only to find out the manual lied to me. Any info would be much appreciated.

The model I have is just plug it in and it's on nonstop. The manual may be generic to cover multiple models, which some may have an automatic feature. Always watch your water level, if it runs dry it'll burn up before you know it.

I wanna try this with the 1/6 Drummond pump I bought. The water is very dirty from all winter and deeper than the pump. I wanna zip tie mesh around the whole unit to protect it. Do you think that will work to keep it free of debris. Can the pump be submerged over the top of it?

Yes the pump is submersible. Just make sure the mesh isn't right against it. If enough water isn't flowing into it fast enough, it will burn up. So make sure it has some sort of buffer around it.
