    2:40 I cannot configure on int g1/0/1 the encapsulation dot1q it says "SW1(config-if)#switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    % Invalid input detected at '^' marker."
    Googled a bit and found out this answer "The reason you don't get a choice is probably because the switch only supports dot1q encapsulation so there is no choice to be made.
    You would only get a choice if the switch supported both ISL and dot1q." - that's kind of odd since you use the same packet tracer lab and have the auto fill encap... command. I did sh int g1/0/1 sw command and it says "Administrative Trunking Encapsulation: dot1q ; Operational Trunking Encapsulation: dot1q"

    Unfortunately I had forgotten how to configure vlans and such since its been 2 months almost since I saw those lectures. Im trying to finish it quickly so I can review.
    BTW Jeremy, it would be awesome if you could add inbetween labs every few lectures (say a week) that would require configuration from all the past 7 days. Maybe have a 20 day one too. That way we can review and not forget stuff after watching 70+ videos. I think that would help both the people and the course!

    17:23 As far as I understand untagged packets always forwarded to native vlan right? Then if we assume there is a vlan 20 on switch 2, because of native vlan mismatch we would be sending the packet to the wrong destination?

However, for the last question in Boson, I can't tell what difference between the above situation, why the frame will be untagged?

    • @JeremysITLab
      @JeremysITLab  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No additional configuration should be required, assuming you're using my lab file. If you use my lab file and configure it exactly as I do and it still doesn't work, it might just be packet tracer acting up.

    • @wolfferoni
      @wolfferoni 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same issue. When trying to configure int g1/0/1 with "switchport trunk encap dot1q", the switch says invalid input and only shows the native and allow commands for some reason as valid options so that might be it.

    • @mr.nobody6085
      @mr.nobody6085 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been having the same issue here, until I figure out you need to input: encapsulation dot1q vlan-number on the subinterface first.

    • @kbkeeto
      @kbkeeto 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know this is coming two years later, but I did the lab without specifying 'switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q' on SW1 G1/0/1 interface. The IP Phones did not get their phone numbers. I then specified what encapsulation to use on the trunk port G1/0/1 interface, followed by 'switchport mode trunk'. The IP Phones then received their phone numbers just fine. I assumed because the trunk link formed fine without any encapsulation errors I didn't need to the 'encapsulation dot1q' command on interface G1/0/1. Like Jeremy said, this is probably packet tracer acting up. Hope this command helps people in 2024 and beyond

    Hi Jeremy,
    On the last step. I didn't expect the ping to work.
    The destination PC is in VLAN 10, so I expect it to tag it with VLAN 10. Since PC2 (VLAN 20) is sending traffic to PC3 (VLAN 10), Switch1 should tag the traffic with VLAN 10's ID, not leave it untagged.
    The native VLAN configuration on Switch1's f0/4 interface (VLAN 20) only applies to untagged traffic received on that interface. When Switch1 forwards traffic from VLAN 20 to VLAN 10, it should tag the traffic with VLAN 10's ID.
    Could you kindly explain why it worked?

  • @ronaldyeager6360
    @ronaldyeager6360 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I tried to configure this Boson setup in PT. Using 2960 switches. Unfortunately I cannot get untagged pings to VLAN hop. I tried this after a Boson ExSim question got me on this. I can get the PC's in the same VLAN to ping across the trunk, but after mismatching, I cannot get the VLAN hop of non-tagged traffic. In the simulation mode, I see ping being sent from sw A native trunk VLAN to the PC in the same VLAN on sw B rather than to the "native" VLAN on the trunk. Ugh!

    • @ronaldyeager6360
      @ronaldyeager6360 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In GNS3 I see spanning tree status on the trunk interface as BKN* Frustrated. Gonna have to try actual switches next.

    • @ronaldyeager6360
      @ronaldyeager6360 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So, looking at the simulation mode in PT, I see that with mismatched native vlans on the trunk, there is a problem. When PC1 attempts to ping the IP address of PC4, the arp request executes, then the switch recognizes that the MAC address for PC4 is in a different vlan and drops the request, so no arp resolution happens and the ping fails. Ideas? Again, I have live equipment that fails this process too. Is Boson wrong? I would hate to go into a CCNA test with wrong information!

      There will be a QoS lab. But QoS configuration isn't on the CCNA exam topics list, and we didn't cover it in the lecture video.

    There no power command on the mobile version so I couldn't experiment with PoE :(

      The mobile version is even more limited than regular packet tracer, and I think Cisco have stopped supporting it. If possible, find somewhere to access a PC to try it out!

    Hi Jeremy,
    Thank you for the awesome lab
    Why is it that switch port g1/0/3 is an access port but switch port g1/0/1 is a trunk port but they are carrying traffic from the same number of vlans? Please answer this question.
    Thank you
