These are just my opinions and what i think of when i think of each class in the game but also advice on which class id recommend as your starter class to make the game easier for yourself in the long run
Just a caveat to anyone looking to start P99; never pick a pure melee class (warrior, monk, rogue) as your first class. When I played on live I played a rogue as my first class and as a result I never had the appropriate gear for my level which meant A LOT of waiting around while getting passed over for groups. 90% of the time it took me to reach level 60 was spent looking for a group.

Thanks for this vid. I’ve heard of everquest as the predecessor to WoW, a game I’ve played and enjoyed very much in the past, but I just stumbled upon Project 1999 by chance. It really reminds me of Old School Runescape in terms of why people willingly play an older version of a multiplayer game, and the real sense of community and interdependence that they can create
Now that all mmorpgs are not mmorpgs anymore. This game is the only way to scratch that itch without getting bored. Anybody sick of modern mmorpgs need to come back to this. Make EQ big again!!
i feel ya. i played WoW more than EQ but i love EQ way more than WoW. so ive seen both types and the ever present danger of EQ is the way to go
@@SinnycoolGames I've been thru many many mmorpgs. And they feel dull. It's that feeling of constant suspense EQ hits you with. Makes the game feel great as soon as you start a char. Just like soulsborne.👌👌
As a rogue. You can circle strafe to a backstab if you get around them before the server moves them to face you. It's good times.

You completely missed talking about Haste as an Enchanter. They have the best haste in the game.

Bruh, swarm kiting and aeo/circle kiting are 2 different things. And druids can't do a little of everything. They can't tank. Bards can tank for a large number of levels. And thank you for pronouncing sow properly. Too many people pronounce it like a female pig. For enchanters you didn't mention illusions or faction changing spells that make race choice mostly irrelevant. Bards can track, too. And pick locks I think. Bards level up the fastest by far. You also didn't mention evac. Believe its just wizards and druids get evac spells. Real good video btw.
i dont know much about bards so you might be right. was my opinion based on what i know. great comment tho most people would write it all angry i like your approach
Druid is a pretty easy pick. You can solo to 60 with no money or gear. You can also make money porting people, which you can use to buy better gear. And if you raid, it is super easy to get around porting to the many raid targets. However... druids kind of suck in raids. So you will want another toon soon. But you can really learn the game on a druid and make money.
If you are in a raid guild and want to raid, then a rogue is worth leveling... but it is VERY gear dependent. At a bare minimum you need a fungi (40k). To level solo like you probably will need to, you need some nice weapons, too. So play a druid, make some money, twink a rogue... win. But for some perspective, I leveled my rogue to 48 solo in like 3 weeks and he was wearing almost a million plat in gear that I bought with DKP from raiding on my druid.
If you are not in a raid guild, I would recommend a shaman next. But you will need money for this toon, too. JBB, spells, epic MQ are gonna cost you. So Druid first, farm the plat, then twink a shaman. A shaman can then farm a lot of plat easily.
As for race... if you are playing a class that can be an ogre... play an ogre. If you can't be an Ogre but you can be an Iksar, be an Iksar. If you can't be an Ogre or an Iksar, it probably won't matter that much and just play what you like.

Shaman is second-best at everything. They can heal, but they have the slow and debuffing spells to weaken an enemy. They can buff themselves and wade into melee. They’re second only to a necro for DoTs. They have HoTs like a cleric. They have Regen and SoW like a Druid. They can root for crowd control. Their nukes are only beat by the wizard at high levels. They also wear chain, unlike all of the other pure casters. With alchemy, they can make potions that do almost everything other casters can, from disguises to clarity and damage shields. And they can also turn hit points to mana, like a necro.
Shaman is by far the easiest to solo with.
@almitrahopkins1873 Shaman nukes are garbage what are you talking about? Their damage overall is not good. What makes them great soloers is their ability to debuff mobs.

Necro / Mage are easily the most forgiving and easiest classes to start. Fun video.

great video. Druids are so strong in classic they are basically un matched outdoors. Just label them as the best outdoor class period. They can charm quite good in classic even during raid fights. DPS is actually really good in raids too! Their healing is obviously decent. End game classic druids are busy farming plat!

Necromancers are one of the best solo classes in the game. Because of this, most people never group with them. Like Sinnycool said... he leveled his necro to 60 without ever grouping. This is why necros get a bad rep. Most people who play them do not know how to play them in a group. They are actually pretty great in groups if played well. They have a VERY diverse skill set. They are actually one of my favorite classes in the game to heal on. You can't heal raids, but you can heal 6 man groups in places like KC. They can also feed mana to healers via twitches so the healers don't go out of mana. You can also charm undead and do a lot of damage in a group. In fact, you can do a lot of damage while healing people and doing CC. They are pretty great if played well and I have never had trouble making friends on my necro and getting group invites. Necros are kind of at their weakest when they are only DPSing and not charming in groups. I always keep heals on my bar and help heal so the real healer doesn't need me to twitch them.
yeah necro plus shaman is OP been there on my shaman with a good necro
@@SinnycoolGames Yep, with a shaman slowing, a necro can easily heal a 6 man while still DPSing.
So cool bro. I just started a week ago from not playing for maybe 15 years. I played before but in the beginning in 1999. Made a Necro and was lucky enough to be invited to your guild. Necro name is Slagen. It’s been great and hitting all the nostalgia points. 👍🏻

Bard is the most objectively broken class in P99. If somebody put a gun to my head, I could probably solo to 60 in three or four days with a bard in P99. Enchanter is not even a close second to a bard in that capacity. That said, bard has one of the highest skill thresholds. Regarding wizard, I mained a wizard back in classic through velious, and yeah, it's a rough ride. Unless you know exactly where to go, you're never going to solo anything without jboots, and even when you get them, the downtime is horrendous. With jboots I could solo a yellow at level 45 or so -- but at the same level with a bard I can literally solo forty red conning mobs in 20 minutes.
The bard has track also, plus charm, plus it has a mez under 35 that is probably one of the most overpowered spells in the game, it just permanently locks down every mob within a radius for as long as you keep singing it. The bard also wears plate armor. And it has a crippling experience penalty, not that it matters if you swarm kite.
i can see that. i think wizard is on wow right where you can solo to max level really fast with the right camps and strats? bard always been scary for me especially on this touch pad laptop i use haha. respect to you
@@SinnycoolGames Maaaayybe, I don't know, you CAN quad kite, but not until you reach a higher level. You would probably need jboots and you have to use your mana to run around and snare four mobs, then use your AoE to nuke them down, but if there are resists, then you probably won't kill them all and you'll have to zone or sit back down and med for a long time. Resists eventually become a big issue when one spell takes a quarter of your mana. Maybe if you could master it and knew the right place and had great equipment, you could level somewhat fast. But I can't imagine you could level faster than an enchanter or a necro or a mage. It's just a lot of work. The bard is a lot of work but you get such a high reward each time. With the wizard you'd have to do something similar on a smaller scale, and you just don't get that much of a reward. It's big down time, and then a lot of work when you're up, very mentally taxing. And without jboots, is it even worth it? I doubt it. I feel youd be better off with a druid. Even with jboots I burned out before I hit 50 in Kunark. But strategies weren't as developed back then, I don't know if many wizards actually knew to quad kite, I mostly viewed those AoE spells as useless in 2000 or 2001. I don't think bards had figured out swarm kiting then either, and the server lag probably wouldn't have allowed you to do it. That said, wizard was a powerful duelist from what I experienced. I would blink away, root, and start nuking, and usually it wouldn't be more than one regular damage spell and two nukes to win, or one regular spell and a nuke to kill a caster. But I heard later on people with high magic resist could beat wizards, so I dunno. I was an erudite wizard with all points into INT. They are a glass cannon for sure
i beg to differ, for a first timer coming back to eq after more than decade. i played a bard and only hit level 18 after a month plus.
@@nelc2399 depends on if you swarm kite or not, if you don't then its gonna take forever. You also can't swarm kite on live and TLPs

Did you know Agile frog has light brown, reddish-brown or grey-brown back? Dark brown triangular-shaped markings stretch from the temple to the eardrum. Hind legs are covered with dark bands. Bottom side of the body is white in color. Males change color of the body into dark brown during the breeding season.

Nice breakdown
You keep talking about movement. Shaman get SoW at 9 and druids at 14. Bard get selos at 5, but all classes can get J-boots. I got J-boots as soon as I hit 30 in south ro for all my toons. I started with a wizard and bard. The bard can kill pretty much anything that doesn't summon unless you can get fear to stick on it. Run speed after a while isn't a problem for any class.

My ex introduced me to this game, specifically the Al'Kahbor project version. My first character was a Shaman but I hate the idea of losing my stuff, so I hope this video will help with figuring out a more stable and easier class.
so necro is my favorite class and it has many ways to escape death. feign death, a pet, root, fear, snare, etc. highly recommended just watch my playthrough or tutorials
Bard is (was) my main when I played from 99 to 2015. I just recently picked EQ back up, in the form of a single player private server. If anyone wants bard tips and tricks, I'm happy to help

@SinnycoolGames bard as a class just feels like so much fun as a game character. You have access to sooooo many just awesome abilities and skills/spells when compared to other video game characters. Every class leaves a little wanting, the bard needs more dps and/or more tankiness, just like comparing the EQ necromancer to other games necros. The EQ Nec is loke the best, but they need to be able to have an army of undead that isn't just swarm pets.. because that's a huge part of what makes necros in other games awesome as heck.

glad you enjoyed it! some didnt like my takes but its all opinion and my exp with the game and just how i see it.
Experience penalties existed because experience penalties existed in 2nd edition DnD which was the edition out when EQ came out. Paladins and Rangers and other hybrids, and some race/class combinations, had exp penalties.
I remember that, and while I think 2nd Ed. AD&D may have been the inspiration for it, clearly the racial bonuses in EQ were the cause for the penalties.
i kind of liked it. if you wanted to pick a class that would be harder to level and people would be like DAMN a 60 Troll SK WOW but people are babies these days and want things to be easy and fair

Wizards also have a long cool down canni called harvest, but i dont think it has an hp cost.

The hybrid penalty has been gone since 1 month after velious launch. Some of the things you said in this video are incorrect. No offense but you probably aren't the person to be explaining most of the classes. If I were you I would've done some research before making a video about all the classes. Shadowknights are the best group tank, Warriors can't hold aggro as well as a shadowknight can. Enchanters are the best at soloing.
