Nice explanation and research on solar ready equipment. The only contact I've had is with backfed breakers installed by others. My solar knowledge is somewhat limited. Thanks Bill.
Good morning, Don! Hope you guys had a great 4th! Yes, the tech support by Square D was very good on this one. I really didn't know what the max solar input was when using the solar ready lugs. My suggestion to Square D would be to include factory installed phase lugs on the studs and not make us do it. I really like the lineside insulating barrier. That's a nice feature.

Thank you for all of the information, Bill. I found this to be a very informative video and you did a very nice job of explaining everything. I'm looking forward to the video with the solar lug installation.
Thank you, Most interesting and informative video I've enjoyed in a very long time, First off, that panel is ideal for all applications and really should have been the norm, back in the late 80s in all commercial and residential residents. Thank you for your technical information and look forward to seeing more of your professional content!
Where I am the electric company requires the meter base to have a lever bypass. Which makes a $50 dollar meter base instead cost $400. When upgrading 100amp to 200amp, I ended up having to make many unexpected changes.
Wow. What area is that? When I went to our town meeting about the city changing from overhead SEC to underground SEC, I noticed what seemed to be a complete lack of concern on the part of the city about whether people could afford to upgrade their panels and move them outside. They wouldn't even give a break on the cost of permits even though the homeowners were forced to get the permit.
I am hoping to install a similar panel but ringless and lever bypass. Only 1 reseller has them like this and they are dragging their feet on shipping it out. Excited for the huge solar capacity on it. 😀
Hi Bill. 2/0 service entrance cable can be used in some instances for a 200A panel. Sometimes a larger size would be necessary. 2/0 SEC would be great for 100A or 150A panels. My point was, you run the SEC in the panel's gutter, which is a very nice feature of the panel.
Solar inverters are utility interactive. Without a solid utility voltage signal, the inverter shuts down and goes into anti islanding mode, preventing any backfeed.
Incorrect, The solar is on the line side of the main breaker and will only work with utility power. The automatic transfer switch will not sense the solar since it'll be non operational and the generator will not back feed the solar on the line side of the transfer switch. Simply at the solar connection disconnect it going to the main breaker and fed it to the transfer switch then the load side of the transfer switch feeds the main breaker. Hopefully that makes sense.
the fact that manufacturers are pushing regulators into requiring people to put their gear outside, and then charging a premium for equipment that will actually survive outside is annoying to me. my state has actually rejected the universal requirement for the outside disconnect, which I am happy with. I've actually seen an aluminum bus breaker panel not make it from rough-in to trim-out without having to have the backplane replaced.
Hi Ken! I think the states like CA and AZ want the gear outside so that they can have easier access. But as you say, it gives the homeowners and contractors problems.
@SparkyChannel yes, it's officially so the fire crew can shut it off in an emergency. But i think there's enough added risk to make it preferable to have an inside disconnect back to back with the meter. With them being mild steel, surface mount is the way to go. It saves at least an hour every time you have to change it out.
@@kenbrown2808 You must be in a beautiful location. I worked on a townhome in Dana Point, CA with a great view of the ocean for a while. The rust and termite damage were amazing!
@Sparky, and Qualified Electrician's... Is this new Elon Musk Device Really Work ? Or is it another Gimmick, fake Snake oil salesman scam ? One of those Plug into an outlet and in 6-8 weeks save over 100.00 bucks on your Electric Bill....lol
Unfortunately, it is bunk, and the scammers are just stealing Elon Musk’s name and image, he is not involved in any way. lf something like that actually worked, it would not need to be sold through sketchy websites and would be available in every hardware store nationwide.
To the point you believe it necessary comment and perhaps to discourage him from producing great content? He sounds to me like any older wireman on the jobsite that also teaches at the JATC.

Yes, I think it's a well-designed CSED, particularly if you may be interested in solar. I like the nice gutter for the service entrance cable as well.
thanks For the video! you're my favorite youtuber and you are very helpful, god bless!
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it!
Where is Sparky??????
Great video !!! Thanks for sharing
Great vid. How do u not blow up the meter if you have grid and solar on the same lugs at the same time?
Nice panel

Hi Bill.
At time stamp 1:56 you said 2/0 cable for a 200 amp service. We're you thinking 4/0 cable for 200 amp? Or 2/0 cable for 100 or 150 amps?

Can this be used in lieu of an inside home service panel?
Thank you!
Hi Bill
I have a question about the solar lugs. How or is there a way so that the solar does not back feed into the service grid? What am I missing?
Hi Lou. I wrote the technical expert at Homeline for an answer to your question. I'll let you know when the answer comes in.
Solar inverters are utility interactive. Without a solid utility voltage signal, the inverter shuts down and goes into anti islanding mode, preventing any backfeed.
I'd be coating everything in that gear with CRC Lectra Shield.
Interesting product, thanks!
@SparkyChannel i use a lot of it up here. It seems to work well. I also won't use Noalox brand. I prefer Ilsco or Penn Union
Hey man are you still in sd?
Yes, I sure am.
You can like all my shorts.
well.. if they have solar, I hope they never have a Generac home standby Generator, cause I'll have to separate the loads because of back feed!
Thanks!

@SparkyChannel that and the airborne salt. Bell boxes dissolve, here.

For a breakdown of the actual inner workings or non-workings, as the case is.
Apologies, that last link was the short, not the breakdown. th-cam.com/video/yA5G7kR_xa8/w-d-xo.html this one is correct.
Am I the only one annoyed by sparky channel’s voice/narration?
