    Having previously worked for both restaurants and a cruise line, seeing a great video where you provide honest feedback is refreshing. I think your logic may be a little backwards with the managers offer though. It’s not “you complained so I have to give you something because you complained”. Generally speaking they want to offer another chance so they can show you once again how it SHOULD BE since that wasn’t what you experienced. It’s obviously up to you whether you want to accept that offer or not. But to think “I didn’t complain to get something” isn’t really the issue at hand. He wants you to have a better experience. Simple as that. Now, the remarks about the chef already makes food perfect and we’ve never had a complaint. Yeah they have. That’s total BS and they both know it.

    Hello fellow shipmate,
    We're sailing alongside you on the Baja deck. I must say, I fully agree with your assessment of Rudi's. The steak was quite disappointing, being chewy with an odd flavor. Even the lobster didn't quite hit the mark; it was rather rubbery. Perhaps dining there on the second night at sea heading back east to Ensenada played a role. As for the garlic prawns, they turned out to be bay shrimp, and unfortunately, they were also quite rubbery. Nevertheless, the service was outstanding, the ambiance was delightful, and I found the piazza to be a pleasant experience. Overall, despite these culinary setbacks, this cruise stands out as one of the best I've ever had, thanks to the exceptional crew, ship amenities, entertainment, and the majority of the food offerings being fantastic.

    Our experience at The Catch on the Discovery was amazing, one of the best we've ever had on a cruise. We've booked it for my birthday in June. I hope our experience then will be every bit as good.

    Just ate there yesterday. Was unexpectedly bad. 90% of the food I’ve had on this cruise line across multiple cruises has been great. The crab cake was too wet and lacked seasoning, the calamari was rubbery, prawns were charred and bland, as was the salmon. I was disappointed and surprised how bad it was.

      @@travelingtrishthiel Enchanted Princess. We are in St. Thomas today and was at sea yesterday. I’m no professional food critic, but I do know good food. Service was great, just not the food. And honestly with the exception of the goat cheese mix served with bread, it was just bad all around. The buffet is putting out better food. All other specialty restaurants have been amazing however. Sabatini’s and Crowne Grill have been consistently delicious!

    Just the noise flooding into the place from the piazza would be a huge turnoff for me. Our last specialty dining experience was on the Regal in the steakhouse. Princess has definitely cut back on the quality of the steaks. Honestly, it was pretty bad. And to top it off, we were seated 2 feet away from another couple, on one of the banquettes, who must have listened intently to our conversation while she looked at her cell phone the whole time, and then had the gall to tell us when they were leaving that we ruined their dinner because they didn't like our conversation. We left right after and they were talking to the manager....probably trying to get their meal comped. We are no longer interested in any of the specialty dining to be honest. It is no longer worth the extra charge. Having said that, we haven't been on a ship with 360 yet!

I sailed her in 2022 and we had a nice experience. We only did one specialty there, Sabatini's. It is a shame people are seated so close together. I hope the next time, you have a great experience!

    We were on the cruise after yours, and as they gave everyone OBC for missed ports, we thought why not spend it on specialty dining.
    Steak was realy really good and lobster was well prepared. But it was a hell of a noisy place. Fish soup was okay but a bit "middle of the road"
    Funniest thing was Crêpe Suzette.
    This is a staple French dish I always enjoy in France. Something in the back of my head said "that's odd" but I wasn't sure why, until I was served a lame pancake with orange marmalade.
    Crêpe Suzette has to be flambé a la place. Yesss flambé as in give alcohol on top and set on fire . And what is the one thing that is forbidden on a ship? Exactly. 😂Why on earth do Rudi put a dish on the menu when it is impossible to prepare? (feel free to check Wikipedia for Crêpe Suzette. It has a lovely story for its origin) .
    Wouldn't eat there if I had to pay for it, and if it's a free meal I'd absolutely check the daily pattern to find a time without partymusic at the piazza.

    You raved about the tapenade and goat cheese dish. You raved about the calamari. You raved about the mussels sauce and all of the sauces. You raved about the shrimp. You raved about the lobster. Because you did not like cauliflower mash and the steak which was prepared perfectly needed salt, you are really really disappointed with your meal and would not go back?

      As I noted, the meal was a mixed bag. The service was substandard. The manager's response, unbelievable! How do you mess up a steak? We absolutely will not go back. We dined at 360 two nights prior. That was completely opposite. It was AMAZING!! Watch that video. That's the Princess meal and service we know and love. Another point, overall, our cruise was amazing and I HIGHLY recommend you sail the Discovery Princess!

    Wow! I watched the video and read 37 comments. I think you had some extremely valid points in your review. Overcooked, rubbery, chewy seafood and overcooked steak with no flavor, and tasteless mash cauliflower are absolute thumbs down for anyone. Some of the items you enjoyed and stated thus. I agree that customer service training is needed with the server, but he is following management protocol to "get that dessert order etc". The coffee would have done me in. Those servers get pressured by managers to "beg for a review" etc. Again, poor leadership. Location on the ship is terrible and PRINCESS needs to rethink having a restaurant setting open air to the Piazza . The French restaurant Su Le Mer(?) on some ships suffered the same problem. PRINCESS should consider a REFIT the next time it goes to dry dock and put glass window panes along that edge. Baffle some of the noise. Points to consider for others - ASK for a window seat or a seat AWAY from the edge of the Piazza. I hope you and Michael enjoyed the voyage and I will be watching the videos. :)

    We were on the same cruise and ate at Rudi's six times. Got to ask for table in the back --much less noise. We thought it was one of the best specialty dining restaurants at sea (been to dozens on different cruise lines). Excellent food and waitstaff. Agree with you about 360 (went once--March 29, 7:30) and very fun and enjoyable, but food no better. Ate at Sabatini's 3 times and was solid--Crown Grill not so much...Ate there once and was not impressed.

      Hi Chuck, thanks for watching. We truly think this was a one off night for them. Paul, the food and beverage director came and found me after seeing our vlog. We talked for 45 minutes that night. After hearing all the things that occurred, he agreed that we did not have a good experience. Each thing taken by itself would just be a blip to us. We all have blips. The issue was in putting them all together, we ended up with an overall not great experience. There are some things I take from this. First and foremost, the fact that this was the worst specialty dining we ever had means Princess has done very well by us in that regard. We had several things we enjoyed so it wasn't 100% bad, just the worst dining we had. The rest of the cruise, including 360, our food was fantastic. We skipped Crown Grill this cruise. We loved Sabatini's. Our deluxe balcony dinner was absolutely incredible. (upcoming vlogs) I always say the Royal is my favorite ship, now the Discovery comes in a very close second. Most people, like you, have had amazing experiences at The Catch. The thing I feel bad about is that the very same day I put this vlog out, I also put out the incredible experience we had at 360 vlog. For some reason, this one took off. It makes me sad because I think 360 should be celebrated and that vlog watched a lot. Instead that one is hardly watched and this one had tons of views. I gotta say I absolutely loved the lemon pasta in 360. That was my favorite dish of the night. YUMMY! When is your next adventure?

      Yep, the lemon pasta was the best dish at 360. I'd probably say taste wise the "bee dessert" was the most tasteless--however good presentation. Believe it or not, the seafood and/or veggie pasta at Rudi's was wicked good. I took my daughter on this cruise for a spring break surprise. She goes to Caltech and academics can be pretty stressful. Next cruise is the 23-day European Sojourn on Viking--no specialty dining on that one...

      She loved it! I hate to say it, but her favorite thing was Rudi's--mainly because she loves moules frites, so had three or four portions on each visit with the steak/lobster. Also, Rudi's is about the only restaurant left that does a great cheese plate at the end!

    The drama is ... that when for wow content of your videos you are looking for reasons to spoil opinion of others. We had been two times to Catch on Discovery. And it was absolutely delicious food with top service. I travel with my friend who is foodie, even she was amazed with Catch. It was a memorable experience. There only thing we really hated - loud music.

    Well I finally watched this....first the ambiance is not existent. Putting these expensive restaurants in the buffet or whatever location that is in makes sense for the bottom line of the cruise line but the dining experience? No not good. As for the dinner you actually seemed to like most of it. The steak looked really good but if no taste I get the disappointment. The coffee situation could have been resolved by waiter bring some extra hot water. i think the biggest issue was the waiter..clearly he needs serious training...all of his Thank comments you mentioned I think really took the experience down. We are all different....but I would have gone again...maybe stuck to seafood and my guess is with different server you might have had a much better experience. Clearly they are getting poor ratings for the ambiance and thus his comments. I would have given that and the waiter poor ratings. Thanks for the look at Rudi's.

    Good review but you are 100% incorrect about asking for 10 star/5 star/whatever star reviews. There is a psychology to reviews, and it is a proven fact in every single industry that if the review is not requested by the person that the consumer has a relationship with, the review will be lower. Everyone from your car dealer to your cable company to your cruise ship to your vacation planner to your credit card company asks for you to get a top star review. If they don’t request it then you, as the consumer, does not know that it directly impacts the person you’re working with or speaking to. Also, a little known fact on the surveys is typically any score below a nine or an eight on a 10 scoring system scale is a zero. Giving them all fives to say that it was an average experience is actually like giving a score of zero.

      Hi Kim. Thanks for watching! I appreciate all your comments. I was truly taken by surprise because in all our cruises, that was the first time anyone ever asked for a 10. Having worked in customer service since I was 12, I believe that if you've earned a top score, you'll get a top score. And yes, anything less than a 9 is not good. When we get phenomenal service on a ship, I take a photo of the name badge, email it to myself along with what they did to deserve that 10 star review so when it comes to the survey, I recognize people appropriately. Again, thank you so much!

      That I tried to express in the comment above. They are absolutely lovely couple and I have a pleasure to watch their videos, but definitely there is no adequate knowledge about steak preparation, survey points, coffee service and communication in the restaurant (as given instructions to the waiter, the right way to deliver a complaint to the manager). If you keep pointing with a finger to the face of someone- don’t expect to be treated with 5 star customer service, there is always a place for etiquette. I saw many times when waiting staff and their managers are treated completely without any respect. Let the waiter know how you like your coffee and you will get it. Be respectful with a manager and he will give you the warmest response to your concerns. Before they are employees - they are humans ❤️!

If you watch our vlogs as you say you do, you'll see that we ALWAYS give kudos when deserved. The last thing we want to do is have a less than great experience and then have to vlog that. Paul, the Restaurant Director actually sought me out because he heard about our experience. After hearing everything that happened, he apologized because he said they truly failed with our meal. I much prefer to give rave reviews, such as our 360 vlog that went out the same day. We know how hard the team works and we love celebrating that. If you've watched previous ship vlogs of ours, you'll see that we rarely put out negative vlogs unless the experience has truly not been up to Princess standards. Thanks again.

      ​​@@gabriellamoggi3805 I realize I did not address all your concerns. Prior to retiring, I had 27 years in customer service as a meat cutter, butcher, and manager. I know all about customer service, and how to handle situations when speaking with a manager about complaints. I always approach them the way I liked to be approached, with respect. As for knowing nothing about steak preparation, should the opportunity arise, I absolutely guarantee you would love any steak, beef, veal, or lamb item I would prepare for you. Not knowing my history, you're making assumptions that are 100% incorrect. I am not a trained chef. However, I can prepare a steak with the best of them. That is my area of expertise! So yes, I guess you could call me a steak snob because I know beef. Again, thanks for watching and your reply!

    We had dinner before in Catch. And your review is so nasty! Steak can be changed, coffee is served half cup because I can see milk on the side, and all the speeches of waiters in Princess are always about 10 points. And my husband and I had a wonderful experience with the Catch Manager - Avideo. My steak was overcooked and it was changed right away. We loved it. I am sorry for the waiter who got a chance to serve do negative people! Thanks Princess for amazing waiting staff and their hard work! I am sure you complain wherever you go. And just a friendly advice / learn a little bit about steak culinary philosophy.
