A more lovely Queen I have never seen, and I have lived almost 70 years. Shahbanou dazzled me the first time I saw her on the cover of LIFE magazine. As an artist, and portrait artist, I saw kindness, warmth and genuine comfort radiating from her face, even when wearing 4 pounds of emeralds and diamonds and a silk satin embroidered white gown for walking down the Purple Carpet. I adore the Crown Jewels of Persia. I adore Persian Carpets and know what it takes for the people who make them, but none of that can match the warm smile and dark-eyed beauty of Farah Diba. I am only a little California surfer girl who was raised in Los Angeles in the sixties. Farah is timeless. She is loved.
The Shahbanou proves that grace, poise, elegance, respect for one's husband do not negate a woman's individuality and influence. Yes, she had great wealth, many luxurious homes, beautiful clothes and jewels at her disposal. She also had a husband who respected her talents and heart and the asset she was (and continues to be) to Iranians worldwide. She has faced tragedies no mother should have to face, no wife should have to face. May her remaining years be full of joy. May Iran embrace a government that values all, respects all, without the horror of power-mad religious fanatics. All the good she has done is an inspiration to people everywhere in the world.
