I prefer the 60”. My opinion has long been the 60” decks on the 445/455 machines was probably one of the best cutting decks Deere has ever built. The only challenge the 60” decks have is capacity. They are relatively shallow decks which gives them reduced capacity compared to modern high capacity decks.
I’m not sure what model you are looking for with a 730. To my knowledge the 730 has only been a two cylinder farm tractor from the 1950’s. As for Deere decks they have been slowly evolving. Depending on the era of your tractor and the size of the deck there are some parts commonalities. You can look up parts for your tractor at JD Parts.
Yes a 455 will run a 60” deck just fine. The decks are out there. You just have to keep a look out. Don’t be afraid to have one shipped. I recently did a video on shipping a 60” deck for a 4-5 machine. Wish I had another deck to sell.
If I am thinking what you are thinking, that slotted area holds the bumper for the idler arm. That bumper keeps the deck belt from whipping back and forth.
I have a 318 that won’t drawn fuel. Could it be the line going to the crank case. And if it is how in the world do you get in there and get it off and put a new one on and a clamp.
Not sure on the deck rebuild yet... time will tell as I move forward. Grease, of course, new parts where they are needed, and paint.... highly doubtful!! I just really dislike painting. :)
I got the same and she's an old beast of a tractor. I been doing maintenance for my mom and my dad hadn't kept up the best on his equipment. Have you found any other good sources of vid info for your 445 @Tom Gifford
Complete agree. I’m my experience if a deck has been sitting for a decent amount of time and wasn’t grease the bearing will growl and occasionally it will quiet them down. In this case it did not. It led to a whole series of videos about the bearing replacements. Here is one of the video. Happy to report that 3+ years later the deck still sounds great. th-cam.com/video/rdwBiLDCdvE/w-d-xo.html
Do you prefer the 54 deck to the 60 for mowing?

What is the purpose of the slotted piece just under the idler pulley arm on the right of the gear box in the opening photo?

@@mmrbeef Is there an adjustment for the position of the bolt in the slot?

Loving the maintinence videos! are you going to/ have you already done a complete rebuild of the deck? Paint, grease, new parts etc?

@@mmrbeefwould you have an extra 60" deck for sale for my 455
Mower decks that are 12 11 10 gauge steel are very strong and will last decades
if I remember, if you are taking the pulley off of the gearbox, its left handed thread. I think...
I'm enjoying this 455 series, I have a 445 w/ the same deck! Please show the deck spindle bearing replacement if possible mine has the same issue.
If I end up replacing the bearings I certainly will do a video on them.

How much oil goes in the gearbox? Fill till full or just up to the bottom of the plug when its on its side?
Bottom of the plug is correct for the fill level.
@@mmrbeef Bottom of the plug when it is in the operating position?
Weird how your tension spring isn’t pulling harder with belt off... I would think your pulley would have more force on it in video
grease does not equate to bearing replacement- :0) nice videos but always replace the bearings when they growl like that....
