I love this more long form content from you, I've been super intimidated by blender and I want to use it for exactly this type of work.

Thank you. I hope to do more content like this in the future. Learning Blender is a big undertaking but it's absolutely worth it. 👍

Ive tried many times to get into 3d work with blender and Rhino. Ive enjoyed this tutorial a lot. Everything made sense fpr the most part. Im going to give this another go!

You should try fusion, i find it so much easier to work with if you are just making basic geometries. I started with blender too but definitely prefer fusion now

Hello. Thank you for the detailed demonstration of the process of creating a ring model and the detailed description of this process. I wish your TH-cam channel successful development.
Waiting for a video of the casting process of the resulting model)

Nice process, the sculpting was done, did you join all part, in one object, and make a remesh, or a join Them with Boolean to make the object water tight and avoid overlapping elements ?!
Or you can just keep different elements separately and slice it for printing ?!

    Hi, very nice job 👏🏻
Can’t wait to see the physical version!
Just out of my curiosity: speaking of ring measures, what’s the tolerance you considered for both investment casting (expansion of the plaster during burnout) and final polishing? What percentage is your manufacturing design thicker than product design? I’m looking for some advice about that…heard that 5-10% thicker might be considered a pretty common rule of thumb, but I guess it depends on many parameters to take into account.
BTW, keep up your great work💪
    Greetings from Rome 🇮🇹👋🏻

That's a great question! I've found that my own castings tend to shrink around 2-5% on average. So I scale my designs up in the slicing software to accommodate for that.
Unfortunately, there're so many variables that can cause shrinkage that it's almost impossible to eliminate it entirely. My advice (if you do your own casting) is to do some test castings with your specific setup and equipment on a design that hasn't been scaled up at all and measure how much it shrank to know how much to scale it in the future.
If you're using a casting service, this is hopefully something they have already calculated and are well familiar with.
I'll try to remember to go over the topic in the next video 😁
Thanks for watching and for the support! 🙏👍

When you go from design to finish cast item, what would you say is the shrinkage percent?

So im pretty new to blender but Alt+S isnt allowing me to adjust the width of the shank. Im in edit mode but its doing nothing.

One question: when you change the height of the girgle, why doesn't the total height of the stone change? It should change, right?

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It's a little hard to see because I'm zoomed in but I only had the vertices for the girdle selected. So when I scaled the girdle in the Z axis, the top and bottom of the stone didn't move.
