We didn't know what was coming!

  • From the gorgeous Mon we travel northwards into Zealand, Denmark's largest and most populous island. However, before we get to Copenhagen we made a stop Rødvig, to see Stevns Klint and attempt to find the peregrine falcons - which nests in this area. We also made the dubious call to park right at Mosede Fort - the epicentre of a Danish mid-summer festival!
    ABOUT US:
Hi! We're Andre & Lisa! Full time travellers and nomads since 2018.
This was not an overnight decision. It was a goal we worked towards for 2 decades. We have always prioritised travel as a way to satisfy our most basic curiosity - to depart from regular life into something new, even if only briefly, before returning to ‘normality’. Normality, however, is subjective and when you travel to unfamiliar places, you lose your grounding, your bearings - it challenges everything you consider ‘normal’ about life. Everything is unordinary. Everything is important. Everything requires your attention. You understand that because you have no home, every place can equally be your home. More importantly, time is of the essence.
You can find our blog at www.wewillnomad.com where we post regularly about the destinations we visit along with travel tips and what we spend on travelling.

We were super keen to find somewhere where we could experience a little bit of mid-summer celebrations in Denmark - but we never thought we might end up right in the middle of a festival!

In this video you got VERY close to where I work. I work weekends at Royal Unibrew (the brewery) in Faxe. You also drove right through my home town Køge.
Fun to see Sankt Hans Aften (midsummer night) at Mosede Fort 🔥🧙🧹

The fish are called a "Hornfisk" in Danish, directly translated "horn-fish". It is an expensive fish and very delicate. I think the fisherman offered it to you because it was catched off season and he needed to have maybe 3-4 of them in order to sell it. Normally they pass through Danish waters in large quantities. It have small blue bones and are hard to filet if you do not know how to. You can both cook, fry or smoke it.

Awesome thanks! We looked it up afterwards and perhaps it was best to not try and fillet it. Lisa is not a fan of fish bones! 🐠🤣

@@WeWillNomad Fish bones can be a nuisance but if you know how to filet each fish it are not a problem. Problem are you have to know each fish. The Hornfish meat are a real treat though. The are passing from mid April to mid June and are best caught in sun/mid day fishing after a moving boat just like it was a tuna or marlin. They are, relative to size, big fighters and getting one hooked does not mean getting on in the boat 😉. Referring to your other message. I do not know where you dipped but if it was now the temperature and weather are pretty optimal. If you like art and nature in combination I can recommend Tegners museum (Tegner´s mausoleum and sculptures from his entire work in a unique landscape and building designed by himself before his death) and the pretty famous "Louisiana" situated between Copenhagen and Helsingør I can recommend. Louisiana are the most visited private museum in Scandinavia

A little further north from Fakse Kalkbrud, and on the coast, we both have an old, now open to the public, Fort to be visited very deep below the ground, Stevnsfortet, and Stevns Klint, on which it is able to see a serious black line in the chalk, from the time that the Dinosaurs may have gone extinct from a natural disaster, which gave a long cold and dark winter time.

The water is very unlikely to be acidic. Chalk neutralises acid. If your garden soil is too acidic, you fix is by adding chalk.

Mosede Fort is part of the fortification round Copenhagen, and most likely what kept Denmark out of the First Worldwar! We had invited a German officer up to look at the built, and from his report we could after the War see that he expected it would be too costly to attack and control Copenhagen!

You probably didn't know that. But in the limestone layers on Stevns and on Møn's cliff a black stripe lies between the layers.
11:33 you can clearly see it approximately 1½-2 meters above the surface. It is the scientific proof of the great meteor impact that wiped out most life on earth and gave way to mammals.
