The hardest part about the sentiment of "We lost our muscle, and our healer, and, ... Scanlan, who's only good for dick jokes", is that in episode 6 Scanlan stepped up and saved them all in a moment of personal growth.... and NONE of them were there to see it. And When the Sphinx told them Scanlan saved them, their reaction wasn't "Great Job Scanlan" or "Thank you Buddy", it was "...the Fuck?". It's very much playing toward the theme building this season of Scanlan not feeling a part of the team. Ossysa said no one cared about him, his group doesn't see him outside his role as funny dick joke guy, and he's there craving a connection that he doesn't know how to start. Come to think of it, last season in Scanbo he single handedly took on a goliath and a whole house of minions and burnt the place down and none of them were there to see that either, after they'd all eyerolled him saying he could contribute.
They've done such a good job of setting up his arc. In the campaign, it's so stretched out that it felt a little out of the blue. Where here, I can definitely see where it's leading, and it makes perfect sense.
Edit: I finished typing that right before they made their predictions about Scanlan. 😏

Because he can't seem to stop being a superficial clown in between heroics.
Scanlon undercuts himself every time, and the rest of the party reacts to that since everyone is pitching in in direct fights and Scanlon's battles are mostly out of their sight.
When they are fighting together, he's mostly using bardic inspiration and blocking stuff with his hand spells.
Useful but buffing doesn't LOOK impressive.
Grog's strength didn't come from the sword, the sword just enhanced his strength and abilities and gave him a power rush like never before. Craven Edge essentially cursed him and drained him as the consequence for destroying him. But it wasn't like without the sword he was powerless, remember he only acquired the sword after defeating the Briarwoods and he had all his strength and abilities beforehand. This is also one of the bigger changes from the original campaign since Craven Edge couldn't be destroyed/Wasn't in the campaign, but instead was dealt with in a different way.
Fun fact: Garmelie was voiced by Billy Boyd, Pipin from Lord of the Rings! I always pause when a new character gets introduced because they always get a lot of cool people in the show.

I was already watching you guys' channel for other reactions, but as a critical role fan it's been so amazing to watch non viewers of the stream and your insights on it! I am so glad they changed the show up so both new folk and oldies can enjoy the show. I'm obsessed with it so re-watching/re-living the episodes through you guys is amazing!
Scanlan is such a hidden gem, really. He was made like this 'Liam, what's the most useless class? Bard? Okay, wait, this is a stereotype, oh I'm playing it!' Maybe not exactly like that but it's the gist of it! He's super useful, and obviously hiding behind his own securities. What do you guys think about the characters themselves? To me I love them because they feel like actual people to me, they have feelings, goals, opinions etc. How about you guys?

I got an impression that Craven Edge took from Grog not only the strength it has given to him, but also his natural strength. Poor Grog, it feels awful to be that helpless.
And if my predictions are correct, we will see more of Scanlan being cool and serious. But who knows, they may`ve changed something again :D
I'll just say you are absolutely spot on about all three. Percy in this mode feels so innocent, like we're seeing who he was before the trauma.

The song they sing is a reference to an ongoing meme in their campaigns. It's a reference to the first line of the Vanessa Carleton song "1000 Miles". It started as a little parody of the first couple lines. Now they just do a quick "makimyway". You can see a supercut here. This was a nice palate cleanser after the previous episodes. It was nice to give the characters a bit of time to catch their breath so to speak, and not be on the edge of death like they have for the last few episodes.
I need to see both an art book of Garmelie’s sketches, and even video of the actual artists drawing those sketches, there’s no way they weren’t laughing their asses off drawing them🤣🤣🤣🤣.
And the whole mushroom trip that Vex and Keyleth went through was both hilarious and awesome, and me being a fan of Dragonball Z Abridged I immediately said “I hoped they packed their bags, because their about to *go on a trip*….”. Also loved that they got Cheech Marin as Trinket, though I would’ve added that he was playing the sitar that they always play when you see when someone is tripping.🤣🤣🤣
I wonder how the assigned the task of drawing Garmelie's sketches... There had to have been a few that really wanted that job. At least those who didn't get the job now have new hope with C2 being animated as well. :)

@@thedarkknight2221 I don't want to spoil anything by accident, and I have no clue about what will be included. Let's just say that 1) there exists a fascination with the equivoque 2) someone likes to draw. I'm sure it will be glorious in the serie.
I know this is late but the guys who did the sketches did a commentary about them. Also he designed the tripping based on his own experiences
@@SamuBrownYT That makes sense, it still had some of the really tropey stuff like the kaleidoscope vision, but a lot of the trip actually felt pretty accurate to psilocybin. Which is awesome, cuz it does kind of annoy me when characters in shows trip but it's just like, swirly colors or something.

You got the joke! Garmielle was more of a pervert than Scanlan. So the joke is that at the beginning of the episode Vex's line about Scanlan was that "at least we'll have less dick jokes." The big joke is on her! 🙂
It also ties into ABard’s Lament. I have a feeling that that is where season 3 will end.
The creature at the beginning is a nod to Neverending Story
I mean it's pretty blatant that it's a nod to falkor, it's a "legally distinct" serpentine doggo faced dragon... lol
I think the look on Vex's face when she mocks Scanlan on arrival belies the truth of how she really feels. She puts up a good front, but Vex can't help herself from loving that gnome like the annoying little brother she never had.
Trinket's voice was really funny :)

Grog never lost his muscles, I assume it's leading to him Hulking out when he learns where his strength comes from... bit on the nose, but okay. It's a shame we never get to see the drawing of him with giant eyes, buck teeth and a tiny penis; at least they got Cheech to voice Trinket for the trip scene. Diplomacy was originally a steampunk Iron Man gauntlet, I guess they had to scale it down.
If i remember correctly, its due to 3 levels of exhaustion. you have negatives to everything you do until you get some legitimate rest. Took a few episodes till he was normal again, If i remember correctly.

You're misrepresenting Diplomacy a fair bit. Calling it an "Ironman gauntlet" implies that it was a ranged weapon, which was never the case. It's called "diplomacy" because it's essentially joy buzzer. Those toys that you use to shock a person that shakes your hand.
In the game it only did 3d6 lightning damage with a chance to Stun. If anything, the cartoon made it more powerful.
@xenocore01 It's a reasonable story arc, although I can see the twist that's coming of how he regains it. They're good at dropping hints. It makes better sense for them to be judicious with their deaths. That's something that doesn't translate well into a visual medium.
@@ShadowyFox_86 Yeah. In the campaign, we see the dice rolls. So you have have a death in every episode, and it never loses that tension because any bad roll of the dice can mean a death, even if it never does. But in the show, if it's "they're dead, oh now they're back" every episode, death loses its meaning. There's no dramatic tension. This was a great way to both avoid that issue, and make both Earthbreaker Groon and Craven Edge much more meaningful in his story arc. In the campaign, they were both a bit "well, that happened. Next". No real lasting impact. Hopefully this gives him a lasting impact on his arc.

She used to call him "buddy" back in season 1. Her first used of the word "buddies" was during the "Captain Winky" check and she's called him that ever since. Go look.

What happened to the Daredevil reactions?
The Defenders miniseries takes place between season 2 and 3. Since that is a crossover between 4 different shows, some of which have infamously poor quality, I think they're at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed.
